Fig is a PLAYFUL Lab/Shepherd mix weighing in around 45 pounds at about 1.5 years old! This happy, high-spirited boy is FULL of love and excitement and can’t wait to enjoy life with a family of his own! As a result of his time in the shelter, Fig is reactive towards dogs he doesn't know and needs slow introductions to new dogs! However, once Fig gets to know another dog, he gets along wonderfully with them and LOVES running and playing in the backyard and sharing ropes or squeaky toys with his fur friends! Fig has no food, toy, or water aggression towards people or other dogs but will sometimes “collect” the leftover treats and hoard them for himself—though a simple “no” is all he needs to give the treats back to his friend! He enjoys talking during play time and when he hears outside noises, Fig is sure to speak something- his motto is see something say something! Though he needs slow introductions with other dogs, Fig absolutely LOVES people AND kids! His foster family has a 6 month old grand kiddo who he's great with but he does LOVE giving face kisses so little kiddos beware as you're going to be given a lot of kisses lol! Fig is also good with cats and lives with three! He can be playful with the kitties so if you're looking for a companion for your cat, Fig is definitely a good option!
Fig is a smart boy who knows “sit,” is working on “down” and “stay,” and doesn’t need a crate as he’s trustworthy when left out, aside from occasional curiosity involving garbage or counters (he’s a bit nosey lol)! He’s fully potty trained, sleeps quietly through the night, and enjoys car rides, though he’ll bark at people and dogs he sees outside- again, if he sees something, that boy is saying something! He does well with a prong collar while out and about; without it, he tends to pull because the world is just so exciting but if that's not your jam, you can easily train him to walk on another type of collar! While on walks, Fig is reactive on leash toward other dogs, but with slow introductions, he becomes absolutely amazing with them! Additionally, with some redirection and desensitization training, Fig can be trained to not pay any mind to other dogs - Fig is still young and eager to learn and this is definitely something that can be trained out of him! Speaking of training, this boy is so enthusiastic about people and does jump up when excited and LOVES to lick faces, so continued manners training will help him keep improving! He tolerates baths and rain even though he’s not a fan, but he LOVES the snow and will happily romp around in it!
His ideal home would be active, possibly with kids or another playful dog, and with a family that understands he’s still a baby who's learning and growing! Fig is smart, curious, and treat-motivated (Trader Joe’s liver treats are his favorite!) and with structure and patience, he’ll continue blossoming into an incredible companion! The best part about Fig is that after a day of zooming, exploring, and playing, he’s a TOTAL cuddle bug—if you have a comfy chair, he’ll curl right up with you. If you’re looking for a fun, energetic adventure buddy who will snuggle hard at the end of the day, Fig is your guy!
