Story
Originally Annabelle and her brother Cocoa came to us in July 2024. Their previous owner decided that he did not want to deal with them anymore and drove them across town and dumped them down a dead-end street by the river. Annabelle and Cocoa were on their own for three weeks before we received the call to intervene. They finally wandered up the road a few miles and found help with the Hickman Creek neighborhood. They were covered in fleas and ticks when we got them. Thankfully the neighborhood had been sitting food out for them, so they were not too underweight. Annabelle and Cocoa were adopted together fall of 2024. We received a sad message on January 1st, 2025, that the adopters wished to return them. They said their work schedule had changed to include some long hours and they believed that Annabelle and Cocoa still had too much puppy in them to be crated all day. So, once again, Annabelle and Cocoa have to suffer through another traumatic move. Yes, they are familiar with us and our pack, but make no mistake, changing homes and routines is very stressful for an animal. Originally Annabelle and her brother Cocoa came to us in July 2024. They said their work schedule had changed to include some long hours and they did not feel right kenneling them all day. So, once again, Annabelle and Cocoa have to suffer through another traumatic move. Yes, they are familiar with us and our pack, but make no mistake, changing homes and routines is very stressful for an animal. Annabelle is spayed. She is up to date on her heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention. She has been tested for heartworms and 3 tick diseases and all came back negative. Annabelle is microchipped. Annabelle weighs in full grown at 24 pounds. Annabelle is used to being around a pack, so she is definitely dog friendly. We are unsure of cats at this time. Annabelle is good around children but needs to be reminded not to jump up. We have been working with this, and she is showing good progress. Annabelle has a lot of love to give. She enjoys cuddles and kisses. She loves to be rubbed on and is a great companion animal. Annabelle has learned to sit and wait for her food to be put down but needs to be reminded with the command "wait." Annabelle is an awesome dog, with lots of love to give.

Story
Cocoa and his sister Annabelle come to us from an abandonment situation. The previous owner refused to put them in the kennel he had at his home. This allowed them to chase cars. He put them in his car and drove across town to drop them down a deserted street, by the river. They roamed the woods for three weeks until they found themselves in a small community of houses. These citizens started leaving food out for them and reached out to us. We were able to track down the previous owner and have him prosecuted for abandonment. Cocoa and his sister were adopted together fall of 2024, and at the end of December they were returned at no fault of their own. The adopters stated that they worked long hours and didn't feel they could give them the proper care, and that they did not want to kennel them all day. Cocoa is an energetic and loving little guy. He weighs in at 28 pounds. He loves his outdoor time, in a fenced in yard. He is very prey driven, which goes along with his breed. We do not think it is wise to have him around chickens or fast-moving prey. Cocoa is being housed with 7 other sanctuary and rescue dogs ranging from 6 pounds to 56 pounds. He gets along with them great. He enjoys playing with those appropriate in size. Cocoa is neutered and up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Cocoa loves hard chew bones. He is still a puppy at heart, so these are a necessity to promote healthy chewing habits. If left to his own devise, he will chew on things. Therefore, we recommend always having the hard chew bones on hand. Cocoa is fully housebroken, however, if he is left indoors for too long, he is forced to use the bathroom inside. Cocoa loves attention and would someone to cuddle with on the couch. Cocoa has no problem staying in his gated area for some time periods if need be. The previous adopters said that Cocoa is crate trained, however, we have not tested this. He is given a sufficient area in the hallway to move about and does really well. We have an extra-tall gate to keep him in. If you want a playful soul and someone to cuddle with, Cocoa is your dog. He is the best of both worlds. We are currently training Cocoa to wait until his food bowl is set down before eating it. He must have a slow-feed bowl. Due to having to not knowing when his next meal will come while he was out in the wild, he inhales his food.

Story
Firstly, the necessities of Rusty. Rusty is a 4-year-old dachshund mix. We currently have a DNA test out to see what he is mixed with. Rusty is up to date on vaccinations and is neutered. Rusty is up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Rusty weighs in at 20 lbs. From the beginning... Rusty was adopted out of an abusive situation. When he first came to his adoptive home, he was scared and didn't know what was happening. He has been in a loving home for some time now, but living situations have changed. To no fault of his own, Rusty is once again finding himself needing a new home. His adoptive parents are some of the best people I know, but they are in dire need of finding Rusty a new home. Rusty has been characterized as a wild man. He lives for excitement. Don't let that fool you, he loves his pets and snuggles, but on his terms. Rusty will need a patient person that is willing to take things at his pace. After all, he did come from a very abusive relationship with his first owners. Rusty loves his chew toys, but they have to be very durable. No rope or squishy toys for him. He is a heavy chewer, on his toys. He has not been known to chew other things in the house. Because of the abuse suffered by his first owner, Rusty is afraid of loud noises, so during thunderstorms and fireworks, he must be kept inside (unless on a leash or in a fence when he goes to the bathroom). Rusty does excellent if given his anti-anxiety medication just before events and does fine through the event. Rusty is fully housebroken. Rusty loves his outside time when he goes to the bathroom but enjoys basking in the sun through windows of the house or in front of a patio door. We do not recommend Rusty be placed in a home with small children. He will not be vicious to one, but if he is roughly delt with, he will nip. Rusty loves to end his night with cuddles and kisses while sleeping in bed with his humans. Rusty is an all-around indoor dog. He enjoys his time outdoors but prefers the indoors. Rusty has now fully integrated to a scheduled feeding to help rid him of some pounds, and he is doing great. He gets crated to eat, and has no problems with it. His compadre is a slow eater, and Rusty will help himself to his food if left out. Therefore, we just avoid the situation and separate. If interested, you may start the process by filling out an application on our website at www.voicelessmomentsdogsanctuary.com.
