Story
Hi, I'm Cedric! So.... long story short, my owner went to jail and I was living in a tiny camper with a total of 6 dogs and 4 guinea pigs inside. Not to mention the two that were chained up outside, so life was pretty croweded and confusing. Now, I'm learning what it feels like to have space and lots of people who care about me. I'm a little unsure at times, but i'm really trying my best and I warm up fast when someone shows me love! I'm looking for a fresh start with someone who can give me a safe, calm home. I promise i've got a big heart ready for you! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2601521##

Meet Tex – Your Loyal Little Lookout! 🐾 Tex is an approximately 2-year-old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix (or at least that’s our best guess), and he’s the perfect blend of small size and big heart. This sweet boy came to us from a rural shelter where he was very shut down and scared. Since arriving in his foster home, Tex has truly blossomed into a much more relaxed and confident pup. Now that he knows he’s safe, Tex enjoys the comforts of home life: lounging around, following his humans, and hanging out with the other dogs in the house. He’s also curious about the cats, though if they dart off too quickly, he might give a bark or two to let them know he noticed. Tex is an excellent little alert dog who takes his job seriously. If something unusual is happening around the property or if a sneaky squirrel dares to raid the bird feeder, Tex will sound the alarm. He’s got a great nose for mischief and will keep your porch squirrel-free. Tex would thrive in a calm, low-activity home where he can build a strong bond with his adopter. Once he knows he’s safe and loved, he’ll likely become your loyal little shadow. Tex is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines and preventions. Please note: Tex is only eligible for local adoption in the San Antonio area at this time. It took him several months to fully warm up in his foster home, and we are hoping to find an adopter nearby. If any issues arise, we want to ensure we can easily bring him back into our care. If you are in the San Antonio area and looking for a sweet and loyal companion, Tex might just be the perfect fit. Go ahead and submit an adoption application for him now! $200 Local Adoption Fee

Meet Amaya, the sweetest, most lovable tripod you’ll ever meet! This beautiful black-coated retriever mix has a heart every bit as big as her adorable smile. Amaya came to us after overcoming a tough start, and one of her back legs had to be removed to give her the comfortable, pain-free life she deserves. Now healed and thriving, Amaya has fully embraced her tripod superpowers! Her three-legged strut is absolutely adorable, and she navigates the world with a happy-go-lucky spirit that inspires everyone who meets her. She loves zooming around the yard, hopping up for cuddles, and showing off just how unstoppable she truly is. Amaya is also a world-class snuggler and adores being close to her people. Whether she’s cuddled at your side, giving endless kisses, or soaking up every bit of affection she can, she’s happiest when she’s loved and she gives that love right back tenfold. Now that she’s strong, joyful, and ready for her next chapter, Amaya is looking for a family to call her own. If you’re searching for a resilient, affectionate companion with a personality as bright as her beautiful black coat, Amaya is your girl. Come meet her and fall in love with this incredible tripod sweetheart! Local adoption fee is $250(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)

Meet Noodle!Noodle is a 2-year-old, 25-pound bundle of personality with a big-dog attitude in a small-dog body! She is full of love, energy, and enthusiasm — and she is not shy about showing it. Noodle adores her humans, loves to snuggle up close, and gives the sweetest and most enthusiastic kisses.Noodle is playful and energetic, and while she loves to play, she can play a bit rough so proper dog introductions are a must. Noodle walks nicely on a leash, is crate trained and appears to be potty trained, too! If you are looking for a little dog with a big heart, a silly spirit, and world-class snuggle skills, Noodle just might be your girl. All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

These pups are in Des Moines, Iowa too!

Story
Meet Australia! 🐾 1 year • 11 lbs • Long-haired Mini Dachshund Mix Australia is a tiny ball of fluff with a big heart and an even bigger love for her people. She’s a total Velcro pup who wants to be wherever you are—lap included! When left alone she’ll cry and howl for a bit, but she eventually settles. She’s active, playful, and full of puppy energy. Australia loves playing tag with younger dogs and would do great with another fun, active dog. She respects senior pups—unless they try to steal her human’s lap, which brings out her adorable little jealous streak. She has a healthy appetite, is mostly house-trained, does great with nail trims, and isn’t a fan of the crate when left alone. Australia will thrive with someone who can offer attention, structure, and plenty of love. If you want a snuggly shadow dog with a playful side, she’s your girl!
