Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Does your property need a guardian from potential little critter trespassers?  Guthrie appears to have taken an oath to protect his home from all squirrels, both foreign (the black ones) and domestic!   He will bark an enthusiastic warning if they are anywhere around - they will not invade as long as he is on the job!   Little Guthrie was caught on the streets of Youngstown by some good Samaritans and taken to the pound. An obvious case of severe neglect, he was so deeply matted that he had to be anesthetized so he could be shaved down.  His teeth were rotten and after a much needed dental, he was able to keep five of them.  No worries, though.  He eats kibble JUST fine, thank you very much! The main foible we have encountered with him is that we suspect he was owned by someone who was unable to take care of him and take him outside regularly to potty.  It appears that he was made to wear a belly band all the time, so he will thoroughly wet one if left on him for more than an hour or so.  He simply thinks that’s what he’s supposed to do.  He also has a tendency to mark his territory, though that has decreased the longer he has been in his foster home.  Though he gets along well with the other dogs there, a forever home without other canines might eliminate that behavior.   now for the GOOD news!  We have been working on these issues, as we know it makes him harder to adopt.  We tried crating him when he first got here, but he would rub his nose raw against the metal bars trying to get out.   We have recently begun getting him used to a soft-sided crate - AND ITS WORKING!  His foster mom has been leaving him in it when she goes away, along with some tasty treats, and he is tolerating it well   So far, the longest he’s been kept there is 3-4 hours   He probably wouldn’t do well being kept in there for an average work day, so a home where someone is home more than that would be best.  His soft crate will go with him when he gets adopted.     He’s never once had the other kind of accident in the house, btw - just the wetting kind. Guthrie’s a super sweet guy with just the right mix of spunkiness and taking long naps on the couch next to his human.   In fact, the only things he needs to make him perfectly happy are a comfy couch to doze on, a person to cuddle next to, and good eats!  Well, that and maybe a few squirrels to bark at from time to time.      As mentioned, he gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home, but would be very content to have his humans all to himself.     And besides all that, he’s just so gosh darned cute! Does this little guy sound like someone you could open your heart and home to?  He’s been waiting to be wanted by someone so he can finally be adopted and enjoy the TLC-filled life that he deserves!   You can easily fill out an adoption application by clicking here:     adoption application.   For anyone viewing this on Petfinder, if you are interested in adopting this animal you will need to go to our website www.rosesrescue.net to fill out the online adoption application.
