Story
Summer is a smart, energetic adolescent mix with a playful spirit and a love for learning. She already knows "sit" and "paw" and is eager to continue building her skills with an adopter who enjoys training and engagement. As an adolescent, Summer is still working on her basic manners, including mouthing and jumping on people-very typical behaviors for her age. Because of this, she would do best in a home with children over the age of 10 who can help reinforce calm, appropriate interactions. As a stray, Summer's history is largely unknown. However, she will need patient, understanding adopters who can gently introduce her to new experiences and help her build confidence as she navigates the world. She can be reactive to other dogs because she gets very excited to meet them and has a hard time containing her enthusiasm. Due to her energy level and reactivity, she will benefit from adopters who are committed to ongoing training and positive guidance. If you're looking for a dog who is sweet, playful, eager to learn, and ready to grow with the right support, Summer may be the perfect match for you. Summer is currently available Behind the Scenes and will require a Behavior Consult before going home with her forever family. She is also eligible for Foster to Adopt if you'd like more time to get to know her before making a commitment. Please ask Customer Care to learn more about meeting Summer. Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: White Weight: 29 Age: 0yrs 9mths 3wks

Story
HI - I'M PACO! I am a sweet 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix in need of a forever home! I was rescued from the streets of Ensenada, Mexico, by a compassionate Canadian couple who then tried to find me a home. Eventually I was placed in a rescue and am doing great! Now, I spend my days running around, playing with my doggy pals, and then taking a much needed nap! I weigh only 40 lbs and am a happy, fun-loving boy. I am an affectionate sweetheart and love nothing more than to snuggle. I'm also fully housebroken and great with cats! Personality-wise, I'm quite mellow but I do get excited when I'm showered with love and attention. I can't wait to become someone's best friend! Please email for an application.

Story
Meet Kaido, the shepherd mix. This medium sized guy (36lbs) arrived at the Shelter after his previous family was moving and unable to continue caring for him. Kaido has lived with another dog (a smaller breed male), is crate trained and enjoys walks. After a little bit of decompression, Kaido has been soft and interested in interacting with staff and volunteers. He prefers more mellow dogs and sniffing them – backing away if he is overwhelmed. Kaido would likely do well as the only dog in his next home but may coexist with a mellow dog as well as a slow, thoughtful introduction. He does have a history of being crate trained and was crated when left home alone for 4-6 hours a day. He loves kong style toys. Kaido knows `sit`, `stay`, `leave it` and is still perfecting `down`. He is a good sized adventure bud and loves riding in the car!The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Looks like: Australian Shepherd mix Male, 3 years old (estimated), 79 pounds Smiley Koda is a large bundle of energy and love! He is a young gentleman with a heart of gold, interested in long walks (or runs!), and is looking for his forever adventure buddy! This handsome boy would be a perfect fit for someone who is looking for a young energetic dog who enjoys exercise and lots of affection and love! Koda sits on command and could benefit from a loving, patient, and understanding guardian to teach him other basic commands and how to politely walk on leash. He gets along with other dogs but does tend to bark at them when he is out on walks to let them know he wants to play. Koda would not be a good fit in a home that has cats or children. Koda came to us after his senior guardian passed away.
