Story
Hi, I'm Eloy, a big 92 lb. double pirate Dogo Argentino currently chilling in Tampa, FL with a heart full of love and some rough patches behind me. Mid-October, I was rescued from the countryside around Ft. Meade, FL, after a kind family found me wandering and took me in to make sure I was safe. I wasn’t in great shape—I could barely open my eyes because they hurt so much. Turns out, I had bilateral entropion, which meant my eyelids were causing me pain and damage. It got so bad I didn’t feel like eating. Thankfully, the vet rushed me in for surgery, and I’m already feeling so much better. I also found out I have heartworms, which wasn’t a surprise, but the good news is I’ve already started my treatment. It’ll be a few months of taking it easy, but I’m already on the road to recovery. Now that I’m safe and more comfortable at the farm kennels, my personality is starting to show. I’m around 5 to 6 years old, quick to learn, and I’m definitely a big fan of affection! Scratch my ears, rub my belly, and I’m a happy guy. I just started giving out kisses and showing off my big bear hugs, too! So far, I’ve been pretty calm around the other dogs at the kennel. I’m not looking for trouble like some do and, honestly, just taking my time getting used to everything while my body heals. My vision’s still a bit blurry, but it seems to be improving every day. I love my walks, mealtimes, and treats—and I keep my kennel neat and clean (unlike some of the other pups here, if you know what I mean). I’m expected to fully recover from my eye surgery and beat the heartworms, too, thanks to early treatment. Just six days after surgery, I’ve already got great energy! For the next few months, I need to keep it low-key as I heal, so I’d love a calm home where I can chill, go on walks, and explore a little. The team here thinks I might have been a hunter before because I perk up when I catch a whiff of wild boar! But mostly, I’m just your typical awesome Dogo Argentino looking for a place to call home. I have basic training and get along with older kids. If you think you could be that special foster or forever home for me, I’d love to meet you! Apply to adopt: dcdogos.org/adopt

Story
**Hey There! I'm Liza: Your Future Comedic Companion!**  Also, I am the DC Dogos Rescue COVER MODEL for our 2025 Calendar! I will do autographs by request :) Hi, I’m Liza, and let me tell you, I’m one hilarious, young, and healthy gal! At just about a year old, currently in sunny Tampa, FL, I’m bursting with playful energy and, well, still learning my manners. But hey, who needs manners when you’re this cute? I’ve already mastered the art of giving you my paw for hotdogs or other tasty treats. I’m working on meeting new friends and, oh boy, am I smitten with Simon! He’s just as wild and fun as I am. My humans are helping me socialize with other dogs, and they think I’ll do great. They recently gave me this weird ball that makes noises – I kicked it around like a soccer pro! My zoomies, especially in the mornings, are a sight to behold. I’ll run straight at you and then punk you out at the last second! I’m super fast, so a yard would be perfect for me to stretch my legs. I need an active home that’s ready to keep up with my energy and help me with my training. I love going on leash walks now – I used to be like a fish out of water, but now I’m a dream to walk! My current humans think I’d be awesome at agility work. I’m athletic and would thrive with someone dedicated to my training. I’ve come a long way since they found me, and a dog friend would be great for me too. I have so much fun with Simon, and I’m sure I’d love another buddy just as much. When I first met men, I wasn’t a fan, but with some training and patience, I’ve started giving them kisses! That was a huge step for me, and I keep hitting new milestones every day. I’m pretty incredible, if I do say so myself. I was one of five dogs found dumped in Naples, FL, and the shelter picked us all up. We don’t know if we were from the same person or related, but I’m so grateful to have a second chance at life. My past is behind me, and I’m ready to start a new chapter with a loving family. So, if you’re looking for a playful, funny, and affectionate companion, I’m your girl. I can’t wait to meet you and make you laugh every day! Apply to adopt: dcdogos.org/adopt

Story
Marvin is absolutely amazing!! He is currently living in Tampa at the farm kennels and just the happiest dude on the planet. He loves the excitement but he also loves to chill and get lovins'. He seems to have a solid temperament and doesn't like to cause any trouble like some boy dogos tend to do! When challenged by the other blockheads through the kennels he laughs and runs off to do something else. This boy is a dream and quite possibly a unicorn dogo. We will keep you posted on how his dog intros go! Dogos are a wonderful breed but we urge anyone interested to dig in and do a lot of research before deciding if they are a good fit for your home. They require a lot of attention and training with them never ends! Boundaries must be enforced and they often need reminders as they push past boundaires you set! Dogos are loving, kind and gentle but don't mistake that for weakness because they are equally powerful and intense as well! Everyone in the home must be on board with having a dogo and play a major role in their daily routines and training. Yes it is work, but the rewards are ten-fold! Lazy homes don't work for dogos as they need stimulation, exercise, and lots of attention too during their younger years. Our goal in rescue is to be as transparent as we can about each and every dog plus make sure new families really understand the needs of a dogo! apply to adopt: dcdogos.org/adopt

