Hi, I'm Elsa and I'm a sweet girl! To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org or download and email it to crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com. We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and officially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone. Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess! Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing. We are happy to adopt out-of-state (and even out of the country!) but transportation for the adopted pet is the responsibility of the new pet owner. If you cannot adopt a pet at this time but would like to support our rescue, please click on the "Sponsor a Pet" button. Your donation will help feed the dogs, cats, small animals, and horses at CARE. Please email at crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com or call us at (864)972-9906 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligible for 10% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. For more information about CARE and to see our adoption application, go to our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org

Story
Meet Oliver Oliver needs to get out of the shelter as soon as he can! He is a young handsome grey tabby/Maine Coon mix. He is a beautiful boy with a sweet, sweet face. He's led a hard life. Oliver grew up behind our shelter and we recently were able to catch him and take him into our care. His fur was so matted that he had to be shaved, and now has the (temporary) regal bearing of a lion with short hair except for his luxurious head and tail. His hair is already starting to grow out and he will be a beauty. Unfortunately, Oliver is FIV positive. This presents no danger to humans or other pets, but he'll need to be the only kitty in the house or he can live with other FIV positive kitties. FIV positive kitties lead normal lives, but should remain indoors where they can be kept safe and their health monitored, which for Oliver is perfect. He loves to be with his person. From his person he welcomes ear scratches and gentle petting. Because he has been feral, we were actually surprised at how quickly he adjusted to being loved and handled. It's as if he has been waiting to be rescued! He's a quiet companion. Currently, Oliver is in an isolation area because of his condition. He seems to enjoy watching other kitties play, but he would rather be snoozing on a lap or hanging close by. Oliver could use a loving person and a quiet home to help him thrive. Perhaps you'll be the one to open your heart and home to him. Please also check out Eugene, he is another Maine Coon mix who is also FIV positive and we would love for these two to be adopted together! Call 706-865-4135 for information on additional health services provided as part of the adoption fee. If you can offer a safe indoor home to our cat/kitten, submit an application online https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/cat-adoption-application Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don't receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Our shelter is currently closed to the general public as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. However, for approved adopters we are making appointments to meet and adopt your fur baby. Location: 4823 Helen Hwy., Sautee, GA 30571, Phone: 706-865-4135 Email: smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net Our shelter in Sautee GA is located about 3 miles south of the alpine town of Helen in northeast GA.
