Everyone is ready now to find their new homes. Sara is a sweet dog and loves to give hugs and kisses. She knows some basic commands and has good manners. Now spayed and happy to have raised her last set of puppies, Sara is very much ready to find a family to love. Sara is about 4 years old and 60 pounds. Story
Meet Nacho, the wise 9-year-old Coonhound with a touching back story. This devoted senior pup was going about his routine when tragedy struck—his owner passed away at home. With no one around to lend a hand, Nacho faced several anxious hours with no response. Showing incredible courage, he took matters into his own paws. Breaking through a ground floor window, Nacho was on a mission to seek help.   Discovered running freely, the police, guided by the info on his tags, returned him to his address, only to uncover the heartbreaking truth about his late owner. Nacho found himself at a local NJ shelter, searching for a new loving home, but NorthStar Pet Rescue stepped in to pull him to safety. They are helping Nacho feel safe and loved again and will be looking for a wonderful forever home for this boy.   Here's what we have learned about Nacho. He is an extremely gentle soul and is already neutered. He currently weighs 65 pounds. He does not like other dogs in his face and although he was in foster with other dogs, he would prefer a home where he is the only dog. He can be reactive to dogs when on a walk but is working on it with our trainer and learning more everyday. He barks at cars and will chase them. He is not aggressive with food and is very well potty trained. Nacho is a good mix of playful and active but also likes his downtime too. He loves squeaky balls (non-destructible kinds work best), taking walks, being outside, being close to his people. He fusses when anyone leaves the house, understandable based on his history. He does not use a crate. He’s not a chewer of shoes or furniture but soft squeaky toys don’t stand a chance. He knows his name, can sit on command, gives paw (most of the time) and takes his treats nicely. Nacho has had a full blood panel and an aspiration of the mass on his hind foot, both came out as unremarkable. He is now on medication for arthritis.   If you'd like to be part of Nacho's new life, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for him by name, NACHO NJ! This boy has been through so much and we are hoping he will be back in a loving home very soon! July 26, 2024, 7:09 am

Story
Looking for an active and affectionate companion? Meet Django, a spirited coonhound mix ready for his forever home. Django is a young coonhound mix who is crate and house trained. He loves hiking, swimming, and outdoor adventures, making him the perfect companion for an active lifestyle. Despite his energetic nature, Django also enjoys cuddles, belly rubs, and naps. He is friendly with children and other dogs, though he might not realize his size around smaller children. His adventurous spirit and prey drive mean a fenced yard is ideal for his explorations. Due to his prey drive, Django should not be in a home with cats. Django loves people and has a typical hound temperament, while still being very trainable with patience. He is fairly quiet for his breed. He forms deep bonds and prefers not to be left alone for long periods, making him best suited for a home where someone is around frequently.
