Story
* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, October 24th from 12PM – 3PM (unless adopted prior to the event).  3910 Middlefield Road All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption Fee: $650 There are some Chows who walk into a room and immediately demand to know who is in charge. And then there is Orange Chicken, who walked into rescue, took a few days to decide that this whole “people and houses” thing might actually be okay, and then basically said: “Ohhhh. THIS is the good life!” Orange Chicken is an 11-12 month old, 35-pound female Chow Chow who came to us from a breeder situation. She is a beautiful girl with a youthful, spunky personality that has been absolutely delightful to watch emerge. When Orange Chicken first arrived, she was very shut down and understandably unsure of her new surroundings. For the first couple of days, she mostly stayed tucked away in her kennel, quietly taking everything in. But this girl didn't stay there for long. Day by day, she began to realize that she was safe, that her new people were kind, and that there were some very interesting dogs around to show her the ropes. And once Orange Chicken decided she was ready to participate in life? HELLO, ORANGE CHICKEN! Her personality started popping out everywhere. She loves to frolic around the yard, explore her surroundings, and follow the resident dogs from room to room. In fact, her foster's senior dog has basically become her personal tour guide, emotional-support Chow buddy, and GPS system. If he goes somewhere, Orange Chicken wants to know where. If he disappears, she goes looking for him. Apparently, Orange Chicken has decided that wherever he is must be where the party is. She absolutely loves other dogs. Her foster family says watching her with their dogs is one of the sweetest things about her. Even when the little 7-pound resident dog wasn't quite sure what to make of this much larger fluffy creature, Orange Chicken was wonderfully gentle and simply went off to find something else to do. Which is pretty impressive when you're a 35-pound Chow and your tiny roommate is giving you the canine equivalent of: “Excuse me. You are TOO BIG.” Orange Chicken's response? “Okay! I'll go find my other dog.” She's playful and youthful without being wild, and she has a wonderful curiosity about the world. Watching her transform from that initially shut-down girl into a happy, frolicking, curious Chow has been incredibly rewarding for her foster family. She also does beautifully with affection once she is comfortable. She may not immediately throw herself into someone's lap, but she has learned that human hands are pretty nice and happily allows her foster family to carry her, pet her, hug her, and show her affection. And that is what makes Orange Chicken so special. She's a girl who is learning how wonderful life can be. She is already making huge strides, and we think the right family is going to watch her confidence continue to blossom. She would especially love a home with another friendly dog who can be her buddy and help her feel comfortable as she continues experiencing all the things she missed out on earlier in life. She has already mastered some very important skills, including going in and out of the house, following her dog friends around, and being comfortable in her crate. She hasn't even gotten to the really fun part yet. The world is still new to Orange Chicken. She hasn't discovered everything there is to discover. She hasn't perfected the art of being spoiled. She hasn't yet learned that there are people out there whose entire purpose in life is to tell a beautiful Chow how pretty she is. But she's getting there. And when she starts trotting around the yard with that happy little Chow expression, following her dog friends and exploring her world, you can see it: Orange Chicken is happy. She is sweet, gentle, curious, youthful, and wonderfully spunky. She needs a family who will give her time to continue building confidence and who understands that a Chow who has had a big life change may need a little patience while she figures everything out. Give her that patience, give her a canine companion if you can, give her a secure yard to explore, and most importantly, give her love. We have a feeling Orange Chicken is going to give you a whole lot back. Because this girl has gone from hiding in the back of her kennel to frolicking through the yard like she owns the place. And honestly? We think she's finally ready for her forever home—and she's bringing the Orange Chicken with her. October 18, 2026, 12:58 pm

Add that gorgeous fluff, and you’ve got a very special order!   Sweet Greetings & Growing Friendships   Crab has formed a lovely bond with her foster family, and her greetings are a highlight of their day. When her favorite people arrive, her whole body gets in on the celebration—because why wag just your tail when you can wiggle everything?   Watching her personality shine has been such a joy. She’s an observant, independent girl who takes a little time to get acquainted, but once she feels comfortable, her happy, affectionate side comes through. She enjoys being near her people, following them from place to place, and sharing the simple pleasures of everyday life.   Walks Are Always on the Menu   If Crab were in charge of the calendar, every day would have “go for a walk” written on it. Probably twice. She watches closely when her people come home or head outside in the morning, ready to find out whether a stroll is on the agenda.   Crab loves exploring at an easy pace, stopping for all the interesting smells along the way. She makes an excellent companion for someone who enjoys a leisurely outing with plenty of time to appreciate the neighborhood. For Crab, the sniff stops are part of the attraction!   A Playful Side & Doggy Pals   Crab shares her foster home with two smaller, middle-aged male dogs and is doing wonderfully with them. She has learned to play with her roommates, and those friendships have helped bring out her fun-loving side.   Beneath that dignified Chow exterior is a girl who enjoys a little canine company and a chance to let loose. Her foster family has loved seeing her become more comfortable, confident, and playful.   An Expert in Taking It Easy   Crab knows how to enjoy a quiet afternoon. She might explore the yard, find a comfortable place to lounge, or keep her people company as they go about their day. She’s generally quiet and doesn’t bark much, making her a lovely presence around the house.   Her energy level is mellow, with a happy balance of walks, a little play, and plenty of relaxation. If you appreciate a dog who can enjoy an outing and then settle in for a peaceful afternoon, Crab has that routine down.   Fine Dining, Please   Crab takes her snack selection seriously. Real beef, duck, and chicken jerky earn her enthusiastic approval. Other offerings may require further review by management.   Her discerning taste buds are part of her charm—and discovering her favorite treats is a delicious way to build a friendship. She’s happy to help with quality control!   Her Recipe for a Happy Home   Crab would thrive with adopters who enjoy a calm companion and appreciate her independent spirit. Give her a little time to settle in, gentle encouragement, and opportunities to share walks and everyday adventures, and you’ll get to know the sweet, joyful girl her foster family adores.   She brings so much to the table: happy greetings, emerging playfulness, quiet companionship, and an impressive commitment to both sniffing and lounging.   Ready to add a little Crab Rangoon to your life? This fluffy favorite is serving up friendship, full-body wiggles, and five-star company—and she’s ready to find her person. October 18, 2026, 12:58 pm

