Story
Meet Cooper — A Sassy Little Guy with a Heart of Gold! Cooper is a middle-aged Chihuahua-type dog with a big personality packed into a little body! He came to us after his family was no longer able to maintain the care needed for him and another dog. Cooper has lived with kids and other dogs and has had a few different homes throughout his life. Unfortunately, he has struggled when his boundaries were not respected and when he was inappropriately punished, which has resulted in a bite history. His new family will need to understand his communication, respect his boundaries, and use positive, reward-based training to help him feel safe and successful. Here at the shelter, Cooper is showing us just how easy it can be to make friends with him! A few tasty hot dogs and a good walk are the way straight to this sassy boy`s heart. ???? Because of his history, Cooper will need to meet any children and dogs who live in the home before adoption to make sure everyone is comfortable together. He would love a family who will focus on building trust, keeping things positive, and giving him appropriate outlets for his energy. With the right approach, Cooper is a fun little guy with plenty of personality to share! Behavior and personality assessment is based on information provided by previous owner(s) and/or observations in a shelter environment and may not accurately reflect the pet’s behavior in your home.

Story
Darling Darcy — 8 Pounds of Pure LoveIf you’ve ever wished for a tiny little companion who would happily go wherever you go, curl up in your arms, sleep beside you at night, and make you feel like the most important person in the world, you need to meet Darcy.Darcy is an 8-year-old, 8-pound long-haired Chihuahua with a beautiful face, a lively little spirit, and a heart that is absolutely overflowing with love. She is the kind of girl who wants to be close to her person and would be perfectly content snuggled in your arms or tucked beside you on the pillow at bedtime. She is affectionate without being boring, though—this little lady still has plenty of life and fun in her!Darcy LOVES going for car rides and thinks she should be included in your adventures whenever possible. She also has a hilarious little protective streak and will happily keep watch over the car while you pop inside to run an errand. She is a tiny dog with a surprisingly important job! ❤️What really makes Darcy happy is having a fenced yard. She didn’t have one in her previous home, and now that she has discovered the joy of safely running and exploring at her foster home, she absolutely loves it. Watching this little girl prance around the yard like a miniature pony, stopping to smell the grass and flowers and enjoy the fresh air, is pretty darn adorable. A securely fenced yard—even a small one—is important for her happiness.Darcy is still working on her house manners and is making progress with her foster family. With consistency, patience, and a person who can give her the attention she needs, we believe she will get there. She is a sweet girl who simply needs someone willing to help her succeed.Darcy had a frightening experience in her past when she was attacked by a large dog, and she remains very afraid of big dogs. She does well with other small dogs, but her forever family will need to make sure she is protected from large dogs.Darcy may be 8 years old, but she certainly hasn’t read the memo about slowing down! She is playful, curious, affectionate, and ready to enjoy the good life she deserves. Give this little girl a soft place to land, a fenced yard to explore, and a person to love, and she will give you something far more valuable in return—her whole heart. If Darcy sounds like the little companion you’ve been missing, please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comSeptember 12, 2026, 2:32 pm

Story
Chihuahuas are some of the most beloved breeds in America today. Their small bodies and tender, loving souls bring the kind of affection that so many people are searching for. They don’t need much space or food, yet they give enormous companionship, loyalty, and joy. These little dogs want to be at the center of their person’s world, creating bonds that last a lifetime and leaving a legacy of love that endures even after they are gone.   Grant’s story is one of resilience and hope. He came from a home with too many dogs and not enough care, ending up in a tiny shelter in Tennessee, frightened and unsure of the world. Despite this uncertain past, Grant has a gentle heart and a sweet, affectionate nature that is shining through more every day.   Grant is a handsome 1-year-old, 15-pound Chihuahua with the most charming white sock “leggings” that make him truly stand out. He’s a tall little boy with a big heart, and though he can be a bit nervous at first, he is making remarkable progress in just two weeks with us. Like a child a little afraid of the dark, Grant simply needs patience, love, and gentle reassurance. Once he feels safe, he will gladly curl up in your lap, soak up attention, and shower you with affection.   He is good with other dogs, though sometimes a little bossy at first—likely a habit from his uncertain past—but he quickly backs down once he feels secure. Grant is mostly housebroken and does well in a home without a crate. He is a climber and clever little adventurer, so confining him isn’t the best idea. He thrives when allowed to move freely, and he won’t tear anything up.   Grant is a small dog with enormous potential to become a loving, devoted companion for the right person. He is ready to blossom in a home that will give him the patience and affection he deserves, one cozy, comforting day at a time.   To make Grant a part of your life, email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com. Please include your city and state.

Story
Meet Marvelous Missy! Somehow, this sweet little love bug found herself in a rural Tennessee shelter.   She has come a long way since her stay in the shelter. When Missy arrived, she was a little butterball who desperately needed to lose a few pounds, likely from eating too much people food. After a couple of months with Miss Peggy, Missy has regained her girlish figure and is now ready to find her forever family.   Missy is 8 years old and now weighs only 10 lbs. She is very proud of her accomplishment and would love a family who will help her maintain her healthy weight. Missy enjoys going for walks, so keeping her in shape should be easy. This little lady will trot happily along, taking in all the sights and sounds. She’ll make an excellent exercise buddy.   Missy never meets a stranger—she adores everyone, including people, other dogs, and even cats. She is a happy-go-lucky girl who will fit in anywhere. If you don’t know your neighbors or are new to a neighborhood, Missy will make sure you meet everyone.   When she’s not out on a jaunt, Missy loves to snuggle up next to you. She is always ready to read a book or watch a movie. You can’t go wrong by adding this sweet girl to your family. To learn more about Missy and the adoption process, please email Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com or text 615-943-7311. An approved application and adoption fee are required. Missy is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.September 12, 2026, 2:32 pm
