* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 11th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.   All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $800   Meet Jambalaya!   Jambalaya is the kind of dog who makes every day a little brighter. This adorable 1-2 year old Cockapoo weighs just 16 pounds, has a soft, non-shedding coat, and somehow manages to be playful, cuddly, independent, and endlessly entertaining all at once. She came to our rescue as an owner surrender through no fault of her own, and she's more than ready to find the family that will appreciate her joyful spirit and hilarious personality.   Life is One Big Adventure   Jambalaya greets every morning ready for fun. After heading out for a nice walk, she's off to patrol the yard, where she happily alternates between zooming around, sniffing every interesting smell she can find, and running back to her people for a quick cuddle before taking off again.   Throughout the day, she happily bounces between the backyard and the house, playing with her doggy brother, chewing on her favorite toys, checking in for hugs and kisses, and exploring every corner of her world. After a morning full of adventures, she's content to relax in her pen for a nap before waking up ready to do it all over again.   Jambalaya has mastered the art of balancing playtime with downtime, making her an easy and enjoyable companion to have around.   A Happy Girl with a Silly Sense of Humor   Jambalaya has a wonderful personality that's impossible not to love. She's affectionate without being clingy, playful without being overwhelming, and confident enough to entertain herself when her family is busy.   She absolutely loves people and is always happy to hand out kisses before running off for another game.   She also has one very important hobby...   Stealing footwear.   If a slipper mysteriously disappears, chances are Jambalaya has claimed it as her newest prized possession. Her foster family still laughs watching this tiny 16-pound girl proudly parade around carrying a slipper that's nearly half her size. Socks are another favorite treasure, especially if she can sneak one out of the laundry hamper. As long as tempting shoes and socks are put away and she has plenty of appropriate chew toys, she's perfectly content.   Playtime is Her Favorite Time   Jambalaya is happiest when she's playing. Whether she's chasing her doggy brother around the yard, tossing toys into the air, or inventing a game called 'Catch the Pant Leg,' she approaches life with pure joy.   Her signature move is quietly sneaking up behind you to gently grab the bottom of your pant leg or the back of your shoe before inviting you into a game of chase. More than once, her foster family has looked down only to discover Jambalaya happily hanging onto a pant leg without anyone noticing. It's impossible not to laugh.   She has the perfect amount of energy—always ready for fun when you are, but equally happy to relax while you work or tackle chores around the house.   Friends Everywhere   Jambalaya loves everyone she's met, both human and canine. She has lived with a larger puppy and the two spend hours chasing each other around the yard and stealing each other's toys. She's friendly with dogs on and off leash and enjoys meeting new people wherever she goes.   She walks nicely on leash, occasionally weaving back and forth as she explores the world, but she's polite and easy to handle.   Smart, Sweet, and Well-Mannered   Jambalaya is potty trained, has a reliable bathroom routine, and is comfortable relaxing in both her crate and pen.   She does enjoy announcing visitors or barking dogs, but she's simply letting everyone know something exciting is happening. Once her people acknowledge it, she's quick to settle back down.   Like many young dogs, she loves to chew, so having plenty of durable chew toys—and keeping shoes and socks picked up—will help keep everyone happy.   Her Perfect Home   Jambalaya would thrive with a family that enjoys including their dog in everyday life. She'd love a home with people who will play with her, take her on walks, and appreciate her goofy sense of humor. A securely fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus where she can run, sniff, and burn off her playful energy.   She's social enough for a busy household, independent enough to entertain herself, and affectionate enough to remind you every day just how loved you are.   Why You'll Love Jambalaya   Jambalaya is that rare dog who seems to have the perfect balance of everything. She's playful without being wild, affectionate without being needy, independent without being aloof, and funny without even trying.   Whether she's proudly carrying a giant slipper through the house, sneaking off with a sock, chasing butterflies in the yard, or gently grabbing your pant leg to invite you into another game, she has a way of making ordinary moments unforgettable.   If you're looking for a cheerful best friend who will fill your home with laughter, love, and just the occasional missing slipper, Jambalaya is ready to steal your heart. July 7, 2026, 5:57 pm

This adorable 10-12 month old Cockapoo weighs about 20 pounds and has a soft, non-shedding coat that's just begging to be snuggled. He was surrendered to our rescue through no fault of his own, and now he's ready to find the family that will love him forever.   Professional Explorer   Gumbo believes every day is an adventure waiting to happen. His mornings start bright and early with a nice walk, followed by what he considers his full-time job: exploring the backyard.   Birds? He'll chase them. Butterflies? Absolutely. Deer by the creek? He's keeping watch just in case they appear. Sprinklers and garden hoses? Those are his sworn enemies, and he bravely battles them every chance he gets... even if he always ends up soaking wet.   When he's not patrolling the yard, you'll find him playing fetch, zooming around with his doggy sister, or proudly carrying his favorite toy—his human brother's soft Nerf football. Gumbo also has a special appreciation for plush toys... and sometimes he mistakes blankets, pillows, sweaters, and socks for oversized plushies, so it's best to keep the laundry picked up!   Sweet as Can Be   For all his puppy antics, Gumbo has an incredibly gentle soul. He isn't clingy or demanding, but he always likes to know where his people are. Every so often he'll interrupt his busy play schedule just to come over for a few kisses, a quick hug, and a little check-in before heading back outside for more fun.   When Gumbo wants affection, he really wants affection. He'll happily jump into your arms if another dog is getting too much attention and stare deeply into your eyes like he's trying to memorize your soul. It's impossible not to melt when this living teddy bear looks at you with those sweet eyes.   The Perfect Playmate   Gumbo absolutely loves other dogs and has done wonderfully with every pup he's met, both on and off leash. He especially enjoys chasing games with his foster sister and would likely love having a playful canine companion in his forever home.   He's also wonderful with people of all ages and would much rather greet visitors with happy kisses than barking. In fact, he rarely barks at all unless another dog convinces him it's necessary.   Like any young dog, Gumbo is still polishing a few skills. He's making progress with house training, so his future family should be prepared to continue helping him with consistency and routine. He's also an enthusiastic walker who gets so excited to meet new people and dogs that he'll need some continued leash training. The good news? He's incredibly people-oriented, comes when called, and is eager to be with his family, making him a wonderful candidate for positive reinforcement training.   His Dream Home   Gumbo would love an active family that enjoys spending time outside and has a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore, play fetch, chase butterflies, and continue his ongoing rivalry with the sprinklers.   He'd be thrilled to have another playful dog to romp around with, but more than anything, he wants people who will include him in their daily adventures and save plenty of time for cuddles afterward.   Why You'll Fall in Love   There are dogs you like... and then there are dogs that completely steal your heart. Gumbo is definitely the second kind.   He has just the right amount of puppy energy to keep life fun without being overwhelming. He's endlessly curious, wonderfully affectionate, incredibly social, and always ready to make you smile. Whether he's proudly parading around the house with a blanket he 'rescued,' checking in for a quick face kiss during backyard playtime, or gazing into your eyes as though he's hanging on every word you say, Gumbo has a way of making every moment feel a little more joyful.   If you're looking for a happy, playful, loving best friend with a heart as big as his personality, Gumbo can't wait to meet you. July 7, 2026, 5:57 pm
