Story
Meet Selena! Possible Breed: Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix DOB: 5/18/24 Selena is a gentle, affectionate young pup who’s ready to find her forever home. She’s a quiet and well-behaved girl who loves to snuggle but also enjoys playtime and daily walks. Selena is very smart and gets along well with other dogs, making her a wonderful companion for both people and pets. Since being rescued from a dangerous situation, Selena has blossomed in her foster home. She loves toys, adores her crate as her safe spot, and has recently discovered the joy of curling up on the couch. When she’s not zooming around the yard, she’ll often stop by to give her foster mom sweet hand kisses — she’s truly a little lovebug. Selena would thrive in a calmer home environment and would do best with no children or with kids over the age of 12. A privacy fence is recommended for all her speedy zoomies! She’ll need a little time to adjust to her new home, but once she feels safe, her loving personality shines through. Selena is seeking a home where she can feel secure and loved — with humans who will give her the patience and kindness she deserves to show what an amazing, devoted girl she truly is. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who will bring warmth and love to your home, Selena is your girl. Story
Urgent Plea for a Foster Home for Mindy Mindy, a sweet and gentle 9-year-old Lab and Hound mix, desperately needs a safe place to land. Her previous family failed her, and she was abandoned, but she still has so much love left to give. A senior dog might not run a marathon alongside you, but she will happily walk by your side. The slower, gentler pace of life settles into their old bones, making every moment shared with them special. Like fine wine, dogs get better with age—their muzzles may be whiter, but their hearts are fuller. Mindy is a 55lb, loving senior girl who enjoys spending time outside, taking walks, and playing with toys. She still has more energy than a typical senior and thrives on attention, treats, and bones. She does well in playgroups with proper introductions and is currently kenneled with other dogs at the shelter. She is crate trained but, like many senior dogs, needs a consistent routine to manage her bladder. She also walks best with a harness. Mindy’s Story: Mindy came from Texas, where humans failed her, leaving her to face an uncertain fate in a shelter. She is still adjusting and needs a gentle hand to help her rebuild her trust. She is also vocal when meeting new dogs, so proper introductions are essential to help her feel confident. Her Situation is Extremely Urgent! Mindy is finishing up her final 10 days of rest from heartworm treatment and will be ready for adoption soon. However, her current foster family is in crisis and can no longer care for her. She must be relocated immediately. We do not have a physical shelter, and our boarding partners are completely full for the next few weeks due to Spring Break. More than that, we are deeply concerned that placing her in boarding will break her spirit. Mindy deserves a warm bed and the comfort of a home in her senior years. We are desperate to find her a foster or forever family right now. Can You Help? While you foster, we provide all necessary supplies and vet care through our local veterinary partners. You provide the love. If you can help by fostering or adopting Mindy, please email us as soon as possible at: adopt@safehavendogsil.org Please help us help her! Mindy deserves a second chance at love and security. Time is of the essence—she needs you now!

Story
Meet Casper—the friendly dog! Male 9-10 months old 42 lbs (larger breed) Good with dogs and cats Meet Casper the friendly dog! This all around good boy is the best of both worlds. He loves to play, but he also loves a good snuggle on the couch while binge watching your favorite shows... hopefully on your lap! He will defintely keep you on your toes with his goofy antics and all of his adorable derpy moments will keep a smile on your face all the time. He loves playing with his foster siblings so hopefully his new home could have a play mate for him! He also does great playing by himself, especially with stuffies and tennis balls- they are no match for him! Casper is fully potty trained. He hasn't had a single accident since arriving from Texas early November! He is still a puppy so he's working on his manners with nipping and jumping. He does good with redirecting with a toy. He is also very treat motivated and a fast learner! He's very gentle when being fed a treat. Casper knows sit, is doing great with leash walking, and is learning "wait" and "leave it" along with other basic commands. He hasn't met any kids yet, but his foster parents are positive he would make a great family pet once his manners improve. A home without super young kids would probably be best for him at this current stage. He has done good with cats with proper introduction. He can be a tad extra but he really just wants to say hello and give them a sniff! He also does great in his crate, but might need a treat to motivate him to get in. His favorite things include: •Snuggle time •Squeaker toys •Tennis balls •Chewy bones •Ice cubes •Meeting new people Casper can't wait to be your loyal companion! Once you meet him, he will captivate you with his charm! He has an abundance of love to give and just hopes for the same in return. Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Meet Chestnut – The Sweetest Little Firecracker! 🐾 6-Month-Old Male • Terrier Mix • Energetic & Loving Hi there – I’m Chestnut! I’m a 6-month-old terrier mix puppy who made a big journey from Texas to find my forever family, and I just know they’re out there waiting for me! My foster family says I’m curious, playful, smart, and oh-so-lovable. I’m always up for backyard zoomies, a good game of tug-of-war, or chasing after a ball (fetch is my favorite!). Once I’ve burned off some energy, I love nothing more than curling up on the couch for snuggles. I adore meeting new people and pups—I’ve never met a stranger! While I don’t live with any kids in my foster home, I’ve done well around small children during visits. I also get along great with other dogs and would love a home with a playful furry friend—but I’d also be totally happy as your one and only sidekick. I’m a smart cookie, too! I already know several commands like “Sit,” “Wait,” “Down,” and “No,” and I’m learning more every day. I get super excited and may jump up to say hello, but that’s just my happy puppy energy—if you give me attention, I settle right down. I’m fully potty trained (yay!) as long as I get frequent outdoor breaks, and I sleep soundly all night in my crate. I’ll even take daytime naps in there, especially if there’s a cozy blanket waiting for me. My foster family absolutely loves me, but they know I deserve a forever home that can give me all the love, playtime, and guidance a smart, energetic pup like me needs. Could that be you? I can’t wait to meet you and start our next adventure together! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
