Meet Lemonade !! This cutie came to us with her buddy Sweet Tea (posted separately) They were very scared at the shelter but instantly became the nicest little ladies the moment we got them out. They are thriving in separate foster homes, they were not bonded and they are fine to go to separate homes. Lemonade is a approx 4 year old female. She looks like a chihuahua mix. She weighs 16 Pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, be up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. Lemonade is a chill yet fun girl. Very easy going and well behaved. She keeps us laughing with her antics and man does she LOVE her toys! She has been very good with her training so far. She has done well with potty training. She was perfect on all car rides. She does well with leash walking and is also crate trained but can be vocal at times. Lemonade has done well with all the dogs shes met both big and small. She really doesnt care about other dogs much and is just happy to have a toy to play with. Shes never met cats but would likely do find. Shes met kids and gave them a quick greeting but wasnt super interested in them. She just needs to be with kids old enough to not treat her like a toy. She has a medium energy level and would be great for a senior home or many types of families. She has spunky moments where she likes to jump up for attention and play with toys but nothing too energetic. Shes definitely looking for love and likes to hang out with you. Lemonade is fairly content to play by herself but sometimes gets lonely and comes to find you to demand loving. She talks a lot which is adorable. Her little gremlin noises are definitely her trying to get her demands met lol but overall shes not super loud or needy. She hasnt shown any issues sharing food, treats, or toys with humans or other pets. We do feed her separately in her foster home. She previously ate with Sweet Tea and was fine about it. She takes treats gently. Overall shes a well behaved little lady that loves toys and is easy to have around. We cant wait for her to find her forever home. Vet and home checks required. PLEASE READ THE POST Meet Grapefruit !! This sweet girl is trying so hard to embrace her new life!! She’s been through a lot but still wants to love. She is one of the now 23 dogs we have taken in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water, and no electricity for a very long time. These poor dogs didn’t even know what a ceiling fan or TV were. She’s made a lot of progress so far and is overcoming her fears. Grapefruit is approx. 4 years old. She is a Chihuahua mix best guess. She weighs 12 Pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. She takes some time to trust you but then she is a clingy Velcro dog. She gets upset when you leave her and thinks she should get to hang out with you 24/7. She is learning to give people space but if you want a dog that is glued to you then she is the one. Grapefruit becomes comfortable with women faster than men. She will bark and run from men for a while and then she accepts them. It’s a slow process of building trust with a dog that’s been neglected like this. Things like noises outside and the TV can scare her still. She has done well with other dogs after she sees they are safe. She is not fostered with cats so we do not know how she will do but we suspect she would do fine. She’s seen indoor bunnies at her foster home and doesn’t seem to have a high prey drive at all. She is not fostered with kids but we think she would do well with calmer older kids. She will need kids and adults in the home to be willing to give her space and time to adjust to them and feel safe. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy. Grapefruit had clearly never been on a leash before and was terrified of it at first. She has gotten so much better about it. She walks very well without pulling. She still gets scared of things at times that can make her try to run away so a secure harness or collar is needed. She has done very well on car rides and does not get sick. She hates being away from her people and really struggled with crate training at first. With consistency and firm verbal corrections she has really started to accept it now. She will sometimes bark when put in but then will stop within a few mins and go to sleep. She came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going potty anywhere else. It is taking time to correct that learned behavior but she is starting to figure it out. She does best at going potty outside when there are not as many scary sounds. Things like lawnmowers, trucks etc. can startle her and she won’t go potty. Early morning and late evening when it’s quiet she is doing so well at going outside. The more she builds her confidence outside the more we see her potty out there. She is slowly figuring things out but her new owner will just need to be patient and understanding given her history. Grapefruit had to fight for limited food in her last home and due to this she is allowed to eat separately here. Dogs coming from horrific situations like this may have lasting issues sharing food with other dogs. She is fine with people around her food. She may end up able to eat around other dogs but she may