SCHNAUZER MIX AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
River has been a beloved part of the Kiko family since his first adoption in 2018. He came back to our care in late 2021 and has had three adoption attempts since then. Now 9 years young, we are still hopeful that River will finally find his forever home.
River has been cared for by fosters Judith and Philippe for a few weeks now, and they have enjoyed working with him. Indeed, after just one day, they already saw plenty to love. They immediately noted that River is incredibly affectionate, curious about everything around him, and was very happy to be part of their household.
After the first week, Judith and Philippe reported that River started to settle in more and began to show an interest in playing! They also quickly discovered that River can be a little too enthusiastic with fabric toys, so they've found a great balance by offering him more durable rubber toys instead. Luckily, his love of ripping things apart hasn't translated into destructive behaviour—and despite his enthusiasm, he's very polite during play and gets along very well with the resident Corgi.
River was recently treated to a spa day and was a star! Next was a checkup at the vet where he weighed in at 20.6 kg (about 45 pounds), his vaccinations were updated and he got a clean bill of health

Overall, River is a loving, playful, cuddly boy who loves belly rubs. He is food-motivated and responds well to directions, which makes him a great candidate for positive reinforcement training. River is a wonderful companion at home: he is fully potty trained, does not beg and is not destructive. He can be easily overwhelmed at times with the sounds and activity of city life and can be reactive on walks. Either a home in a rural or semi-rural area, or a patient person willing to work with him would suit him best. River would be compatible with a well-mannered dog and would prefer a quiet home without cats and children.
