Blakey is a small black Chihuahua mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart — once you've earned his trust. He's goofy, affectionate, and absolutely devoted to his person, which makes him a truly wonderful companion for the right home. Blakey loves lap time, leashed walks, and making you laugh with his silly antics. He's a loyal little guy who will happily stick by your side and soak up every moment of your attention. That devotion also means he takes his role as your protector very seriously — he can be vocal and is known to resource guard his bed, so he'll need a patient adopter who understands small dog behavior and can work with him using positive, consistent guidance. Even once Blakey loves you, he'll always be honest about how he's feeling. If something bothers him, he won't hesitate to let you know — through his voice or a warning nip. He communicates clearly and on his own terms, and an adopter who respects those signals and responds with patience rather than force will get the very best out of him. Blakey isn't the type to warm up instantly — he needs time to feel comfortable in a new environment, and that's completely okay. With the right person, he blossoms into the sweet, funny, loving dog he truly is. Story
After my mother's Toy Fox Terrier, Gidget, had passed away due to old age, we soon decided that she needed a companion to keep her company while she was around the house after she had retired as a school-teacher. Upon making that decision, my parents went to a rescue where they found Misty, who is a very sweet and affectionate girl, though her previous circumstances had seemed to make her quite shy. Over time, she's come to be a loving girl, begging for head-pats and belly-pats whenever somebody comes within range of her affection, and enjoys being close to people whether they're reading or watching TV, she just wants to be involved by proximity.
