Indie is a shy sweetheart! She is nervous in new places and around strangers. However, once you’re lucky enough to earn her trust, she is very affectionate and sweet. She loves gentle strokes on the head and ear rubs. If she trusts you, she will sit and shake for treats. She is a sweet girl who deserves a kind home!

Story
Meet Rocky Road, a very playful and energetic dog who is ready for any adventure you bring his way! He was recently returned to us due to no fault of his own. He is potty trained, does well with other dogs, and people of all ages. Rocky does have some separation anxiety but that just means he loves your company! With consistent training this can be worked on and improved. He needs an active owner who is able to provide him with daily exercise and mental stimulation because his breed is a working dog breed. This is very important and can/will become destructive inside the home due to boredom. If you feel you might be a match please fill out an application to see him!

Story
Beau is a pure bred catahoula leopard hound from a breeder in Tennessee. He’s a little over 1 year old and has just been neutered. He’s fully vaccinated and very healthy. He’s very energetic and playful and has a sweet and silly personality. He loves his family and is very tolerant of our kids. We can put our hands in his mouth, pull his tail and ears, mess with his paws, and he never snaps or growls at us. He has been trained over the last year for gluten detection and is eager to learn new skills. He would do well with any kind of scent work. He’s very high drive and needs an active job or a very large space to run. He is rough with our older dog and doesn’t back down when she tries to put him in his place. Having moved to a much smaller piece of property has shown that we can’t keep up with his needs.

Story
Luna is the kind of dog people cross the room to meet. She is a Catahoula mix, about a year old and roughly 50 pounds, with a gray and white merle coat, a freckled pink nose, and pale blue eyes that photographs do not do justice. She greets everyone with a full body wag and a giant grin like she knows exactly how pretty she is. Luna is young, social, and full of happy energy. She is spayed, microchipped, and already house trained. She is smart and very tuned in to people, the kind of dog who watches your face for whatever is coming next. Being straightforward about her: when Luna gets excited she can get jumpy and mouthy, and at 50 pounds that is worth knowing before you meet her. For that reason she is looking for a home without small children while she works on her manners. We recently took Luna to an adoption event, and she showed us something worth sharing. She arrived at full energy, the way she usually does. Then she settled, and she spent the rest of the day calm and easy with strangers, with no mouthiness at all. What we saw suggests her excitement is mostly a question of having somewhere to put her energy. An adopter who can offer real exercise along with consistent, positive reinforcement has good reason to expect the dog we saw that day. Luna loves other dogs and would be delighted to join a home with a friendly canine sibling to play with. She has not been tested with cats, so we cannot tell you how she would do living with one. If you are ready for a striking, joyful young dog who will turn heads on every walk and light up every room, come meet Luna at Petersburg Animal Care and Control. We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 10am to 3pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability.
