Name: Midnight and Solo Age: young and adult DOB: 3-11-23 and 2 years Weight: 7 lbs and 9 lbs Gender: Male Breed: Domestic Medium Hair/ Domestic Short Hair Tabby mix   Coat Length: Medium/short Color: Black/ Dog friendly: Yes, with a proper intro Cat friendly: Yes  Child Friendly: Yes, older  teenage children, please Litter Box Trained: Yes  Temperament: observant, talkative, toy  connoisseur,  playful,  observant  Energy Level: Moderate  Adoption Fee: $175+tax fee includes both kitties    To adopt, go to: www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html    From the Foster Family:  Midnight and Solo are brothers from another mother... Midnight was a young kitten when he arrived and Solo is still a kitten at heart. Solo has blossomed over the past year being in our home after being rescued from a locked dumpster, freezing and alone-- from shuddering each time I tried to pet him to being the welcome crew whenever someone new comes to the house and rubbing on their legs showing affection. He still isn't a fan of being picked up (understandably), but he is always near and is first in line for treats and food time. He jumps around the house parkour-style and sounds like an elephant stomping around even though he only weighs 9lbs. Midnight is the talker of the house. He is always mewing and meowing to me, at me, and around me throughout the day. He loves to play and his favorite "toy" to get his paws on is a roll of paper towels. While Midnight does not enjoy being picked up either, he does love to lay on the couch with me. He will knead the couch blanket while he purrs and purrs, demanding pets and snuggles before curling up for a nap, he's a very loving boy once he warms up to people.   About us: Did we just become best friends? Yep! It happened just like that! Midnight was a scared little kitten when he got here, but I let him know that our foster mom was a very reliable food lady and loved us all a lot and soon enough he started to settle in. Our foster mom knew that both of us were a little scared about new situations, so she decided that we'd do best if we could always be with our built-in best friend, so we get to be adopted together! A 2-for-1! I'm jazzed about that because you can always find us together. We eat together, we nap on the kitty heating pads together, we play together, and we get into shenanigans together. If you want to come to meet me and my little buddy, Midnight, fill out an app and chat with our foster mom to set up a time! Midnight and I will be here waiting!--Solo April 24, 2024, 12:14 pm

Since being with my foster family my skittishness has lessened. I have started being more comfortable being on someone's lap and being petted.  I definitely would feel most comfortable in a quiet  environment.  Other cats would probably be okay since I have been with my sister since the farm.  I would be okay going with my sister Kiki to a family but we'd both be just fine with having different families.  I require a soft bed on a cat tree before the window. Meet Jacob! This fluffy fellow is shy and sweet.Jacob likes calm and quiet people who pet him and show him love. He's got scarring on his nose, likely from fighting with other kitties at his previous home. At the shelter, he has been timid and avoids other cats. He may do best as an only cat, or with cats who will be nice to him.Jacob will show you his loving personality once you take him home and he feels safe. He'd like to get out of the shelter soon, as he is frightened by the commotion and other cats.Jacob is about 1.5 years old, neutered, and vaccinated. If interested in adopting this sweetie, please submit an adoption application at watonwan.weebly.com_________________Please Note: We ask that an application be filled out before coming to the shelter. Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
UPDATE: Peepers does not have to wear diapers when he is on a raw diet.  His stools are firm, and no mess is made.  Peepers has been leaving his backend alone now.  He certainly can wear diapers if preferred as he occasionally plays hard enough to squeeze out a small, dry, odorless turd.  Otherwise Peepers is good at heading to the litterbox and depositing them there.  He just doesn't have a sphincter to prevent play from squeezing an occasional turd out.  We consider his diapers an easy option for the dear boy.   Peepers is an amazing young man, one year old, who arrived in our care as a tiny kitten with anal atresia due to trauma (cockleburs).  Unfortunately, the first surgeon didn't recognize his condition and expanded his fistula.  The next surgical team combined the original anus and the fistula by cutting through the anal sphincter.  That means that Peepers doesn't have a functional anal sphincter.  But given our main goal was to give him a functional "poop chute" we are happy with the outcome.  Peepers does take a twice daily medication.  He runs and plays and loves to chase and rumble with other felines.  He's comfortable with our resident dog.  Peepers does tend to bond to one person, but he did fabulously well with all his vet visits and staff fell in love with him.  Peepers has been neutered and vaccinated against rabies and distemper.  He tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia.  Peepers is available for adoption for $50 (our rescue survives on donations).  Peepers is NOT declawed.   Please note that Peepers is located in New Prague, MN. 1700+ adoptions and counting. . .Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 13, 2024, 12:05 pm

Story
Meet Mabes! Mabes and her bestie Babes came to us after being left in a tote outside the shelter door. We believe Mabes was born in November of 2017, and would do best in a calmer home with older children or adults only and her bestie Babes. Mabes is a gentle soul that is very scared of shelter life, and spends most of her time hiding, and snuggling with her friend Babes. After she gets to know you more, she may lean in to your hand when you give her chin scratches, or put her booty up slightly once or twice when given tailbone scratches. Unfortunately Mabes has tested positive for F.I.V. and will need to be kept indoors and be the only kitty in the home, or share her home with other F.I.V. positive kitties. F.I.V. is not contagious to any human or other animals besides cats, and does not require medication of any kind. Mabes can't wait to find a home to call her very own with her best friend Babes, and put shelter life behind her! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.
