Story
Blakey is a small black Chihuahua mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart — once you've earned his trust. He's goofy, affectionate, and absolutely devoted to his person, which makes him a truly wonderful companion for the right home. Blakey loves lap time, leashed walks, and making you laugh with his silly antics. He's a loyal little guy who will happily stick by your side and soak up every moment of your attention. That devotion also means he takes his role as your protector very seriously — he can be vocal and is known to resource guard his bed, so he'll need a patient adopter who understands small dog behavior and can work with him using positive, consistent guidance. Even once Blakey loves you, he'll always be honest about how he's feeling. If something bothers him, he won't hesitate to let you know — through his voice or a warning nip. He communicates clearly and on his own terms, and an adopter who respects those signals and responds with patience rather than force will get the very best out of him. Blakey isn't the type to warm up instantly — he needs time to feel comfortable in a new environment, and that's completely okay. With the right person, he blossoms into the sweet, funny, loving dog he truly is. If you have experience with small dogs and the patience to let him settle in on his own terms, Blakey just might be your new best friend.

Story
Papi is very affectionate and playful. He has medium energy and loves to run around in the backyard. He would do well with another dog due to his playful nature. He likes treats a lot and this motivates his behavior very much. Boiled chicken is his favorite. He loves to snuggle and I believe he would do well with kids. He needs someone to be home a lot as he doesn’t like being all alone. Papi is only 6 months old so there is still time to mold and shape his behavior, so he can become the best version of himself. His birthday is January 22nd 2026.

NAME:  Crayola BREED:  Chihuahua/terrier mix SEX:  male COLOR:  cream AGE:  2 1/2 yrs as of Jan 2026 WEIGHT:  15 lbs Get to know Crayola:   Meet Crayola!  Crayola is a 2 1/2-year-old Chihuahua/Terrier mix weighing 15 pounds, and if there's one thing he wants the world to know, its this: Broken crayons still color. Crayola's journey hasn't been an easy one. He was found as a stray, and its believed he may have been hit by a car at some point in his past. Unfortunately, whatever injury he suffered never received proper treatment, leaving him with some weakness and coordination issues in his back legs. But if you're expecting Crayola to feel sorry for himself, think again. This little guy wakes up every day ready to live life to the fullest. He may move a little differently than other dogs, but he doesn't let that slow him down one bit. Crayola is brave, determined, and always ready for whatever adventure comes next. More than anything, Crayola loves people. Friends, strangers, visitors, volunteers... if you're human, there's a good chance Crayola wants to meet you. He has a sweet personality, a heart full of love, and a tail that seems to have forgotten there's any reason not to wag. A fenced yard with soft grass would be a dream come true for him. He enjoys exploring, sniffing around, and soaking up all the good things life has to offer. Crayola's one challenge is that he can be very reactive toward other dogs. While he's making progress, he currently needs careful management around canine companions and is not a dog that can simply be turned loose with every dog he meets. Because of this, he may do best as an only dog or with an experienced adopter willing to continue working on his behavior. What Crayola lacks in perfect mobility, he more than makes up for in courage. What he lacks in confidence around other dogs, he makes up for in love for people. And what he lacks in luck so far, were hoping to make up for with the perfect forever family. Crayola has already overcome more than most dogs ever will. Now all he needs is a home where he can spend the rest of his life doing what he does best: Loving people and proving that obstacles don't define you. They simply make your story more inspiring. NAME:  Zane BREED:  Chihuahua mix SEX:    male COLOR:  Tri-color AGE:  4 yrs as of April 2026 WEIGHT:   13.5 lbs LOCATED IN:  Arcadia SOME COOL INFORMATION ABOUT ME: Meet Zane!  Zane is a 4-year-old Black and Tan Chihuahua mix weighing 13 pounds, and he's looking for a family that understands that not every dog wears his heart on his sleeve. Zane came to Canine Castaways after being surrendered alongside his friend Kirby when their owner felt they no longer had time for them. While Kirby greets the world like a long-lost friend, Zane takes a different approach. Zane prefers to watch first and decide later. New people, new dogs, and new situations can make him a little nervous. He isn't the type to rush into a friendship. Instead, he likes to take his time, assess the situation, and make sure everything feels safe before letting his guard down. But once Zane decides you're a friend, you'll start to see his playful side emerge. The cautious observer becomes a fun-loving companion who enjoys playtime and spending time with the people he trusts. Because Zane is still settling into rescue and has not yet had the opportunity to move into a foster home, were continuing to learn more about his personality every day. What we do know is that he's healthy, handsome, and deserves a family willing to give him the patience and understanding he needs to build confidence. Some dogs make an impression the moment you meet them. Others take a little longer to tell their story. Zane is one of those dogs, and we have a feeling he's worth getting to know. If you're the kind of person who appreciates earning a dogs trust and watching their personality blossom over time, Zane may be waiting just for you.    If you are interested in adopting please complete our Adoption Application by copying and pasting the following link into your web browser: http://www.caninecastaways.org/adoption-application For a full list of dogs we currently have for adoption use this link:  https://www.caninecastaways.org/adoptable-dogs MEDICAL INFO: The following has been or will be done for this dog... - Basic Exam by Veterinarian - Spayed or Neutered - Heartworm Tested - Placed on heartworm preventive - Basic Bloodwork - Urinalysis - Microchipped - Intestinal Parasite Exam and medication - Vaccinations - Placed on Flea preventive ADOPTION DONATION: $300 This adoption donation helps to cover the vet expenses for this dog including heartworm preventive which is dispensed at the initial vet visit and then goes with the dog at adoption. NAME:  Clover BREED:  Chihuahua mix SEX:    female COLOR:  White AGE:  1 yr as of April 2026 WEIGHT:   8.6 lbs LOCATED IN:  Arcadia SOME COOL INFORMATION ABOUT ME: Meet Clover!  Clover is a 1-year-old Chihuahua weighing just 8 pounds, but this little girl has a heart full of love waiting to be shared with the right person. At first, Clover can be very shy. New people, busy environments, and energetic dogs can feel overwhelming to her. She's the kind of dog who prefers to take things slow and learn that she's safe before letting her true personality shine. The good news? Once Clover trusts you, she's absolutely wonderful. Her favorite volunteers have been spending extra time with her, and little by little, they're watching her confidence grow. The shy girl who once kept her distance is learning that people can be kind, gentle, and trustworthy. And when Clover is happy, you'll know it. She has the ultimate butt wiggles that make everyone smile.  Clover loves to snuggle with the people she trusts and enjoys wandering around the yard with them, simply enjoying their company. She's not looking for nonstop excitement. She's looking for someone who understands that the best friendships sometimes take a little time to build. There isn't a mean bone in Clovers body. She's sweet, gentle, and sensitive. Because wild puppies, energetic dogs, and busy households make her nervous, she would do best in a calm home with patient adopters and no children. Clovers ideal family wont expect her to be brave on day one. They'll give her the time she needs, celebrate the small victories, and discover the incredible little dog waiting beneath that shy exterior.
