Meet Roger, a sweet, gentle boy who loves people, enjoys spending time with children, and is always happy to make a new friend. One of his favorite activities is strolling through the neighborhood, soaking up attention from the children who stop to say hello. Roger could would be a great sideline cheerleader for his favorite little humans at a soccer game while collecting plenty of extra pets and affection!
Roger’s kind and thoughtful nature has been evident throughout his life. Even during his bouncy adolescent years, he was careful around small children and respectful of a senior family member with significant mobility challenges. He seems to have a natural understanding that some people need a little extra space and consideration, and he responds with remarkable gentleness.
Roger gets along well with other dogs, has a low prey drive, and has lived successfully with cats. He has no history of aggression or leash reactivity. While he enjoys exploring the world with his people, he would likely be happiest in a quieter suburban or rural setting rather than a busy urban environment, as crowded city streets can sometimes overwhelm him. A fenced yard would be ideal, though he can thrive without one as long as he has regular opportunities to go for walks, explore new places, and indulge his love of sniffing.
Don’t let his love of the outdoors fool you. Roger isn’t a high-energy dog and prefers a nice balance of activity and relaxation. Roger enjoys hikes and would make an excellent companion for an active person or couple who would like to gradually build up to longer adventures together. Just as important, he’s a bright, thoughtful dog who genuinely enjoys training and having a job to do. He has received extensive basic obedience training and could be an excellent candidate for rally, scent work, pet therapy or other activities that engage his mind while strengthening his bond with his person.
Roger also has a sensitive side. He is uncomfortable when his tail is stepped on and may startle if someone passes too closely while he is resting. Because of this, he would do best in a home with children approximately six years of age or older who can understand and respect a dog’s personal space. He rides beautifully in the car and is an excellent travel companion. However, visits to places such as the veterinarian and groomer can make him nervous, so he benefits from extra patience, reassurance, and a little time to settle in.
He would thrive with a single person, a couple, or a family with older children who have time to devote to him, enjoy including their dog in daily activities, and appreciate both his gentle heart and eagerness to learn. Roger loves curling up on the couch with his people, so he’ll be happiest in a home where dogs are welcome on the furniture as well.
