Story
Andrew Dice Cat, or Dice as he is affectionately known, started out with a pretty tough life as a stray in Chicago. When he came into foster care he took a little while to learn the ropes of an indoor kitty, but thanks to lots of love from his foster family he is now a sweet and independent boy with the best manners! Dice is a quieter guy who really appreciates the finer things in life, lots of tasty treats and snoozing the afternoon away perched on his cat tree. Currently Dice lives in an adult-only foster home and really thrives with people who are attuned to his cues, letting you know when he is ready to play, when he wants pets, and when he is ready for some quiet time. When Dice gets to know you and feels comfortable in his space, he really loves to play and interact with people! He shows his affection by giving head bumps and rubbing up on your leg. And if Dice decides you're a part of his trusted circle of humans he may even start to groom you! When he gets really happy, he has a great purr motor. And if you have some treats on you, you better believe you will be Dice's best friend! He is a treat fiend and is always ready for a snack. Dice's favorite toy is a wand toy called "da bird" which he loves to chase around and show how fast he is. Dice’s ideal home is with experienced cat owners who are happy to take their time as he learns to trust them. He does give signals when he is getting overwhelmed, and would love a family who respects these signals and gives him space when he needs it. After Dice gets the chance to decompress in his new home, we know he will show you his wonderful personality! Dice has learned a lot from watching the other cats at his foster’s home, and would love a cat companion who is able to learn and respect his boundaries. Currently Dice hangs out with 6 easy going adult kitties, so he would love to have other calm adult kitty pals or sweet younger kitty pals in his new home. Dice has not been exposed to dogs at his foster home, but as he can be a little shy we are not certain he would be as successful in a home with an energetic dog. Andrew Dice Cat has been in foster care for almost a year, and we have no idea why nobody is scooping up this handsome, independent, and sweet kitty! Dice deserves the best forever family and whoever gets this hunk is in for a lifetime of love from this guy! Meet Buttons, the epitome of feline grace with a dash of mischievous charm! This stunning girl may let her siblings take the lead, but she's no stranger to the cozy comforts of cuddles and companionship. Picture a beautiful cat who knows when to be the quiet observer and when to be your snuggle buddy—that's Buttons for you. Her caution at first is just a testament to her thoughtful nature. Once she deems you worthy of her trust, Buttons transforms into a sweet soul who loves nothing more than being right by your side. The dance of patience and warmth reveals the depth of her gentle character. She is playful and likes to jump up really high and grab any toys that are hanging over the edge of the couch. This mischevious girl once climbed into a kitty litter container and couldn't be found, a search party was formed to look for her throughout the whole house! Buttons might prefer a quieter household but she is used to the busy house here with all her siblings making a racket. She could adapt to a more active household. She's a sweet girl who would do great with kids, dogs, or other cats. Buttons needs to be adopted with another young kitty like her. Alternatively, she'd be thrilled to join a household with another playful feline friend. Buttons isn't just a cat; she's a delightful companion ready to add a touch of elegance and a whole lot of fun to your life. Patches is a sweet soul who loves his kitty buddies! Patches is a good, gentle boy who's a little takes some time to warm up, he is a total sweetheart.  He doesn't mind pets, but his foster mom has to find a safe spot, like a bathroom, that he can have. Maybe someone can build this guy a little tiny home that he can camp out in if needed!  He is HUGELY food motivated, so if you offer him yummy food (especially ham), he'll be your friend for life!  Though not a cuddler or lap sitter,  you will be able to pet him if you are patient and loving and get him to trust you. He is so special ♥♥♥♥♥ ! What are some of his favorite things?  Watching cat TV, playing with fuzzy toys, lazer pointers and walking alongside his foster mom's kitty.  In fact, Patches loves all cats and kittens!  I guess you could call him the kitty whisperer! And cuteness quotient?  Off the charts when he jumps in the air while playing with or chasing other kitties! Patches would do well in a quiet, possibly adults only home.  He has not been around dogs, but would absolutely need another cat or cats to take care of and play with!   