Story
Tess is a 7 year old, 8 lb Chihuahua mix with a tender heart and a gentle, submissive nature, especially when meeting new people! Quick Facts: Name: Tess Breed: Chihuahua mix Age: 7 years old Weight: 8 lbs. House-Trained: Working on it! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes (best with small dogs, she is fearful of large dogs) Good with Cats: Not tested, but open to a meet and greet Good with Kids: Not tested, but likely ok with older, calm, respectful kids Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No Dog's Location: Apex, NC Special Notes: Tess is extremely bonded with her sister, Penny and they will need to be adopted together. About Tess’s Breed: Our best guess is that Tess is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are tiny, expressive companion dogs known for their big personalities, deep loyalty, and strong attachment to their favorite humans. They often bond closely with one or two people, enjoying warmth, cuddles, and staying tucked right by their person’s side. While they can be a bit timid or cautious with new people or environments, they flourish with gentle handling, patience, and consistent reassurance. Their ideal home is one that offers calm routines, soft voices, and a slow, respectful pace. Chihuahuas thrive with families who understand small dog sensitivities, provide plenty of lap time, and keep them safe from rough play or large, overwhelming pets. They do especially well in quieter households, with adults or older children who know how to move gently around tiny dogs. What to Love about Tess: Tess is a total sweetheart once she learns to trust. She may crouch down in fear at first, but she’s already improving and learning that humans can be kind and safe. Tess is deeply bonded to her sister, Penny — they are truly inseparable — and must be adopted together. These two sweet girls spend their days following their foster mom around, curling up together on the couch or in their crate, giving kisses, and burrowing under blankets to stay warm. Tess is doing well with her house training and is working hard to fully master it. Tess and Penny are loving, low energy companions who prefer quiet homes and gentle routines. They do well with small dogs but are intimidated by larger ones, often avoiding them entirely. They haven’t met cats yet but would be open to a slow, supervised introduction. Both girls are crate trained and ride well in the car as long as they’re together! Tess enjoys leash walks with Penny right by her side and is gaining confidence every day. Their ideal home would include older, respectful children who understand how to move slowly around timid, tiny dogs. Tess is a total love bug, and with Penny beside her, you’ll get double the sweetness, double the snuggles, and double the joy! Tess’s Tantalizing Highlights: • Bonded with Penny – these Chihuahua sisters must be adopted together • Tess is shy and submissive at first but warms up beautifully with gentle handling • Sweet, affectionate cuddle bugs who love giving kisses and snuggling under blankets • Follow their person everywhere and enjoy being close throughout the day • Great with small dogs but nervous around larger dogs • Crate trained together and comfortable being crated as a pair when you leave the house • Tess is progressing well with house training and working hard to master it • Low energy couch potatoes who enjoy calm routines and gentle environments • Best with older, respectful kids who understand how to move slowly around timid pups Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. Story
Meet Lola — a 4 year old, 10 lb Terrier/Chihuahua mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart! Quick Facts: Name: Lola Breed: Chihuahua/Terrier Mix Age: 4 years old Weight: 10 lbs. House-Trained: Almost there (she just had puppies and is working on it!) Crate-Trained: No (does not like crates) Good with Dogs: Yes (likes select female dogs who match her energy) Good with Cats: Not yet tested Good with Kids: Yes (school-aged kids) Energy Level: High Fence Required: Yes (6 foot privacy fence required) Dog's Location: Bolivia, NC About Lola’s Breed: Our best guess is that Lola is a Chihuahua/Terrier mixed breed. Chihuahua/Terrier mixes are lively, clever, and affectionate little dogs with big personalities. They tend to be energetic, alert, and deeply loyal to their people, often forming strong bonds with their families. Because they’re smart and spirited, they thrive with structure, positive training, and plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Their ideal home is one that offers consistent routines, daily activity, and lots of companionship. They do especially well with someone who’s home often, enjoys interactive play, and can provide guidance to help them channel their energy in healthy ways. With love, patience, and engagement, Chihuahua/Terrier mixes become devoted, fun, and wonderfully expressive companions. What to Love about Lola: Lola is a lively, loyal little companion who loves her people deeply and bonds quickly. She thrives in a home where someone is around during the day, ready to give her the attention, structure, and playtime she craves. Lola has lots of energy and absolutely loves walks, running in the yard (or rather leaping around like a little deer), and chasing balls! A tall, secured, fenced yard is ideal for her zoomies and outdoor fun. Even though she's only 10 lbs, this cutie pie can jump HIGH, so a 6-foot fence is required to keep her safely in her yard. She’s very smart, eager to learn, and would flourish with someone who can continue her training and provide consistent routines. She knows her name, is learning commands, and is a submissive, easygoing playmate with other dogs. She’d enjoy a home with another playful doggie companion (especially one who can tire her out!), but she’d also do great as an only dog with plenty of human interaction and ample playtime. She adores toys, loves to run, and is wonderful on a leash. She loves her chew bones and squeaky toys (in fact, the squeaker - the better!) Lola is great with all people, including kids, and once she connects with her humans, she sticks by their side with endless affection. She adores getting approval and praise from her humans and one of the greatest things in Lola's world are ear scratches! She's working on her potty training (and improving quickly since weaning her puppies!), and does well when you leave the house (as long as she's not crated - the crate makes her anxious), though she can feel a bit anxious when her people go. Lola is ready for a family who’s active, attentive, and excited to help her shine. With love, structure, and plenty of play, this sweet girl will be the most devoted little companion you could ask for! Lola’s Lovely Highlights: • 4 year old, 10 lb Terrier/Chihuahua mix with a big personality and tons of energy • Thrives in a home where someone is around during the day to give her attention and structure • Loves walks, running, and chasing balls, especially in a fenced yard • Very smart and eager to learn; benefits from continued training and routine • Submissive, easygoing playmate who does well with older or similarly calm dogs • Would also thrive with another playful doggie sibling or as a solo dog with plenty of playtime and human interaction • Great with all people, including kids, and bonds quickly with her family • Affectionate, loyal, and happiest right by her human’s side • Almost totally potty trained! • Full of playful energy and ready for an active family who loves to go, go, go Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/.
