This 1 year old girl is ready for fun! She is a spunky little lady weighing in at about 36 pounds. We recently did her DNA and were surprised to find out she was almost half Chow Chow! She is very treat oriented and learning her manners, and loves to be with people! A meet and greet would be required for any other dogs in the house. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Bolero was living living in a warm and loving home with cats and dog siblings. He began to feel great and developed a new found energy of joy. His mom had physical restrictions and Bolero was not the "chill" dog she adopted. Bolero experienced safety, trust, confidence, and joy. Bolero was originally from a local Animal Control and was found tied to their building with food and water. He's well mannered, soulful, friendly with all, and loves adventures!!!

Meet Blizzard | Apply Here Blizzard is the floofiest and smallest Chow Chow and we can not get enough of him. After seeing this boy’s photo on the @NYCACC New Hope Only list - for not adjusting well to the shelter - we knew we had to step in. He was originally an owner surrender, by no fault of his own, and definitely lives up to the Chow personality. He’s a mere 30lbs and just about 2 years old!Vocal and opinionated is the best we can describe this guy when he first meets you. Just as any Chow, he’s full of silly noises and animated gestures. It’s all fun and games though as he’s a total cuddle bug and wants nothing more than to be loved on. He’s soaring with his crate and potty training and has been picking up on foundational training quite well! Despite his derpy behavior he’s proving to be a smart dude.You’ll definitely want to apply early for this guy so you don’t miss your chance! SIMBA IS IN HIS FOSTER HOME IN MEMPHIS, TN, AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO CT ONCE ADOPTED!    Simba is shy at first, but warms up.  That is classic chow chow behavior. His lovely reddish coat is more labrador like.  Known for their loyal nature, chows may not be the life of the party, but they love movie night with their family! He is friendly to other low key dogs. When he met a younger small dog, his body language relaxed completely and his tail went to wagging.   He is house trained, crate trained, walks well on lead, and loves a car ride. He is treat motivated and a quick learner. He is wary of strangers (to him) that approach the fenced yard, which is pretty standard for the chow breed. They are known to be protective of their family.  Simba's best home will have a secure fence and medium activity level, where he can take walks with his family or hang out on the couch. A previous history of excellent vet care for current or previous pets is required. We have not kid tested Simba, so we would not place in a home where there is a lot of activity without additional assessment.  If you love the chow breed without the chow fluff, Simba will be a great companion. He is fully vetted. Vetting includes spay/neuter, microchip, rabies and all puppy vaccinations. His adoption fee of $600 includes the transport to CT.
