Story
Chapo is a small senior with a BIG personality and an even bigger voice! This little guy always has something to say and isn't shy about sharing his opinions, whether he's greeting you, reminding you it's dinner time, or just chatting about his day. He's slightly house trained and will thrive with a patient family willing to keep him on a consistent routine. Chapo is wonderful with kids and gets along great with other dogs, even those much larger than him. He hasn't met cats yet, so slow introductions would be recommended.Chapo absolutely loves being outdoors, soaking up the sunshine, exploring the yard, and keeping watch over his domain. If you're looking for a spunky, talkative companion who will keep you entertained and be your loyal little shadow, Chapo is your guy! $135.00 Fee includes initial vaccines, worming, microchip with registration, and free vet health exam. This pet has been fed Country Vet Naturals, donated to us by Country Vet. Primary Color: Tan Weight: 17.4 Age: 8yrs 0mths 0wks

Story
Hi, I'm Nora! I'm an 8 year old girl that is special needs. I have diabetes insipidus which you can read more about online but basically it is not treated with insulin. Currently I am on a medication for it twice daily and it seems to be helping. I'm a sweet girl but not a fan of other animals so I'm looking to be your one and only. What do you say? Take a senior girly home and love me forever.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2620129##

Story
My name is Simone and I am a tan & brown dachshund longhair/yorkshire terrier mix. I am a spayed female and I am 9 months old. I am here because I was given up by my owner on 02/21/2026 due to the fact my owner had personal problems happening in their life and could not take care of me anymore. They were my family for 1-3 months. I am used to staying inside during the day and inside during the night. I am potty trained. I am a high energy dog and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience. I am not used to being left in a crate. I am great about walking nicely on leash. Any sort of training can help dogs bond with their owners. The shelter staff are assessing what kind of training program would be best for me - every dog is different! I dash out open doors if given the opportunity. I would do best in a setting with two doors between exterior doors, such as a screened in porch or hallway, or to be shut in another room or in a kennel before any doors or windows are opened. I would like a standard height fence to help keep me inside the yard. I can be good with men, women, and children.

Freddy is a high-energy, happy-go-lucky boy who is great with dogs and kids! He loves to do big zoomies in a circle, then race right back to you for cuddles. After a long day of playing fetch—where he happily chases the ball, even if he doesn’t always bring it back—Freddy is more than ready to snuggle in. If you’re on the couch, expect him to curl right into your back and soak up the love. Freddy is a joyful, affectionate boy who is absolutely ready to find his forever home. Local adoption fee is $200(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mildly collapsing trachea dx 9/24/25 Rommy & Sophia are a bonded pair of pups looking for a home together! Rommy is the golden boy, around 10 years old. Sophia is the white and brown gal and is estimated to be around 7-8 years old. Together they bring out the best in each other! They love each others’ company and you can often find them lounging around and sleeping together. Sophia tends to be on the shy side but Rommy has helped her to become more brave. Rommy is full of love and has a mission to be your shadow. He’s the definition of a “Velcro dog” -  where you go, Rommy will be right behind you ready to offer moral support during every family meeting, snack run or Netflix binge.  This little gentleman has a partially collapsed trachea, which just means walks are better suited with a harness instead of a collar. He is currently working on house training and lives in a foster home where a doggie door is used. While progress has been made, he's a short guy and the struggle to get through the dog door is real, so he'd just prefer that you open the door for him to preserve his dignity.   Sophia is more timid but with some time she will warm up to you. She would prefer to have a safe space to go whenever she’s felling overwhelmed. A crate or space under a piece of furniture will do, she isn’t too picky! She enjoys being outside in the yard, doesn’t mind the rain and is mostly house trained. She will use pee pads in the house if they are available to her. She gets very excited for food, so you’ll have to be careful not to overfeed her because she has a tendency towards love handles (that are honestly adorable).   Rommy and Sophia’s  adoption fee is $450 and includes their spay and neuter, microchip, and current vaccinations and preventatives. Last Hope requires that all animals be keep as indoor pets only and that adopters have a history of having kept their pets altered and current on vaccines and prevention. Our adoption process includes a background check, vet history check, and a home visit. If you would like to meet them please submit an adoption application on our website, Adopthope.org.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 8, 2025, 7:20 am
