Story
This precious girl named Minnie Mae was saved by our rescue on her last day at a rural shelter that was overcrowded. She is in a very temporary foster situation and looking for her own family. She could also benefit from a long term foster that is equipped to walk her etc. Minnie is not safe at her current foster home as they are unable to walk her and she has gotten away from them at times. She always comes back to their house, but it's not safe for her to be running loose. Minnie Mae is approximately 2 years old and appears to be a doberman/lab mix.Minnie Mae is active and playful and loves to go out for walks and explore in the yard. She also loves car rides. She is 100% house trained and has been good with all people she's met. Minnie loves her toys and will occupy herself, but also needs to get her energy out. We recommend a fenced yard where she can run. Her ideal situation would be with someone who's home alot so they can keep her busy. If interested in FOSTERING or ADOPTING this girl, please contact Julie on 919 624 0059.

Story
Ozzy is a 2-year-old Doberman. Due to an upcoming move and the need to significantly reduce our pack of five dogs, we’re hoping to find a loving home for him where he can thrive. Ozzy is everything you would expect from a Doberman – intelligent, athletic, and incredibly responsive to training. He is house trained, leash trained, and follows most commands such as sit, stay, come, and lay down. His quick learning ability makes him a joy to work with, and his energy and athleticism make him the ideal partner for hiking, long walks, or any active lifestyle. His well-mannered nature means he’s the kind of dog you can bring anywhere without worry. He just had his annual physical this month, and the vet was extremely pleased with his health, describing him as being in tremendous shape. He needs to be in a home where his is the only male dog. Has not been around young kids. Suggest if any kids in the home they should be 16+ and have experience with dogs. Happy to answer any questions!!

Story
Nox is looking for a home — he’s a story of resilience, growth, and second chances. Pulled from a shelter by our trainer at @gentlewolfdogtraining in early 2025, Nox arrived severely malnourished and clearly suffered a difficult past. Today, he’s healthy, strong, and ready for the right person to step into his world. At roughly 3 years old, Nox is a young adult with a big personality. He’s a well-traveled gentleman (no really, he flies with his foster) who thrives in nature - hiking trails, open space, quiet environments. He’s a dog who wants to lean into capable leadership, not chaos. He experienced the worst kind of cruelty but does not need babying — he needs a human who understands what structured support looks like. Someone who can stay calm, think clearly, and provide guidance, also ideally has experience with the breed. When Nox feels understood and like his person has his back, a different dog appears. He's goofy, charming, sometimes hilariously unsure of how to manage his big body, and full of potential. With other dogs, he does well under clear leadership and benefits from clear boundaries. Nox is not a beginner’s dog. His past has left marks that surface when he becomes overwhelmed, especially during transitions into rest. Nox will only be adopted to an experienced home — someone who respects what a dog with a story needs, and has the means, empathy, and skill set to continue his journey. His next chapter starts with the right person — if that sounds like you, please fill out our adoption application: dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms. If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!

Story
All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Meet Blue! he is a handsome 2½-year-old Coonhound/Doberman mix with the most stunning blue eyes you've ever seen! His soulful gaze is just the beginning of what makes him so special.  He came to rescue after his previous family made the difficult decision to surrender him because they simply didn't have the time to give him the life he deserved. Since then, he's completed a professional board-and-train program and has blossomed into a wonderful companion. He's a little shy when meeting new people, but once he realizes you're a friend, his sweet and affectionate personality shines through. He does great with people but at 70lbs would be best with older children. He loves other dogs, and would enjoy having a canine buddy—or being your one-and-only best friend. Like many dogs adjusting to a new home, he experiences a bit of separation anxiety at first, but once he settles into a routine, he does very well. He's looking for a family that will give him the consistency and love he needs to feel secure. If you enjoy the outdoors, he's ready to be your adventure partner! And if you have dog experience, thats a big plus!  Whether it's walks through the neighborhood or hiking your favorite trails, he's happiest exploring the world by your side. After a day of fun, he's more than happy to trade the trail for the couch and curl up with you for the evening. One thing you should know—he has absolutely no idea how big he is! In his mind, he's still a tiny puppy and will happily climb into your lap for cuddles. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate dog with a goofy side, beautiful blue eyes, and a heart full of love, this sweet boy could be the perfect addition to your family.   All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only. August 28, 2026, 11:53 am

Story
James was adopted into a home with other dogs but is having difficulty with sharing the home. His adopter has made the difficult decision to rehome James. He is a 2 year old Poodle/Doberman/Akita. He is neutered and was just seen at the vet for a check up. When asked to describe James, we were told he is loving, playful and quick to learn. If you are looking to add an easy companion who prefers the company of people over other animals, send us an email at support@almosthomeri.org We are asking a donation be made to the rescue in lieu of our standard adoption fee.
