Story
Introducing Zaida! This sweet border collie mix came to AFRP after she was found along the side of a road where a good samaritan stopped to help her. Now, she's thriving in foster care and ready to find her forever home! Zaida is an active girl, treat-motivated and loving as can be. She's on the hunt for a home with experienced adopters who have previously owned herding breeds and understand the extensive physical and mental stimulation required to make these pups thrive! Zaida would prefer to find a home as the only pup but does well with other dogs - she loves being the center of attention! She's not an apartment pup and will require a fenced-in yard to ensure she's able to have some space to get all of that energy out! Zaida will need an adult only family, or adopters with children over the age of 8 to continue her positive training and socialization. While in our care, Zaida has been diagnosed with idiopathic head tremor syndrome (IHTS), a benign condition characterized by focal head tremors of unknown cause. While this condition is not fully understood, Zaida's continuous head and body tremors are managed as part of her unique journey. Tremors do resolve over time, but some, such as Zaida, have continuous head and body tremors. Alongside this, Zaida is currently taking long-term medication to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, as well as OCD. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our required online dog application.

Story
Looks like: Border Collie Mix Female, 10 years old (estimated), 51 pounds Sweet Sasha has had a difficult past, but it's been a true joy watching her come out of her shell and show her true colors - that of a loyal, sweet and happy border collie mix. Once she has settled into your home, you will find this gentle girl right by your side (preferably on a soft doggie bed) eager for love and affection. This little lady is looking for a forever home where she can spend her years surrounded by love and support. Sasha would do best in a calm, quiet home, which likely means that young children will not be a good fit. She does well with other calm dogs she meets while out and about and may thrive while living with such a 'furiend'. She has been living harmoniously with another large and more energetic dog in her foster home. She is very patient as her foster brother runs around her and she loves to lean against you to get attention. We have not yet seen Sasha interact with kitties. Sasha had surgery in the past to remove mammary masses. She has healed well from this and her coat is growing in so gorgeous, shiny, and full! As she started feeling better, she found her voice and started to give a few barks to alert her family members of strangers. She did go through a period of nipping at strangers who approached her but has shown significant improvement on this; her foster mom still gives her room from strangers while on walks but if foster mom starts to talk with someone close by, Sasha now waits quietly. On her walks, sweet talk and a treat to redirect her attention has worked wonders for helping her feel safe while out and about. Sasha is looking for her next person/family with patience to continue to work with her on any lingering anxiety and help her gain confidence. This persevering pup was found as a stray in Modesto and came to us from Stanislaus Animal Services so we could get her the medical care she needed.
