Story
Meet Lowrider, a two-year-old Doxie/Pit mix. Lowrider is a small, short-legged sweetheart with a story that deserves patience, gentleness, and a fresh start. He was originally found tied to a box of puppies on the freeway and brought in by a Good Samaritan. At the time, we were at capacity and provided resources for placement elsewhere. Sadly, Lowrider and the puppies were later discovered abandoned again in a park, leaving him with a deep sense of uncertainty about the world around him.Because of everything he has been through, Lowrider is currently unsure of new situations and needs time, space, and reassurance to feel safe. He is not comfortable on a leash yet, and may have negative associations with being tethered, so slow, patient training and gentle desensitization will be very important for his future progress. For his safety, Lowrider should be considered an escape risk and must not be left outside unattended or off-leash. He is looking for a calm, secure home without young children at this time, where his boundaries will be respected and his confidence can be built slowly.Despite his past, Lowrider has a soft, deserving heart underneath it all. With time, consistency, and kindness, he has the potential to learn that people can be safe and the world doesn’t have to be scary. If you’re someone who understands that healing takes time and are willing to go at his pace, Lowrider is ready for his chance to finally feel safe and cared for. This pet is available for adoption on 6/25/2026 3:34 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
