Story
Some dogs wag their tails. Some wiggle their whole bodies. Some bounce like happiness is trying to escape through their paws.Whimsy does all of that - and then tops it off with a gentle kiss. It’s his signature move. He’s a healthy, neutered, 1-year-old, 45-pound Catahoula Cattle Dog who seems convinced that humans were put on earth specifically so he can love them. Bring him his food? Kiss. Toss him a toy? Kiss. Accidentally sneeze in the same room? Kiss. He’s an equal-opportunity affection machine. When I first met him, I had to put a collar on - usually a moment when even confident dogs get unsure. Whimsy was nervous, you could see it in his eyes. And what did he do?He leaned forward, stretched out his neck… and kissed me.That’s Whimsy in a nutshell. When he’s unsure, he reaches for connection. When he’s happy, he reaches for connection. And honestly, most moments in between. He loves humans of all ages, enjoys other dogs, and has the bright, eager energy of a young pup who’s ready for walks, hikes, yard adventures, and whatever happy nonsense you’re up for. And after all that? He’ll curl up next to you and attempt to transform himself into a lap dog while continuing his chosen vocation of Professional Kisser.Bring Whimsy home, and you won’t just feel loved. You’ll feel cherished.Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends and holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Meet Cookie Dough! This sweet, playful young boy is full of energy and enthusiasm for life. He loves to run, play, and stay active, so he’s looking for a family that can match his lively spirit and continue working with him on his training as he grows. Cookie Dough would do best in a home without small children, where he can have space to play and learn at his own pace. With love, consistency, and plenty of activity, he’ll make a wonderful and affectionate companion

Story
Loyal is a beautiful 2-year-old Merle Catahoula with a heart as pure as his name. His story is especially touching — he was found abandoned at the future site of the new animal shelter, patiently waiting beside his belongings for the people who never came back. Despite everything, Loyal’s spirit remains unbroken. He’s incredibly affectionate and just wants to be near his person — whether that’s joining you for a car ride, walking by your side, or curling up close for quiet time. He’s great in the car, friendly with other dogs, and always eager to make new friends. Loyal is the kind of dog who will remind you every day what unconditional love looks like. He’s gentle, trusting, and ready to find the forever family who will never leave him behind again. Interested in meeting Loyal? Email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com to learn more or set up a visit.

Story
Meet Celeste – A Gentle, Shy Catahoula Puppy Looking for a Place to Bloom Celeste is a stunning 7–8-month-old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix with soft merle markings and the sweetest, most soulful eyes. Weighing around 40–45 pounds, she’s the perfect medium-size pup — still young, still learning, and full of potential. Celeste is incredibly sweet, gentle, and submissive, but shelter life has been overwhelming for her. This old, loud environment is scary, and she isn’t quite sure what to make of it all. She approaches the world with caution right now, but when she realizes she’s safe, you see her whole body relax into the softest, most trusting sweetness. With kindness, patience, and a calm home, Celeste will blossom into the loving, loyal companion she’s meant to be. She just needs someone willing to show her that the world isn’t as frightening as it feels inside a shelter. Celeste would thrive with: • A quiet or moderately calm home • Gentle people who can help her build confidence • A routine that helps her feel safe • A dog friend who can show her the ropes (optional, but she’d likely love it!) If you’re looking for a beautiful, tender-hearted young dog who just needs reassurance and love to shine, Celeste may be your perfect match.