Story
Meet Guin Some of you may remember the two sisters (Rory & Lorelai) from DeKalb County Shelter in Georgia who were once posted in search of foster homes. They came into the shelter as strays, both were emaciated and in a neglected state. Although no foster offers came through at the time, both girls were eventually adopted by the public. Recently, Lorelai now lovingly called Guin, was surrendered to us when it became clear she wasn’t the right fit for her adopter’s pack. Guin was the more reserved of the two sisters and often relied on her sibling for reassurance, so being without her was understandably difficult at first. She spent time in temporary boarding, where she was met with patience, kindness, and love. During that time, Guin began to decompress, settle in, and form a trusting bond with her caretaker. Shortly after, she transitioned into a loving foster home, and that’s when her transformation truly began. This beautiful girl has blossomed far faster than we ever imagined. Once shy and unsure, Guin is now a happy, increasingly confident dog who is coming into her own. Guin is thriving in her foster home, where her canine siblings have helped show her the ropes. She approaches new experiences with growing confidence, and her sweet personality shines brighter every day. Her foster parents adore watching her learn how to be a dog and genuinely enjoy life, she has a gentle, soulful heart. We estimate Guin to be around 3 years old. Guin has formed a special bond with her male Dogo foster brother and would do best in a home with another friendly dog, preferably a male. She’s wonderful with children, walks nicely on a leash, and is both house and crate-trained. Her history with cats is unknown. Guin is ready for her forever home, one where her soft heart and growing confidence can continue to flourish. 🐾 Apply to adopt: dcdogos.org/adopt Location: Loxahatchee, FL

Story
Meet Chloe – the sweetest little nugget! Born in a litter of five, Chloe was the only puppy born deaf, but that hasn’t slowed her down one bit. As of 11/22/25, she’s 9 weeks old and already showing the world just how smart, cuddly, and delightfully sassy she can be. Chloe currently lives with her brother and two kitty roommates, and she’s doing wonderfully with all of them. She’s confident, curious, and thrives on affection and routine. Because she is deaf, she’ll need a family dedicated to positive training methods and visual cues, she’s already proving how quickly she learns! We’re looking for a home with experience with deaf dogs or Dogos, so Chloe can continue growing into the amazing girl she’s meant to be. She is currently located in Clearwater, FL.  Adopters will be responsible for transport.  If you’re ready to add a special girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart to your family, Chloe may be the perfect match. 💗🐾 Apply to adopt: dcdogos.org/adopt Location: Clearwater, FL

Story
Julian’s story is one of heartbreak and resilience. He and his siblings were abandoned by their breeder as young pups and left to survive on the streets for over a year. The neighborhood became their lifeline, kind residents left out food and tried to help, and over time the dogs slowly learned to trust the people who kept them alive. Everyone knew these pups and hoped they would one day find safety and love. Once animal control picked them up, we stepped in right away and brought Julian and his brother into our rescue. To no surprise, both boys tested positive for heartworms, but they’ve since completed treatment and are now healthy, safe, and ready for forever homes. ________________________________________ About Julian Julian is an incredibly sweet, affectionate Velcro boy who loves being close to his people. He’s smart, eager to please, and already learning basic obedience. He walks nicely on a leash and is both crate-trained and house-trained. We estimate Julian to be around 1.5 – 2 years old. He’s vocal in the cutest ways, he’ll let you know when he needs to go out or when he’s asking for attention. Julian has a calm, easygoing temperament and would do best in a home with a consistent routine, daily exercise, and mental enrichment. He does well with friendly female dogs and has shown neutral behavior toward other dogs while at the shelter, though he hasn’t had full interactions due to his heartworm treatment recovery. Like most Dogos, he would do best in a home with the opposite sex. Because we don’t know his history with children, he’ll need a home without young kids. ________________________________________ Julian has survived the hardest chapter of his life. Now he just needs someone to give him the loving, secure home he’s been waiting for. Located in Port St Lucie, FL Apply to adopt: dcdogos.org/adopt Location: Port St. Lucie, FL
