Story
Caleb is a chihuahua mix who is a little timid at first, but warms up with some time. He is currently in a foster home with other dogs. He is a little timid and scared when meeting new dogs, but with a litlte time adjusts just fine. He is fostered with his friend Sugar. He does love Sugar and follows her around (she is the boss), but they do not have to be adopted together. He is also good with kids. Once he knows you are a friend he LOVES belly rubs. As he settles in to his new foster home, he is getting more confident and is working on mastering going outside consistently. He does very well and is pad trained for inside, but is almost a pro at outside too. As he slowing adjusts to his new surrounding he is getting more confident and playful. he is starting to do zoomies and dances for his dinner. If you are looking for a small, sweet dog that can hang with other dogs and kids, Caleb would be a great match for you. ##2649317##

Story
LEONARDIn Foster HomeDo you have room in your heart for a special-needs dog? We can tell from the way he bobs his head when stressed and circles and spins when he is excited that he has something unique going on in his little head. If we had to guess his breed, we think a terrier mix with maybe some Boston terrier, chihuahua or French bulldog in there. Leonard loves the company of other dogs and would make a great playmate for a dog who enjoys a good game of chase or wrestling. He really needs another dog around in order to be happy. Leonard has come a long way toward being potty trained, given ample opportunities to go outdoors. He also is using potty pads indoors. He has a beautiful shiny blue coat which makes him stand out from the pack. He likes to hang out with the people without having to sit on a lap or be cuddled too much. He seems to be mesmerized by things daily and is always cocking his head in the cutest way. His foster mom works from home and he LOVES that. If you have dreams of him being an obedience champion, you’ll have to let those go. He really is a very simple fella who just wants a good home with a playful dog or two and some people who will be around a lot and let him be who he is. DOB 3/15/22 18 PoundsI'm waiting for a home to call my own. email webmaster@petrefuge.com to learn more about me or fill out an application at https://www.petrefuge.com/adoptPet Refuge was formed in 1978 to help with cats and dogs in need of homes. Story
Chico 10lbs, Male, Chihuahua mix. 10 years old.  Chico came into rescue extremely overweight and a prisoner of his body, he couldn’t navigate stairs, was not able to play and overall was without much joy in his life.  We have taken his weight loss journey very seriously to his dismay and although still plump, he is well on his way to a healthier future.  He is now able to navigate stairs, he plays with toys and other dogs and has displayed so much more excitement for life.   Chico does not do well with cats and should avoid a house with them.  He does not require a fence, but don’t let his little legs and round waist fool you, he’s fast and should rely on leash walking if a fence is not available.  He does have a bit of an escape artist in him which should be noted as well.  This has been witnessed in pens, I can’t say if the same would go for a proper fence.  Chico will crate for a short period of time, although this is not his favorite.  He is left out in his foster home during the day, which has resulted in minimal accidents.  Chico has the potty habits of most small dogs, he knows to go outside, but doesn’t alert if he has to go and is not ashamed to sneak off and potty indoors.  Sticking to a regular schedule with frequent potty breaks, paired with lower expectations would be the best route to take in that regard.   Chico seems to bond with just 1 person in the household,  but will shower his one person with loads of joy, couch snuggles and ankle licking. Chico has very typical chihuahua tendencies and can be grumpy at times.  With time his grouchiness has subsided towards his main person, but still is very apparent with the other members of the household.  He will require patience and space during his initial transition, but is well worth the wait.  To be loved by Chico is a great honor and knowing he doesn’t love easily is a battle worth waging. Once you’ve been selected worthy of his admiration he will follow you everywhere, dance when it’s time for tv, lose his mind with zoomies when you return home and shower you with the love only a fat little chihuahua is capable of.   He would prefer a home where his human is home most often. Chico’s adoption fee is $150.  He is fully vetted for 1 year, neutered, microchipped, & on monthly preventatives. He also just had a dental.  Once approved, we will set up a day/time for you to meet Chico.  Please be ready to take him home within 1-3 days after application approval. *We do not accept electric/underground fences. All dogs & cats in the home must be spayed/neutered & up to date on core vaccines & preventatives in order for your application to be approved.* Please live within 1 hour of Elkhart, IndianaWww.trackingintheshadows.com to apply.  ##2607048##
