Story
Uncle Lewis is about 2 years old and 17 lbs! Lewis is a quiet, thoughtful soul who’s spent most of his life fending for himself. Because of that, he’s learned to rely on independence instead of people—and the idea of love and safety is still new to him. But underneath that cautious exterior is a tender heart just waiting for the right person to show him the world isn’t so scary.Lewis feels safest in the company of calm dogs and in the comfort of his kennel, where he can decompress and observe life at his own pace. He has an avoidant attachment style and needs time, patience, and gentle consistency to learn that humans can be kind. Loud voices, sudden movements, or physical corrections would shut him down completely—he needs a home rooted in softness and respect. He’s also a clever little escape artist, always thinking five steps ahead, so his future family will need secure fencing and a watchful eye. Ideally, Lewis would thrive in a home with at least one calm, confident dog to help show him the ropes. Fast, unpredictable things—like a child on a scooter—can overwhelm him, so a quiet, adult-only household would be best. At this time, we’re unsure how he feels about men or cats.Lewis isn’t a “plug-and-play” dog—he’s a healing heart looking for a patient guide. But for the person willing to meet him where he is, the reward will be watching a once-fearful pup slowly bloom into a dog who finally knows what it means to feel safe.Could you be the gentle home Uncle Lewis has been waiting for?To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.

Story
Meet our Punky boy! At 17 years old, and with 18 lbs of love, Punky is…Spunky (on his schedule) ✔️Stubborn ✔️Snack-obsessed ✔️A certified cuddle lover ✔️Punky is the perfect mix of chill + personality. He loves lounging around, soaking up back scratches and ear rubs… but don’t be surprised if he has a little burst of energy to keep things interesting.😅He gets along great with other dogs, but fair warning, if there’s food nearby, he will try to negotiate extra servings! He’s not a fan of the kennel (very vocal about it), and he’ll need someone patient as he adjusts! But truly, this little man just wants love and someone to be near. ❤️Punky came to us after losing his mom—his whole world. He stood by her through her cancer battle, never leaving her side. From a tiny pup to 17 years old… she was everything to him. Now, he deserves to feel safe and loved again. We are currently running more tests due to some elevated calcium levels, and while there could be something more serious such as cancer, we’re still working to get answers. But no matter what… Punky deserves a home.Whether it’s months or years, he deserves comfort, love, and a soft place to land!🐾If you’ve ever thought about giving a senior dog a chance… this is your sign.Let’s rewrite the next chapter of Punky’s story!✨📍Based in Bryan, Texas. We offer nationwide adoptions and transport!💌Visit our website for the direct link to apply! To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.

Story
Senior Sadie is the sweetest golden girl you'll meet with easy tail wags and a gentle disposition. And those big brown eyes just beg for your attention! Sadie has lived mostly outdoors finding comfort in a sheltered garage and has lived peaceably with other dogs. A cat-free home is the safest bet for all parties, and she hasn't been exposed to young kids in her life, but her easy-going nature would probably bode well for kiddo introductions. Sadie may move more slowly thanks to some arthritic hips, but she is a ready participant when given the chance to feel the grass under her feet! Her golden years may be upon her, but the love she has to give is endless! Make the twilight of Sadie's life one to remember by opening your home and heart to an easy friend!
