Story
Lilac Lila Chihuahua came to us from a kill shelter in Indiana. This is a sassy girl who is fearful with people & good with other dogs. She is workable but would benefit from some basic obedience and confidence building as she is timid initially.  Her approx. birth date is 02/14/24 and she currently weighs 4# full grown. No children for her. She has been vet. checked, spayed, micro chipped, is up to date on routine shots & wormings including rabies, and has been treated with flea & heart worm preventative per our protocol. She is heart worm & tick born illness negative, but ehrlichea positive and on 30 days of doxycycline as a treatment even though she is not symptomatic. Her adoption donation is $500 and needs to be cash, certified check, money order or a debit/credit card. There is a 3% processing fee when using a debit/credit card. We do not ship or transport. Please email for an application if you would like to provide this nice kid with her forever home. ##2458988##

Story
Meet Angel. She is a Chihuahua mix looking for a home, where she may need to be the only dog in the house. In her previous home was not doing well with other dogs. Like many Chihuahuas, they do think they are the most important, and want to be the center of attention. She is indifferent to cats and is easily redirected when she sees them, so she is likely to be ok in a house with cats. She loves humans and is very friendly and eager to greet and play with the volunteers at the shelter. She loves belly rubs! She is crate trained. She loves her pillow in her crate and will voluntarily go into her crate for the night, to nap or just to hang out. So, she would be ok for a working home, because she would do fine being crated, while you are away. She would benefit from some daily activity, like a short walk or some playtime to help her get down to a healthier weight. As is common for middle aged small dogs, she may need some teeth cleaning in the near future, but nothing that is urgent. Come and meet our Angel and see if this little roley poley is right for you. ##2437352##

Story
LEONARDIn Foster HomeDo you have room in your heart for a special-needs dog? We can tell from the way he bobs his head when stressed and circles and spins when he is excited that he has something unique going on in his little head. If we had to guess his breed, we think a terrier mix with maybe some Boston terrier, chihuahua or French bulldog in there. Leonard loves the company of other dogs and would make a great playmate for a dog who enjoys a good game of chase or wrestling. He really needs another dog around in order to be happy. Leonard has come a long way toward being potty trained, given ample opportunities to go outdoors. He also is using potty pads indoors. He has a beautiful shiny blue coat which makes him stand out from the pack. He likes to hang out with the people without having to sit on a lap or be cuddled too much. He seems to be mesmerized by things daily and is always cocking his head in the cutest way. His foster mom works from home and he LOVES that. If you have dreams of him being an obedience champion, you’ll have to let those go. He really is a very simple fella who just wants a good home with a playful dog or two and some people who will be around a lot and let him be who he is. DOB 3/15/22 18 PoundsI'm waiting for a home to call my own. email webmaster@petrefuge.com to learn more about me or fill out an application at https://www.petrefuge.com/adoptPet Refuge was formed in 1978 to help with cats and dogs in need of homes. Meet Pedro!  Warning Cuteness Overload Pedro is a 1-2 year old Chihuahua mix that is 10# of absolute love. This little dude will steal your heart. Picked up as a stray he was terrified in the shelter. So when no owner claimed him we scooped him up. Pedro is an easy going dog that gets along with everyone. That includes dogs of all sizes and cats. Because of his small size older children are best in his new home. Pedro is low maintenance and just wants someone to cuddle with him. Pedro is crate trained and does best when fed separately from other dogs. He just wants all the food. We have really been working on his housetraining and we are 95% there. He wears a bellyband in the house, but mostly it is dry. Pedro is an easy peasy dog that rarely barks and will make a great cuddle buddy. Please apply below to meet Pedro.   Pedro's adoption fee is $200.  He is fully vetted for 1 year, neutered, microchipped, & on monthly preventatives. Applications for adoption are at www.trackingintheshadows.com.  Please live within 1 hour of Elkhart, IN or Cassopolis, MI.  Once approved, we will set up a day/time for you to meet Pedro.  Please be ready to take him home within 1-3 days after application approval. *We do not accept electric/underground fences. All dogs & cats in the home must be spayed/neutered & up to date on core vaccines & preventatives in order for your application to be approved.* ##2429059##
