HI - I'M PACO! I am a sweet 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix in need of a forever home! I was rescued from the streets of Ensenada, Mexico, by a compassionate Canadian couple who then tried to find me a home. Eventually I was placed in a rescue and am doing great! Now, I spend my days running around, playing with my doggy pals, and then taking a much needed nap! I weigh only 40 lbs and am a happy, fun-loving boy. I am an affectionate sweetheart and love nothing more than to snuggle. I'm also fully housebroken and great with cats! Meet Motley, the mixed breed. We suspect Motley is a mix of breeds but have him listed as a cattle dog mix. Motley arrived to the Shelter with his, seemingly, brother Saxon as strays. We do not know about their lives before the Shelter. Although they arrived together, we are looking for separate adoptive homes for them. Staff have observed that Motley walks nicely on leash and is attentive. He has met Maya, a female German Shepherd, and enjoyed playing with her. A dog friend in the home may be a match, especially if they’d want to play with Motley. We’d recommend any resident dogs meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have a history of Motley with children or cats. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

He is a young gentleman with a heart of gold, interested in long walks (or runs!), and is looking for his forever adventure buddy! This handsome boy would be a perfect fit for someone who is looking for a young energetic dog who enjoys exercise and lots of affection and love! Koda sits on command and could benefit from a loving, patient, and understanding guardian to teach him other basic commands and how to politely walk on leash. He gets along with other dogs but does tend to bark at them when he is out on walks to let them know he wants to play. Koda would not be a good fit in a home that has cats or children. Koda came to us after his senior guardian passed away.
