Story
This beautiful 5-year-old black and white Cocker Spaniel is a breeder release with a soft coat and a quiet, observant personality. She will do best in a calm, predictable environment with gentle handling and patience as she builds confidence.
She is potty trained and kennel trained, and she can also be trusted loose in the home. Her foster confidently leaves her out of the kennel when away, as she is calm and non-destructive in the house.
With other animals, she is an easy companion. She gets along well with other dogs, tends to follow them around rather than actively engage in play, and she ignores the cat in the home.
She does show some resource sensitivity around food. While not aggressive, she may use mild intimidation to keep other dogs away from her bowl, so structured feeding management is recommended.
Leash experience appears limited. While she was reportedly leash trained, her current behavior suggests she will need a refresher and continued leash training, especially in new or stimulating environments. Her recall is generally good, but it can weaken when she is following scents or distractions.
She has a strong nose and tracks outdoor scents, especially small wildlife like chipmunks. Because of this, a secure fenced yard is strongly recommended, as she may follow a scent trail and become less responsive when engaged in tracking behavior.
She is also a sensitive dog to sound and sudden movement. Loud noises (TV, raised voices, household sounds) or fast hand motions can cause her to retreat quickly into her kennel for comfort.
She will require grooming. She also became fearful during grooming, particularly with loud dryer noises.
Fancy rides well in the car; however, the foster has noticed that she does lunge out of the kennel when the door is opened or while it is being opened, so she will need to be secured on a leash and the kennel door blocked to prevent her from jumping out and potentially running off. Her experience with excursions away from home have been scary for her so patience will be needed as she gets used to outings, new places, loud noises, and the hectic busyness of the world.
