Story
Meet Tontu! He has been in a foster home with his sister Honey learning how to be a good canine citizen! His foster home is pretty quiet and runs a consistent schedule so he has adtapted to the regular bed time and potty routine. He is really good about going outside to go potty. He is very personable and wants to connect to people. He’s a leaner and a cuddle bug who gives a ton of eye contact! He’s doingw ell with practicing sit and come. He listens very attentively. His floppy ears are randomly starting to point in different directions and he is still growing into his paws but a bit clumsy for now. Tontu is in foster with his two littermates and a senior terrier mix (who he is learning boundaries from). Now through July 19th, adoption fees are reduced to $70 thanks to the BISSEL Pet Foundation`s Empty the Shelter event! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Wylie is ready to party, hit the trails, take a stroll on the beach, run a marathon, do your taxes, or ride a roller coaster. Well, maybe not the last two, but he certainly has a ton of potential and a go-getter attitude! Wylie was in our care once as a young puppy, and went to an adoptive home that got him started with some obedience training and leash training. A home with another confident, playful dog would likely be great fit for Wylie to help him gain confidence in new situations adn give him an outlet for his ample energy. Adopters are expected to commit to positive reinforcement training to help Wylie continue to blossom in new situations as well as learn life skills, and a credentialed local trainer is already lined up to help with some free sessions! If you want an active, playful adventuring companion for you and/or an existing canine friend, come get to know Wylie! Wylie`s adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to “Leave No One Behind fund” – designed to adopter’s eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelter’s care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter. The Foundation also provides a voucher worth $200 with a local certified positive reinforcement trainer, included with every dog or puppy adoption. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Story
Meet Alexandra! Alexandra came into the Shelter with her two buds Jane and Suki. Although they came in together, they are looking for adoptive homes separately. Alexandra is the most confident of the group – often coming out of the kennel first to go out for walks. She is loving and eager to soak up pets and love from staff and volunteers. Alexandra seems to be under-socialized with new dogs outside of her sisters. Any resident dogs in the home are required to meet prior to adoption, although Alexandra may be happy to be the only pup at this time.
