Brody thrives with patient caregivers who understand his breed and are willing to ease him into new situations. He's highly motivated by treats, making training a breeze. Neutered and well-trained, Brody is generally healthy but requires daily medication for his nervousness. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hello, my name is Kash!  I am a VERY handsome short haired red Dachshund who is one year old!  I am the perfect size at approximately 12 pounds!  I am heartworm negative, up to date on shots, and neutered.   I am ready for my human! Even though I’m a year old, I still need help with all my training.  Please remember outside of my incredible cuteness – I am still very puppy minded. I love slippers, tennis shoes, toys, and anything that has your scent all over it!  So if you don’t want me getting ahold of these things, puppy proofing is necessary.  Speaking of toys, I LOVE the ones with the crinkle material…oh and squeakers!  Who doesn’t love those??  I also love other dogs and would love a home where I can have a doggie friend to hang out with and share all my treasures with! My Foster Mom and fellow canine housemates are working with me on my house training.  We go outside regularly – especially when I wake up.  I have had a couple of accidents, but I am getting better every day with my Foster Mom’s help! I am working on my crate training as well but I’m not crazy about it.  I make a little noise but will settle down after a while.  I am very good in the car and love to go on adventures!  I do need a little work on my leash training but I’m a very smart guy and will pick it up quickly! I am a little shy at first, so don’t expect me to coming running right up to you in the beginning.  If you give me a moment, I warm up quickly.  My social skills will continue to improve with my new human’s help!  I just can’t wait to have a human of my own! It’s unknown how I am with children but I would probably do best in a home with older, calmer children due to my shy nature.  It’s unknown how I am with cats but that can be tested before adoption if needed. I really enjoy the outdoors and lying in the sun.  Oh!  I have recently discovered chasing squirrels!  The beset game ever!  I follow my Foster Mom around while she does her gardening and I bring her all kinds of twigs, leaves, and I just enjoy smelling the flowers. UPDATE!!&#226&#156&#168 Sweet Poppy will finally be adoption ready this coming week! This sweet girl came to us from a local shelter with a huge hernia and rotten teeth. Her hernia was repaired a few weeks back and she has healed beautifully! She goes in for her dental 4/30/24 and will then be all ready for adoption. Poppy is an adorable senior Mini Doxie. She’s around 9 lbs. our guess in age in 12 years. She’s got lots of spunk and life left so don’t let that age fool you. She’s great with other animals and loves all people. She’s utd, hw neg (tested below detectable levels) spayed and ready for a forever home to live out her golden years like she deserves!  Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. New environments, situations, families, routines, ect. can lead to accidents even with the most well trained animals.  All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Deposits can ONLY be submitted once the rescue has been in contact on your approval and it has been requested through Wags and Whiskers. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $125 is due at pick up. Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. Please allow us time to respond to all inquires and applications! Puffin is a one year old eight pound chi weenie. He was surrendered when his family had a new baby. Puffin is very entitled! He thinks he rules everyone and everything. He likes things done on his terms. Puffin ideal home is one with teenagers and or adults only, no small kids. He likes other dogs but it is unknown how he will react to cats. Puffin is looking for a patient adopter who will teach him rules in a kind way. He is not mean or aggressive just bossy. He is very entertaining and just needs the right person to be his Valentine! He does fine in a crate and ride in the car ok. He is still working on housetraining. He was just neutered Wednesday so hopefully this will get better. Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter Pets (FJCASP) is a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats. All pets are in a home environment cared for by a foster person who provides temporary care until the pet can be placed in a permanent home. Friends of Jackson County is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