This one-eyed beauty is discovering how good life can be, one backyard adventure at a time. A Girl with Her Own Pace When Broccoli Beef first arrived in her foster home, she kept her distance and quietly watched everything around her. She wasn’t interested in food, toys, or treats. As she’s grown more comfortable, her personality has begun to shine: she now picks up plush toys and trots around the yard with them, cautiously accepts treats from a hand, and has become a devoted fan of cheese. Broccoli Beef is independent and doesn’t demand attention. She may choose to sit nearby, though, and if you offer a scratch behind her ear, she’ll lean in to let you know you’ve found the spot. Watching her trust grow has been one of the sweetest parts of getting to know her. Her Kind of Day Broccoli Beef’s favorite place is the backyard. She prances through it with the wind in her fur, chases squirrels and birds, then finds a shady spot for a well-earned nap. Inside, she’s a relaxed lounger who enjoys her crate and occasionally ventures out to explore the house. On weekdays, she heads into the yard around 6:30 a.m., has breakfast, and settles into her crate while her fosters are at work. They return around 4 p.m. for a mile walk and backyard time. She eats dinner around 6–7 p.m., takes one last potty break around 8:30, and sleeps through the night in her crate. She also does well with longer walks on weekends. The Things She’s Learning Broccoli Beef is fully crate trained and mostly housetrained. She does best with prompt access to the backyard, since she hasn’t been peeing or pooping on walks. Fear can also cause accidents, particularly during car rides. Walks are still a learning experience. She may start out with a burst of zoomies, then settle into a sniff-filled stroll after a couple of blocks. She needs a short leash and an attentive person to guide her safely, as she may wander toward the street. People passing too close can startle her, though she generally walks past other dogs without barking. She rarely barks, doesn’t chew or dig, and has been good with visitors. She does occasionally have an opinion about the television, but settles when someone sits near her crate. Her Ideal Home Broccoli Beef would love a home with a secure backyard where she can enjoy her daily trots and shady naps. She’ll thrive with patient people who let her build trust at her own pace and respect her space.  Broccoli Beef doesn’t need her people to rush her. Give her room to explore, a plush toy to carry, and perhaps a little cheese, and you’ll get to see that wonderful smile appear more and more often. October 18, 2026, 12:58 pm

Story
Meet Mufasa! This Majestic Beast is a BIG fuzzy boy. He came to us full of matts so deep he didnt like being pet. Now that he is all shaved down and can feel his skin he LOVES scratches. Chin and booty scratches are his absolute favorite. Mufasa is a Chow mix possibly purebred. IYKYK chows require a special kind of person to be their owners. Here is the low down. He has been great with dogs his size and over. Likely ok with small dogs but have not fully tested it (will do in the next few days). He thinks cats, birds and squirels are yummy snacks and he has to have them all( if he sees them.) So no pocket pets or kitties in the home. He is crate trained and will go in willingly for a special treat. He can hold his eliminations very well. He will whine when he needs to potty but currently is walked 3x a day. He loves him some canned wet food and likely he was fed human food since he will beg when he smells something tasty you are cooking.  He loves to sniff around on his walks and will mark new spots along his path when he is unfamiliar with the route. Take it like his trail of breadcrumbs. He prefers to poop in the same spot everytime so be sure its an acceptable spot for him to go because you will be frequently visiting it daily. He usually poops once a day and pees 2 to 3x a day. He gets fed once a day in the morning and has multiple treats throughout the day along with a chew that lasts him a few days.  When interacting with new doggies he has to smell their butt. He prefers calm dogs who are not in his face. We have not seen a playful side to him just yet but he is definitely showing his more loving side now that we can give him big scratches. Chows are known to be aloof and not eager to please. A Chow Chow thrives on a "quiet presence". They prefer to show affection by simply being in the same room, following you around the house, or offering a gentle nudge, rather than jumpy greetings or forced cuddles. Summary: about 3 years old male neutered must have chow experience no kids under 10 years no cats or pocket pets back yard potty breaks or strong armed leash walks fostered with dogs his size and up crate trained potty trained will require regular grooming For more photos and videos please see our website www.hdbnqrescue.org/bitches youtube page: https://www.youtube.com/@HDBnQRescue ##2852630##
