Story
Introducing Zaida! This sweet border collie mix came to AFRP after she was found along the side of a road where a good samaritan stopped to help her. Now, she's thriving in foster care and ready to find her forever home! Zaida is an active girl, treat-motivated and loving as can be. She's on the hunt for a home with experienced adopters who have previously owned herding breeds and understand the extensive physical and mental stimulation required to make these pups thrive! Zaida would prefer to find a home as the only pup but does well with other dogs - she loves being the center of attention! She's not an apartment pup and will require a fenced-in yard to ensure she's able to have some space to get all of that energy out! Zaida will need an adult only family, or adopters with children over the age of 8 to continue her positive training and socialization. While in our care, Zaida has been diagnosed with idiopathic head tremor syndrome (IHTS), a benign condition characterized by focal head tremors of unknown cause. While this condition is not fully understood, Zaida's continuous head and body tremors are managed as part of her unique journey. Tremors do resolve over time, but some, such as Zaida, have continuous head and body tremors. Alongside this, Zaida is currently taking long-term medication to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, as well as OCD. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been received and approved. Visit www.animalfriendsrescue.org for our required online dog application.

Story
Looks like: Border Collie Mix Female, 10 years old (estimated), 51 pounds Sweet Sasha has had a difficult past, but it's been a true joy watching her come out of her shell and show her true colors - that of a loyal, sweet and happy border collie mix. Once she has settled into your home, you will find this gentle girl right by your side (preferably on a soft doggie bed) eager for love and affection. Sasha loves to snuggle and has the softest, cuddliest coat that she enjoys getting brushed. This sweet lady is looking for a forever home where she can spend her years surrounded by love and support. Sasha would do best in a calm, quiet home that is free from too many stairs as she has some arthritis that can make going up and down stairs painful. She does well with other calm dogs she meets while out and about and may thrive while living with such a 'furiend'. She has been living harmoniously with another large and more energetic dog in her foster home and a younger dog that was recently adopted by her foster family. She is very patient as her foster brother runs around her. On her walks, sweet talk and a treat to redirect her attention as strangers go by has worked wonders for helping her feel safe while out and about. Sasha is looking for her next person/family with patience to continue to work with her on any lingering anxiety and help her gain confidence. This persevering pup was found as a stray in Modesto and came to us from Stanislaus Animal Services so we could get her the medical care she needed.

Guess what? I would love to go home with you! I am looking for a quiet home where I can relax in a sunbeam and be your faithful companion. I really love chasing balls and playing with toys. Do you want to play with me? I might seem a little shy right now but when you spend some time with me you'll learn what a wonderful and loving companion I am. I was a stray in Gonzales when the SPCA rescued me. Because I can be a bit shy I would prefer to live in a home without kids under age 7 please! 07/24/24 23:56DOG DAY OUT REPORT:Today I: Went on a long walk on Coyote Creek Trail! I had so much fun on the car ride, and even though I had a lot of energy, I waited patiently in the backseat. I was super excited when we got to the trail, and I walked so well. We saw other people, other dogs, and even some squirrels. And even though I really wanted to meet them, I stayed next to my friend. We relaxed on a park bench for some time where I got to watch some other people and I got pets and belly rubs from my friend. After our walk, I was an expert at sitting in the car on the way back. Three Words to Describe Me are: Energetic, cuddly, curiousNotes from My Walker: Citrine is very bouncy at first, but very sweet and I had no problems getting him ready/in the car. He was well behaved on his walk. He needs some practice walking on a leash, but he didn’t show much reactivity on the trail. He wanted to meet some of the other dogs, but he was easy to manage. He is a little afraid of bikes, but he does not panic and still walks well. He didn’t show signs of getting tired after walking about 5 miles, but it was getting hot so we didn’t go longer. He is so lovable and affectionate, and we had a nice cuddle session. He was able to get into and out of the car easily, and was very interested in treats. I think he would be great for an active family.07/23/24 09:34Meet Citrine! This little dynamo is a fetch superstar. His favorite thing in the world is a tennis ball and a game of fetch - he even brings the ball back to your feet! Citrine has an infectious smile and will keep you laughing. He’s a social boy that is great with all people and loves doggie playgroups. He’s ball and treat motivated and knows sit. Ready to add a fun loving active companion to your home? Citrine is your guy!04/04/24 13:34notes from foster:Meet Citrine, a vibrant dog bursting with energy and affection. Citrine`s zest and energy is infectious and will thrive in a home with just as much energy. While he may need some guidance in the housebreaking department, Citrine`s eagerness to learn, play and give full-body hugs more than make up for it. His endearing clumsiness never fails to bring a smile to your face, making every moment with him a delightful adventure. Already familiar with basic commands like `sit` and `down,` and fully crate trained, Citrine enjoys winding down by selecting a toy from his basket before settling into his crate fo

