Story
Hi, this is Elizabeth, one of Peanut's co-foster moms. The Nut has been with us so long that a couple of us take turns with him. We both love him to pieces! So, why doesn't anyone want to adopt Peanut? Well, he just doesn't make a good first impression! He wanders around looking super cute and cuddly but if a stranger tries to interact with him he growls and shows his ugly side. Unless you have treats! He will gently take treats and then growl after the bribes are gone! We are working hard at socializing him with new people but he is a tough nut to crack! See what I did there? Peanut, tough nut? 😁 If you are as stubborn as he is, you too can join Peanut's tiny social circle. He currently has exactly 4.5 friends and he is satisfied with that! We are trying to teach him that he can be friends with all. Well, except kids... He is not wrong in his assessment, tiny people can be darn scary! Peanut does warm up to a new owner quickly but will still growl and snarl if you are doing something he doesn't like. You know, something simple, like touching him! He may be a cat stuck in a chihuahua's body. Can you imagine how frustrating that must be for the cat!? No wonder he gets grumpy! I have been teaching Peanut that growls get him nowhere. He is exceptionally smart and he understands the concept but he is also massively stubborn and likes to test me! By the way, current score is Peanut 0, Elizabeth 549. So, what does Peanut (aka, Nutter Butters, Peanut Butter Pie, Peanut Butter and Jelly, The Nut) actually like? His favorite thing is going for car rides! He loves them so much that he will get in the car with a stranger, candy or no candy! He also loves eating (not too much please as his knees aren't the best and they don't need the extra weight). He is always ready for his kibble and is learning tricks to earn treats. He knows sit, sit pretty, lay down, crawl, and is learning how to roll over. The Nut loves to be with his person at all times and is happy to go on adventures. He has gone camping and hiking with me. He can't put in huge miles so he does get carried when his little legs get tired. Peanut generally gets along with all other dogs, big and small. He will get annoyed if one tries to sit in his person's lap but he is learning to share. He also has no interest in toys unless another dog is interested and then he grabs it. He's really just plain rude in that regard! He has met some cats and he has interacted quite well with them. Politely sniffing and then ignoring. I am madly in love with this stubborn little turd but no, I cannot keep him! His perfect person(s) needs to be strong-willed and patient. He needs an owner committed to continuing socialization and training to let him be the good dog I know he can be. If you think that is you, please submit an application. Peanut is heartworm-negative, up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, and ready for his new home! His adoption fee is $175.

Story
We are accepting applications for Little Bit through 9/23/23! In the words of Little Bit's foster Mom: Little Bit is a 5-pound, 7-month-old Chihuahua. She is full of life and energy. She is affectionate, smart, fast, athletic and agile. Best of all, she is so very loving and cuddly. She is bright and easily learns commands. She is almost housetrained. She loves playing chase with our other foster and gets along well with our more mature dogs. As her foster parents, we have loved our special time with her. Whoever gets this little girl is getting a real gem and treasure for many years to come. Story
Mija is being fostered in PA Mija is a senior girl that just likes to be left alone. Foster family suspects possible abuse in her past. She has slight vision and flinches when hands go near her but will let you pick her up to take her outside or rub her behind her ears for a minute or two. She then wants to be put down and left alone to nap. She has been with her foster family for a brief time. At first she didn't even want to be touched or held but slowly is learning to trust her foster parents. She is fine with other dogs being in the house but really doesn't want to have anything to do with them - except she will occasionally lay on the same bed as another dog. She is perfect for someone that just wants a companion and has the patience to let her become comfortable. She has started going up to her foster mom for attention so the foster family is confident that with time and patience she will be a lot more affectionate. The foster family is attempting to house break her. She will go to the bathroom outside but will just stand there and wait for someone to take her back inside. Foster mom is also trying to teach her how to use a wee pad but so far has been unsuccessful. It is a work in progress. Do you have room in your home and heart for a little girl that really needs to be loved? BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing.

Story
Hansel is being fostered in PA. My name is Hansel and I am a very good boy. I came all the way from Texas to Pennsylvania and I am now learning what cold weather does to my achy old man bones. I have trouble with my hips and luxating patellas so I walk a little funny. I’m still going to brave any weather to do my thing outside because I am a good boy like that. Sometimes you can even find me running in the yard! I am very laid back and like to snooze the day away or get rubs in my foster mom’s lap. I am not high maintenance at all. I am housebroken, well, mostly, when an old guy has to go sometimes he has to really go. I’m not that good about telling you when I have to go but if you take me out when I wake up from one of my long naps everything should be fine. I am a very slender 8 pounds. I was just neutered so I may gain a little weight but that’s okay because I can use it. I have 13 teeth and even though I can eat crunchy toy breed food I do tend to prefer my food a little softer. Sometimes I like to eat my food all at once but sometimes I like to save a little bit for later. I was found as a stray, and someone brought me to the shelter where BDRA found me. I had a temporary foster mom and dad there and I liked to hang out with my foster dad. I easily adjusted to my new foster mom and dad and all their other pups. I don’t play with toys but if I find a bone laying around, oh boy! Happy day for me! I can see out of one eye but the other one has a mature cataract. I am very quiet, and my foster mom laughed the two times that I barked. She didn’t think I knew how to do it; I reserve it for only when someone is pestering me. I don’t bother any of the pups, I’m more of a keep to myself kind of guy but if I find you in my toasty bed, I might give you a nudge to send you on your way. An old guy needs his heating pad, you know? If I come to live with you, I will be a good companion and not cause any trouble. I just want to live my life being loved. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Martin is being fostered in Chicago. Martin is such an amazing boy! He had cataract surgery a few weeks ago and is no longer blind! He has been taking full advantage of his new sight and is such a curious and confident explorer. He is such an easy-going couch potato who loves to snuggle. He is very devoted to his people and just wants to be wherever you are. His diabetes is currently well-regulated and he is such a perfect gentleman for his daily meds. He has been through so much and is such a survivor. He has the most unique smile, and is hoping you have room in your heart for a goofy boy like him! Meet your new favorite man Martin! Martin is a super sweet, independent, loveable boy! He absolutely adores his people and loves to go on walks as well as snuggle up on the couch. He will follow you wherever you go and is content to be your constant companion. He has the greatest under-bite, and has so much personality! Martin is diabetic and is currently well regulated. He will require insulin therapy for life, and is otherwise healthy. He has complete cataracts, so depending on the light he can still make out some shapes and shadows but is mostly blind. He never lets it slow him down and will confidently navigate new surroundings and can use stairs like a champ. He loves to explore new places and meet new people. He is such a sweetheart and is hoping you have room in your heart for him! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
