Pepper — Sweet, Smart, and Ready for Her Forever Home! Pepper is a kind and wonderfully smart young lab mix who brings sunshine everywhere she goes. She loves other dogs and plays beautifully with them, but she’d also be perfectly happy as an only dog soaking up all the attention. Pepper is mostly house trained, loves her toys, and could sunbathe the day away without a care in the world. She enjoys the water, settles in easily in the car and home, and has an easygoing personality that makes her a joy to have around. She’s curious, eager to learn, and already showing how bright she is. Whether you’re looking for a playful buddy or a calm companion, Pepper fits right in. If you’re ready to add a loving, loyal companion to your life, Pepper will be your perfect match! Fill out an application at www.maggiesmissionrescue.org

Story
Meet Dodger. He was saved from an overcrowded shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia. He is now fully vetted, neutered and all vaccines. Dodger did test positive for Ehrlichia before he came to us and was put on a regimen of doxycycline. He should need no further treatment and has no symptoms. He loves to play with other dogs and would benefit from another dog in the household. Probably not a good candidate for a home with cats. He is a friendly guy but young children may not be a good fit due to his exuberance .  I do prefer a fenced yard for Dodger so he can play and burn off energy. His foster dad has been working on commands with him and Dodger is a quick learner and doing great. He has mastered many commands. He is a smart leaner and wants to please. He will heed a caregiver willing to exercise him. His foster family has told us that he loves to swim in their pond.  His adoption fee is $200. If interested in Dodger, please email hartmanshounds@gmail.com.July 3, 2026, 5:46 pm

Story
Please Help Me Keep a Promise AND SHARE Six and a half years ago, I helped place a puppy named Everest from the shelter. His family renamed him Patch, and for the last 6.5 years, he has been exactly what every shelter hopes for when a dog leaves their care: loved, cherished, spoiled, and treated like family. You couldn't ask for better adopters. A few days ago, I got a phone call that broke my heart. Patch's mom has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and recently learned she doesnt have all but a few months most likely. His dad is facing serious health issues of his own and can no longer care for Patch. Today, Patch's mom said something I'll never forget: "You put Patch in my arms, and you'll take him out of my arms. And that's the most comforting thing to me because I know you'll make sure he's in a good home." Honestly, that broke me. Their biggest concern is making sure he'll be loved. This is why responsible rehoming exists. Not because a dog became inconvenient. Sometimes life changes in ways no one could have prepared for. When I asked Patch's mom if there was anything I could do for her, she simply said: "Please find Patch a good home." So that's what I'm trying to do. 6.5 years old Good with people Crate trained Knows sit, stay, paw, and other basic commands Loves carrots Generally does well with other dogs Enjoys his walks but is just as happy relaxing on the couch afterward Will gladly let you know when the mailman or Amazon driver arrives Does well with kids, but can be playful and a little jumpy Cats unknown In other words, he's a dog. A really good one. If you think you might be the right fit, or know someone who is, please reach out. And if you can't adopt, please share and help me keep that promise.

Story
Meet Buddy! Its amazing what we can learn from foster homes. Once dogs leave the shelter environment and settle into a home, their true personalities often begin to shine. Thats exactly whats happened with Buddy. Very smart and highly trainable Active and energetic Loves being outside Enjoys snuggling on the couch with his people Knows several basic commands and is learning more every day Walks well on a leash and continues to work on his manners Understands no and responds well to clear boundaries Loves having a job, especially keeping watch over squirrels and birds in the yard Loyal and protective of his person Buddy is thriving with structure, consistency, and a confident handler. He would do best with an experienced dog owner who can provide calm leadership and help him continue building on all the progress hes made. While he can be a little stubborn and feisty at times, his foster says its very manageable and simply part of his personality. His foster also believes he may be some type of Border Collie mix rather than a Chihuahua mix, and honestly, we can definitely see the intelligence and drive! We are so grateful to Buddys foster family for helping us learn more about him and showing us just how much potential this special little guy has. Foster homes truly save livesnot just by providing a temporary place to stay, but by helping dogs show us who they really are. Interested in Buddy?
