Meet Murphy (Bonded with Macy) ❤️ These two distinguished seniors are looking for a soft place to land and a family willing to appreciate the finer things in life: sunshine, snacks, and naps. Murphy, an almost 11yo Chihuahua mix, was originally adopted from our rescue many years ago. Macy, a 12yo Brussels Griffon mix, joined that family later after being rescued from an abusive situation. When their beloved owner suddenly passed away, both dogs were surrendered to a shelter. We were contacted to get Murphy back, as required by our adoption agreement, but there was no chance we were leaving Macy behind. These two are a package deal, and that's exactly how they arrived. Weighing in at about 8 pounds each, these tiny retirees have been through a lot. Losing their mom and adjusting to a shelter and then a new foster home was overwhelming, but they're settling in nicely and figuring out their new routine. They're good eaters, mostly housebroken, travel well in the car, walk reasonably well on leash, tolerate crates without filing formal complaints, and get along with small, submissive dogs and cats. Both are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vet care, and recently had dental work. Between the two of them, they still have a respectable collection of teeth. They are good sleepers and are both pretty quiet unless there is something to actually bark at (sorry Amazon delivery people). Of course, senior dogs come with a few senior-dog quirks. Murphy gets around pretty well, although his back legs aren't quite what they used to be. He enjoys puttering around a fenced yard, soaking up the sunshine, and spending quality time snuggled next to his favorite person. He's generally a sweet little guy, but every now and then his inner grumpy old man makes an appearance. He believes his cuddle spot is prime real estate and isn't afraid to show it. Macy prefers life in the slow lane. She enjoys leisurely strolls around the yard, relaxing, and quietly judging the neighborhood from a comfortable vantage point. She's not as cuddly as Murphy, but she enjoys attention and affection on her own terms. Most of the time she's a lovely little lady, but occasionally she channels her cranky grandma energy. Are they bonded? Yes. We'd love to see them spend their golden years together, enjoying a life filled with comfort, routine, and plenty of love. We're searching for a quiet, patient home where Macy and Murphy can truly relax. Young children and a busy, high-energy environment aren't the best fit for these seasoned pups. While they're getting around fine now, a home with lots of stairs may require some accommodations as they continue their journey through retirement. PLEASE READ THE POST Meet Grapefruit !! This sweet girl is trying so hard to embrace her new life!! She’s been through a lot but still wants to love. She is one of the now 23 dogs we have taken in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water, and no electricity for a very long time. These poor dogs didn’t even know what a ceiling fan or TV were. She’s made a lot of progress so far and is overcoming her fears. Grapefruit is approx. 4 years old. She is a Chihuahua mix best guess. She weighs 12 Pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. She takes some time to trust you but then she is a clingy Velcro dog. She gets upset when you leave her and thinks she should get to hang out with you 24/7. She is learning to give people space but if you want a dog that is glued to you then she is the one. Grapefruit becomes comfortable with women faster than men. She will bark and run from men for a while and then she accepts them. It’s a slow process of building trust with a dog that’s been neglected like this. Things like noises outside and the TV can scare her still. She has done well with other dogs after she sees they are safe. She is not fostered with cats so we do not know how she will do but we suspect she would do fine. She’s seen indoor bunnies at her foster home and doesn’t seem to have a high prey drive at all. She is not fostered with kids but we think she would do well with calmer older kids. She will need kids and adults in the home to be willing to give her space and time to adjust to them and feel safe. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy. Grapefruit had clearly never been on a leash before and was terrified of it at first. She has gotten so much better about it. She walks very well without pulling. She still gets scared of things at times that can make her try to run away so a secure harness or collar is needed. She has done very well on car rides and does not get sick. She hates being away from her people and really struggled with crate training at first. With consistency and firm verbal corrections she has really started to accept it now. She will sometimes bark when put in but then will stop within a few mins and go to sleep. She came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going potty anywhere else. It is taking time to correct that learned behavior but she is starting to figure it out. She does best at going potty outside when there are not as many scary sounds. Things like lawnmowers, trucks etc. can