Meet Bluebelle the Catahoula! Bluebelle has history living with children under 12 years, teenagers, men and women. Bluebelle’s favorite activities in her previous home include running, walks and playing with other dogs. She also enjoys squeaky toys and balls. Bluebelle, like many other dogs, is afraid of fireworks. She finds car rides a little naseauting (literally, sometimes she throws up) so adopters should be mindful of how closely she eats before a car ride and/or work with their veterinarian to help provide Bluebelle with some support to make car rides more comfortable. Bluebelle knows “sit” and “shake”. She has lived with chickens previously and would chase and pin them down if she had access to them. If there are chickens in her next home, they should be securely kept separate from Bluebelle for everyone’s safety. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story

Lola is a sweet dog that loves affection and is highly treat motivated. Lola can be shy and a bit timid at first meeting new people sense her early years were spent in the shelter with dogs instead of a family. Even though she's a bit shy, she tends to warm up fast and is not aggressive with her shyness. Unusual things sometimes startles her since she's never been in a house but her foster has been working hard on showing her every new thing. Lola enjoys playing with other dogs and her toys, plus loves walks since she does have a lot of energy. She is working on her leash manners but does well with corrections and will not tug you off your feet. She is still very much a puppy and working on her basic manners but doing well with crate training. Lola has only met dogs and does awesome. She has met young children through her crate and licks their fingers but she has not met cats. Lola is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and chipped. Lexi is an awesome dog! She is super friendly, and loyal, bonding quickly to her people. She loves to play a game of fetch, and looks to her people to learn, play, engage and have FUN! Lexi does well with her commands such as sit, lay down, take it and drop it. Because she is a high energy dog she would do best in an active household who have experience with large dogs (she weighs ~55+lbs). She is quite food motivated, so having treats on you would be great, she also loves to learn. SHe is a great hiking, jogging or running partner! Lexi resides with a playmate at our Sanctuary and they come out to go on runs with the side-by-side buggy, she LOVES IT! And there is nothing better than a romp at the creek or at least a dip in the trough/pool! Lexi is a playgirl and a tomboy, she loves affection, playing with people and dogs, loves toys, and being an important part of her people's lives! Lexii loves being the center of attention, and so may be easiest as an only dog in the home, but for dog savvy folks, who engage in training and creating boundaries where needed she can co-house. She is currently taking a break at the Milo Sanctuary and living with three other dogs - happily! She has a beautiful golden, brindle coat and is a nice size, lean and athletic, perfect for wide open spaces and running. ADOPTION FEE: $550
