UPDATE!! Meet Tammy! This sweet girl and her brother were saved from a local overcrowded shelter. They look like adorable dachshund/heeler/terrier mixes. They are around 12ish weeks and 9 lbs. They are sweet and spunky. Playful and love all people and animals. They will be altered next week and then be ready for their forever homes. Get your apps in now— we are reserving them to the perfect families!   Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. New environments, situations, families, routines, ect. can lead to accidents even with the most well trained animals.  All dogs have a $195 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies will be altered before adoption. All rescues and shelters practice pediatric spay and neuter. This is essential in our rescue efforts and it is a policy that we will stick by. All dogs over 8 weeks and 2 pounds will be altered before adoption. There are no exceptions to this rule on all healthy and adoptable dogs. We have researched and discussed in depth with multiple vets everything on pediatric spay and neuter and from a rescue stand point it must be done. Please do not ask for an extension on spay and neutering, it will NOT be granted on a healthy puppy!  Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Deposits can ONLY be submitted once the rescue has been in contact on your approval and it has been requested through Wags and Whiskers. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $145 is due at pick up. Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. Please allow us time to respond to all inquires and applications! Thank you! Story
Esther is a 6-year-old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix who came to us after being surrendered to a shelter with the intent of euthanasia. Thankfully, we were able to intervene and bring her safely to For Pet’s Sake Rescue, where she has been in our care since early November. Esther is a timid girl who takes time to feel secure in a new environment. In the beginning, she may hide, avoid cuddling, and show her discomfort through shivering. This is simply her way of processing change. With patience and consistency, Esther slowly acclimates, and once she does, the transformation is truly worth the wait. When she feels safe, Esther reveals her true self: a loving cuddle bug who enjoys companionship and affection. She does well with other dogs and cats, is kennel trained, and fully housetrained. Inside the home, she is calm, easygoing, and well-mannered. Outside, however, her confident side shines and she proudly patrols her space, chasing squirrels while keeping watch over her home. Esther would thrive in a patient, understanding home that allows her the time she needs to settle in and blossom. In return, she offers loyalty, warmth, and a big heart in a small package.   PLEASE READ THIS TO ADOPT: ***ALL ANIMALS ARE CURRENTLY IN LONG BEACH, MISSISSIPPI.*** We transport adopted animals every 2-3 weeks to Northeast states.  Completed applications take precedence over inquiries. If you are interested in adopting, the FIRST step is to complete an application.  We will discuss additional details with potential adopters once we have an application on file.  For Pet's Sake Rescue is a Mississippi based rescue. We are located in an overpopulated area surrounded by high-kill shelters. Adoption fees include transport, vetting and a MS Health Certificate to travel. Each pet is spayed/neutered, receives age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, heartworm test (6 months and older) microchipped and  flea/tick/heartworm prevention.  ***Breed input is required for each platform but is not guaranteed to be accurate. We do not breed or DNA test.*** You can visit our website at www.forpetssakerescue.org for our full adoption process and adoption application. You can view the locations we transport to on our website under Adoptions. ##2571517##