startle her and she won’t go potty. Early morning and late evening when it’s quiet she is doing so well at going outside. The more she builds her confidence outside the more we see her potty out there. She is slowly figuring things out but her new owner will just need to be patient and understanding given her history. Grapefruit had to fight for limited food in her last home and due to this she is allowed to eat separately here. Dogs coming from horrific situations like this may have lasting issues sharing food with other dogs. She is fine with people around her food. She may end up able to eat around other dogs but she may not. It is easy enough to feed her in her crate to allow her to feel safe and secure after what she has been through. She takes treats very gently from people and has not shown us she will be aggressive over food but she does eat very fast. She has a low energy level so far. We do expect when she is more comfortable that her energy level will increase. She seems like she will turn out to be a very fun dog once all the fear is gone. Grapefruit has a lot of potential and we expect her to turn in to an excellent companion. If you are willing to help her learn the rest of her training and give her some time to trust you then you will end up with a great addition to your family. ***Do not apply to adopt one of these hoarding case dogs if you’re not serious about giving them time to adjust. It’s absolutely unfair to expect them to adjust in a day or two. We’ve had 3 adopted and returned within 24 hours of adoption for not being immediately settled and perfect in a completely new place. All returned for things we explained upfront about them. It’s completely unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that from dogs that have been through what they have. The last thing they need is to be shuffled around due to adopters not listening or being serious about their needs*** Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. My parents adopted Chloe about three years ago. She is a very sweet and well behaved dog, but unfortunately my parents have had some health issues and cannot care for her anymore. My husband and I took her in but cannot keep her long term due to partly to my husbands allergies and also because we have younger kids and Chloe has had a hard time adjusting to a house full of noise. She is incredibly well trained. She has never had an accident and knows after just being told once not to go upstairs or downstairs where we have carpet so as to minimize bothering my husbands allergies. She is anxious, especially during thunderstorms. She loves being petted and cuddled, and loves playing with a tennis ball and frisbee outside. Overall, she is a low key, very easy to care for dog. She has been very loved by us, which is why I want to make sure she finds a good home!

Like a child a little afraid of the dark, Grant simply needs patience, love, and gentle reassurance. Once he feels safe, he will gladly curl up in your lap, soak up attention, and shower you with affection.   He is good with other dogs, though sometimes a little bossy at first—likely a habit from his uncertain past—but he quickly backs down once he feels secure. Grant is mostly housebroken and does well in a home without a crate. He is a climber and clever little adventurer, so confining him isn’t the best idea. He thrives when allowed to move freely, and he won’t tear anything up.   Grant is a small dog with enormous potential to become a loving, devoted companion for the right person.   This sweet little guy is Buddy and he is a happy go lucky 7-year,14-pound Chihuahua mix who has been with my a senior couple since he was a puppy. Due to his elderly mother's move to assisted living, this boy needs to be moved to a loving foster or forever home ASAP.   The family children have heavy personal responsibilities and illness they are dealing with and Buddy cannot join either of the homes of the daughters.  They feel backed in a corner to find him a place very soon and Critter Cavalry Rescue is dedicated to helping this innocent little happy guy find a place to share his joyful personality.     Buddy is incredibly loyal and loves being with his people. He has plenty of energy for playtime and would love a fenced yard where he can run and explore, but if you don't have a fenced yard, he also does well going for walks on a leash. He's also perfectly happy curling up beside you for a nap. He is up to date on all vaccinations and is happiest when he's spending time with the people he loves.   Buddy could fit into many different types of homes. He may especially enjoy a quieter home with an older person or couple, but more than anything, he just wants a family who will love him, include him, and make him part of their lives.   This is a heartbreaking decision for his mom, and the only goal is to find Buddy the safe, loving home he deserves. Buddy would do best in a home without cats as he thinks of them as a good game of chase.  While he can get along with other dogs, he tends to do best with a sweet, confident dog who won't be intimidated by his strong personality, as he can sometimes be a bit bossy with other dogs.