Story
Introducing Phantom! This sweet pup came into our care with his two siblings as a result of an accidental breeding. Phantom was born completely blind, but this doesn't slow him down! He is quite the gentle pup and uses those little ears of his to lead the way and he's adapted great to this new style of life. His foster let us know that Phantom has a knack for finding his way into your heart, as he'll happily sit or lay by, or even on your feet, offering a sense of comfort and warmth. His funny and playful nature will keep you entertained, and he's always up for a game of follow-the-leader, either by lead or scent. This water-loving pup is a true "water puppy," loving the joy of swimming and playing in the river. Blindness doesn't slow Phantom down; in fact, it adds to his charm and resilience. He navigates the world with grace and enthusiasm, proving that love knows no boundaries. His playful demeanor extends to other dogs, and he's known to be good with cats but would prefer a home with an experienced adult owner or a family with older children who have previously worked with special needs dogs (preferably blind dogs). His future owner would be someone who is home throughout the day with him, able to continue positive training and socialization for his safety. Pre-registration for general obedience classes is a requirement for adoption. Phantom is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been approved. Introducing Grace, AKA Amazing Grace! This sweet pup came into our care with her two siblings as a result of an accidental breeding. Grace was born completely deaf and blind, but this doesn't slow her down! Her amazing nose leads her on adventures out on the trail, in the mountains, and into any body of water, making her a true explorer at heart. Learning through scent and touch, Grace has adapted beautifully to her surroundings. Her ultra-sweet nature shines through, making her a joy to be around. Grace is not only super playful but also remarkably resilient, she can stand up to any dog while playing and absolutely loves a good game of tug of war. Grace's housebroken manners are impeccable, provided she knows the location of her designated potty spot and has access to the outdoors. Remarkably, she never loses her temper, showcasing her gentle and patient disposition. Grace does great with both dogs and cats, but any introductions would have to be done slowly and over time. Grace's future adopters would preferably be an experienced owner or family with older children that have previously owned a special needs animal (preferably blind or deaf). It is vital that her positive training is continued not only for her socialization but for her safety as well. There's more to Grace than just her resilience; she's a true kissy face lovebug. Her affectionate nature knows no bounds, and her presence is a heartwarming reminder that love and joy can thrive in any circumstance. Pre-registration for general obedience classes is a requirement for adoption. Grace is currently in foster care. Meet and greets can be arranged once your online application has been approved. This bouncy and loving girl is packed full of energy and eager to be your new running partner. Need someone to keep you focused on your exercise goals? Missy is your girl! Though she is an active young lady, she does enjoy her downtime as well. She loves a nice cuddle session, keeping busy with a hard chew toy, and even learning new things with a positive reinforcement training session. Sweet and gentle Missy greets everyone she meets with a happy tail wag and a big loving smile. She has done wonderfully with dogs of all sizes but can get very excited at times. She needs occasional breaks when she's with little dogs, as she doesn't quite realize how much bigger she is! Missy joined us after her owner moved into an assisted living facility that didn't allow pets.
