Story
Nora was found as a stray and is an 8-year-old sweetheart who's all about love and affection. She enjoys being close to her people, soaking up pets, and sharing quiet, happy moments. Gentle, loving, and easygoing, Nora would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a calm, affectionate friend to call their own.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2620129##

Story
Hank is a 6 month old terrier mixed with some basset or corgi we think because of his short legs, big paws and long body. Hank has the sweetest face. He came to us from Oklahoma with a bad case of kennel cough but after treatment, doing so much better better. He is about 25 lbs and guessing he will be a medium sized dog. Hank loves his foster people and the foster dogs in his home. He loves to chase, get the zoomies, play tug of war and steal your shoes- he’s an absolute puppy. But Hank is the biggest lover. He loves to cuddle, sleep in bed, lay next to a human or his dog bed. Hank does go in his kennel while his foster parents are at work and he’s doing so great on potty training, he sits by the door when he needs to go out now. Hank loves to go for walks and walks very nicely on his leash. He does have a very deep loud hound bark when he passes other dogs. Hank is a little shy when meeting new people, especially small kids. But once he warms up to you, you’ve got a permanent shadow. Hank would thrive in a home with another dog but not a must if his humans are prepared to play, walk him and help him exert his energy then enjoy his snuggles when he crashes. All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Freddy is a high-energy, happy-go-lucky boy who is great with dogs and kids! He loves to do big zoomies in a circle, then race right back to you for cuddles. After a long day of playing fetch—where he happily chases the ball, even if he doesn’t always bring it back—Freddy is more than ready to snuggle in. If you’re on the couch, expect him to curl right into your back and soak up the love. Freddy is a joyful, affectionate boy who is absolutely ready to find his forever home. If you want it shorter or extra playful, I can tweak the tone too Local adoption fee is $200(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Rome! Rome is a 7-week-old Dachshund/Terrier mix weighing about 5 pounds, and he’s already mastered the art of being both cuddly and curious. His mom is a 20-pound Dachshund mix, and while dad is unknown, Rome’s sweet personality is undeniable. A true mama’s boy, Rome doesn’t love being alone and would thrive in a home where he can be close to his people. He is incredibly people-oriented and bonds quickly, making him a wonderful candidate for dog sports or simply a loyal, loving companion. Rome’s curious nose is always working, especially when treats are involved! He is very treat-motivated, which will make continued training fun and rewarding. He is already excelling at house training and is off to a great start with his puppy skills. This sweet boy gets along great with other dogs, cats, and kids, making him a fantastic fit for many types of families. If you’re looking for a snuggly, devoted puppy who also has an adventurous side, Rome may be your perfect match. 🐾💙

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mildly collapsing trachea dx 9/24/25 Rommy & Sophia are a bonded pair of pups looking for a home together! Rommy is the golden boy, around 10 years old. Sophia is the white and brown gal and is estimated to be around 7-8 years old. Together they bring out the best in each other! They love each others’ company and you can often find them lounging around and sleeping together. Sophia tends to be on the shy side but Rommy has helped her to become more brave. Rommy is full of love and has a mission to be your shadow. He’s the definition of a “Velcro dog” -  where you go, Rommy will be right behind you ready to offer moral support during every family meeting, snack run or Netflix binge.  This little gentleman has a partially collapsed trachea, which just means walks are better suited with a harness instead of a collar. He is currently working on house training and lives in a foster home where a doggie door is used. While progress has been made, he's a short guy and the struggle to get through the dog door is real, so he'd just prefer that you open the door for him to preserve his dignity.   Sophia is more timid but with some time she will warm up to you. She would prefer to have a safe space to go whenever she’s felling overwhelmed. A crate or space under a piece of furniture will do, she isn’t too picky! She enjoys being outside in the yard, doesn’t mind the rain and is mostly house trained. She will use pee pads in the house if they are available to her. She gets very excited for food, so you’ll have to be careful not to overfeed her because she has a tendency towards love handles (that are honestly adorable).   Rommy and Sophia’s  adoption fee is $450 and includes their spay and neuter, microchip, and current vaccinations and preventatives. Last Hope requires that all animals be keep as indoor pets only and that adopters have a history of having kept their pets altered and current on vaccines and prevention. Our adoption process includes a background check, vet history check, and a home visit. If you would like to meet them please submit an adoption application on our website, Adopthope.org.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 8, 2025, 7:20 am
