These breeds are known for forming strong bonds with their people while still enjoying interactive play and daily activity. With continued structure and guidance, this mix makes a loving and engaging companion. Luffy’s Story & Personality: Luffy (also lovingly called Teddy) is a sweet, snuggly boy who brings joy wherever he goes. He has a medium energy level — playful and happy when it’s time to engage, but perfectly content to relax and cuddle beside you. He is almost completely housebroken and will also use pee pads, which is a wonderful bonus for continued training. While his crate training status is unknown, he should be monitored when left alone until he fully matures out of the puppy stage. Luffy walks great on a leash and does not require a fenced yard, making him a good fit for a variety of living situations. He has a submissive play style and gets along very well with adults, kids, and other dogs. While he has not been cat tested, his gentle and easygoing nature suggests he would likely adjust well with proper introductions. One of the most charming things about Luffy is the way he sleeps — often in the funniest and cutest positions imaginable. He truly is a sweet, playful, easygoing little companion. Luffy’s Ideal Home: Family ready to continue positive puppy guidance Home that can monitor him while he finishes maturing Someone who enjoys both playtime and snuggle time Household looking for a friendly, adaptable small dog Ready for Sweet Snuggles and Silly Sleeping Positions? Luffy (AKA Teddy) is the kind of puppy who brings smiles, cuddles, and playful joy into everyday life. Story
Meet PoppyLeigh — a 9 month old, 12 lb Chihuahua with three legs and a brave little heart. Quick Facts: Name: PoppyLeigh Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 9 months old Weight: 12 lbs. House-Trained: Almost! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not yet tested Good with Kids: No Energy Level: Medium to high, very playful Fence Required: Yes, this is a must! Special Considerations: Sweet Poppy Leigh came to us from a very rough situation where she was extremely under-socialized. She is waiting patiently for an extra special adopter who will truly give her the adequate time and patience to come out of her shell and shine! Poppy Leigh is skittish and timid when first meeting people and because of this, she will need more of a chance than the typical one or several "meet and greets" allow. In her foster home, it took Poppy Leigh around 4-6 weeks to feel comfortable enough to let her guard down and her adorable personality to emerge - and trust us, she was worth the wait! Poppy Leigh is just asking for a chance - she needs calm, patience, extra kindness, and extra time for her to learn that she is safe and loved. About PoppyLeigh’s Breed: Our best guess is that PoppyLeigh is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are bold, confident and loyal. They are affectionate with their people but can be wary of strangers but warm up quickly. They are intelligent and trainable, though they may be a little stubborn at times, but they keep it interesting! They are also known to be vocal and love to “chit chat”! What to Love about PoppyLeigh: PoppyLeigh is a happy, playful, energetic puppy who loves to explore and be near her humans. She is almost fully potty trained, uses pee pads, and is crate trained — she even runs into her crate for treats and sleeps quietly through the night. Because she’s still learning about leashes and can be timid in new situations, a fenced in yard is required so she can safely build confidence at her own pace. PoppyLeigh is shy when meeting new people, but with patience and gentle handling, she will eventually warm up. Her person needs to be very patient and calm, giving her as much time as she needs to fully open up and trust. She enjoys the company of other dogs, and would love a canine friend to play with. She hasn’t met cats yet, but her nature suggests she’d likely be fine. PoppyLeigh had a growth plate that didn't fully close in one leg and had surgery to have one of her legs removed, but that doesn't affect her quality of life or slow her down one bit! She is faster and gets around just like every other dog! PoppyLeigh’s Highlights: • 8 month old, 6 lb Chihuahua with a stable orthopedic difference that doesn’t affect her comfort or happiness • Has three legs - but gets around better than most dogs with 41! • Almost fully potty trained, uses pee pads, and crate trained (sleeps quietly all night!) • Fence required — still learning about leashes and feels safest exploring freely • Timid at first but warms up with gentle, patient introductions, so she will need someone who can give her time to open up • Comfortable around other dogs • Medium to high puppy energy and loves to play • Very smart, trainable, and eager to please • Loves being near her humans and would enjoy a doggie friend for company Smart, loving, trainable, and full of joy — PoppyLeigh is ready to bring her unique charm and endless affection to the forever family who will adore her just as she is! Story
Meet Baby — a 9 year old, 4 lb Chihuahua mix with a heart as soft as his tiny little snuggles. Quick Facts: Name: Baby Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 9 years old Weight: 4 lbs. House-Trained: Working on it! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not yet tested but would likely do well Good with Kids: Yes! Energy Level: Low (cuddly couch potato) Fence Required: No Special Needs: Baby has a collapsing trachea and will need to be monitored regularly for the rest of his life. He is currently on Stanozolol 0.5 mg capsules which is a compounded anabolic steroid and will need this medication for the rest of his life. He does extremely well when on this medicated regime and doesn't let his health get him down! The medication costs between $68-$80 per month. The rescue is monitoring Baby and if he has any breathing changes or coughing we will reevaluate his medication and additional steroids may be introduced. About Baby’s Breed: Our best guess is that Baby is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are tiny dogs with big, confident personalities. They’re known for being spirited, loyal, and deeply attached to their people, often forming strong one on one bonds. Despite their small size, they’re bold, alert, and full of character, with an affectionate nature that makes them wonderful companion dogs. An ideal home for a Chihuahua is one that offers gentle handling, companionship, and a calm environment. Because they bond closely and can be sensitive, they thrive with adults or families who understand their strong willed, expressive nature and can provide consistent, positive training. They love being close to their person, enjoy short walks, and do well in homes where they can feel safe, loved, and included. What to Love about Baby: Baby is the definition of a lap dog. He wants nothing more than to be held, carried, doted on, and kept close to his person/people. He’s gentle, sweet, and absolutely adores being “babied” by the kids in his foster home. He gets along beautifully with other dogs, and while he hasn’t met cats yet, his calm, easygoing nature suggests he’d do just fine. This little guy is low energy and happiest living the leisure life — napping, cuddling, and going on short, easy walks. He’s working on his potty training and uses pee pads indoors. He can be crated, but it makes him sad to be alone, so he’d thrive with someone who is home most of the time or loves taking their pup everywhere. He rides around in a sling like a pro and is the perfect “purse dog” for someone with a relaxed lifestyle! Baby isn’t a barker, doesn’t demand much, and simply wants love, closeness, and security. He’s truly a sweetheart — soft natured, affectionate, and eager to bond deeply with his person. Baby’s Highlights: • 9 year old, 4 lb Chihuahua mix who loves to be held, carried, and doted on • Low energy cuddle bug who enjoys short walks but prefers naps and snuggles • Great with kids and all dogs; gentle, friendly, and easygoing • Working on potty training, uses pee pads, and can be crated (though he prefers being with his person) • Ideal for someone home most of the time or who loves taking their tiny companion everywhere If you’re looking for an easy, loving companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Baby is your boy! Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/.