not. It is easy enough to feed her in her crate to allow her to feel safe and secure after what she has been through. She takes treats very gently from people and has not shown us she will be aggressive over food but she does eat very fast. She has a low energy level so far. We do expect when she is more comfortable that her energy level will increase. She seems like she will turn out to be a very fun dog once all the fear is gone. Grapefruit has a lot of potential and we expect her to turn in to an excellent companion. If you are willing to help her learn the rest of her training and give her some time to trust you then you will end up with a great addition to your family. ***Do not apply to adopt one of these hoarding case dogs if you’re not serious about giving them time to adjust. It’s absolutely unfair to expect them to adjust in a day or two. We’ve had 3 adopted and returned within 24 hours of adoption for not being immediately settled and perfect in a completely new place. All returned for things we explained upfront about them. It’s completely unreasonable and unrealistic to expect that from dogs that have been through what they have. The last thing they need is to be shuffled around due to adopters not listening or being serious about their needs*** Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. Grant is a handsome 1-year-old, 15-pound Chihuahua with the most charming white sock “leggings” that make him truly stand out. He’s a tall little boy with a big heart, and though he can be a bit nervous at first, he is making remarkable progress in just two weeks with us. Like a child a little afraid of the dark, Grant simply needs patience, love, and gentle reassurance. Once he feels safe, he will gladly curl up in your lap, soak up attention, and shower you with affection. He is good with other dogs, though sometimes a little bossy at first—likely a habit from his uncertain past—but he quickly backs down once he feels secure. Grant is mostly housebroken and does well in a home without a crate. He is a climber and clever little adventurer, so confining him isn’t the best idea. He thrives when allowed to move freely, and he won’t tear anything up. Grant is a small dog with enormous potential to become a loving, devoted companion for the right person. He is ready to blossom in a home that will give him the patience and affection he deserves, one cozy, comforting day at a time. This sweet little guy is Buddy and he is a happy go lucky 7-year,14-pound Chihuahua mix who has been with my a senior couple since he was a puppy. Due to his elderly mother's move to assisted living, this boy needs to be moved to a loving foster or forever home ASAP. The family children have heavy personal responsibilities and illness they are dealing with and Buddy cannot join either of the homes of the daughters. They feel backed in a corner to find him a place very soon and Critter Cavalry Rescue is dedicated to helping this innocent little happy guy find a place to share his joyful personality. Buddy is incredibly loyal and loves being with his people. He has plenty of energy for playtime and would love a fenced yard where he can run and explore, but if you don't have a fenced yard, he also does well going for walks on a leash. He's also perfectly happy curling up beside you for a nap. He is up to date on all vaccinations and is happiest when he's spending time with the people he loves. Buddy could fit into many different types of homes. He may especially enjoy a quieter home with an older person or couple, but more than anything, he just wants a family who will love him, include him, and make him part of their lives. This is a heartbreaking decision for his mom, and the only goal is to find Buddy the safe, loving home he deserves. Buddy would do best in a home without cats as he thinks of them as a good game of chase. While he can get along with other dogs, he tends to do best with a sweet, confident dog who won't be intimidated by his strong personality, as he can sometimes be a bit bossy with other dogs. Hello! My name is Shelby, and I’m a mini schnauzer-chihuahua mix. My brother Bennie and I were the last two pups in our litter. For a while, it felt like no one wanted us. Our mom was found running down a country road until a kind lady picked her up and went door to door to find our home. Our human mom was overwhelmed and relieved when this kind lady offered to take us in. We were so grateful! She promised to care for our mom and gave us a chance at a better life. At first, we were sad, but as soon as we arrived at our foster home, our spirits lifted. We knew things were looking up when we learned Critter Cavalry would care for us and help us find loving forever homes. I’m the love bug—the one who adores snuggling and cuddling more than anything. I love to play with my brother, but as soon as I start to feel tired, I’m off to find a person to curl up with. Don’t get me wrong—I still crave lots of attention and have plenty of silly antics while playing! I’ll bring a smile to your face because I’m so sweet, you’ll just want to squeeze me. My brother Bennie is the mischievous one—the clown of the bunch. His mission is to make you smile, even when he’s being a little bit naughty.