If you want a sweet and funny boy, have the time and patience to get to know him and gain mutual trust, you couldn't find a better fur boy! Sedona is a very curious kitten-ninja. She loves to chase a laser pointer so much, that she will run up the wall using whatever there is to give her a leg up. Legend has it that she can also scale ceilings, but this has not been confirmed. Sedona is such a kitten-ninja, she finds hard-to-see places to nap occasionally! She loves getting pets from her human/s at her own pace. Once she decides you’re friendly, she is all about the pets. Sedona has no problem with other cats and a loud dog. Sedona needs to be adopted into a home with another kitty friend, and if you don't already have a kitty in your home we will happily suggest a pal for her! Apply for this cutie pie! Meet Boomer! Boomer is one of the most mild-mannered cats that you will ever meet.  He eats, sleeps and cuddles throughout the day.  He is always ready to greet you upon your arrival with some delightful conversation and some good yoga stretches!  Boomer would prefer a quieter home environment and would do well with older children.  As he loves every human he has ever met, he would thrive in a home where someone is home most of the day. He has such a laidback personality that he will most likely get along with another cat, and perhaps a dog, if given the right introduction.  He will also shine brightly as the only pet in your home! This young man does have some gastrointestinal issues and needs to be on a special raw diet.  He LOVES his raw food and it has resolved his issues! He will need to continue on this diet   Boomer is quite the lap cat and a great office buddy during the day!  He tends to be pretty independent through the middle of the night, which is a huge plus as we all love an uninterrupted good night's sleep, including Boomer.  He is always welcoming to strangers and is eager to cuddle up to the closest warm lap in the room!  He also enjoys his window watching time and is fascinated by all the sights he is able to see below. If you are interested in meeting Boomer, please apply at the link below.  This is one happy feline that will provide you with unwavering companionship! Story
Handsome and quiet Pea is a gorgeous house panther, who started out in foster care as a stray kitten with his 4 siblings. When he first entered foster care, Pea was not quite sure what do do inside. He was a little nervous about the big environment and the unfamiliar smells and sights. Now that he's had time getting to know how nice it is to be warm, well fed, and cared for, Pea is a very appreciative guy! Pea is more of an observer most of the time, just hanging back and watching the other kitties do their thing, but if you get out a feather toy then you'll likely entice him to come play as well! He loves playing with other cats and kittens and you'll catch him chasing them to get them to play. He also really gets with people who give him his space and allow him to approach on his own at first. After the trust is build Pea will come up to you asking for some pets and rubs. Something ver unique about Pea and his siblings is that they throw their tails forward instead of backwards causing a ring shape to form. Pea recently lost his brother Mango due to unfortunate circumstances which has left him a bit lonely and in need of a companion cat.  Pea does well with humans and other kitties, often snuggling up with either for a quick cat nap. In his forever home, Pea would ideally go to a home with another kitty pal for him to befriend and a family that will give him time to adjust and blossom. He is experienced with dogs in his foster home. We hope sweet Pea can finally find their forever family. He deserves it!! Story
This is Splashy, so named because her rescuer thought that her markings looked like she had paint splashed on her! She's totally adorable but still somewhat timid. Her foster mom is able to pick her up and hold her close and pet her. No purring yet. We just think she needs more time. Or, some cats just aren't big purrers. Splashy is very bonded with her friendly brother Mr. Whiskers and having him around is teaching her to be more confident. They would ideally like to be adopted together. They make a perfect ready-made pair. Behaviorally and socially, it’s best to adopt kittens in pairs, or into a home with a compatible playful cat. Kittens really need a feline playmate in their forever home…and then they can get to play, and snuggle while you're not home, wrestle with each other instead of with your ankles, and grow up with an always-available companion. Bored cats can become destructive cats. If you are only interested in adopting a single kitten, and you’re home most of the day, and able to spend interactive time with a kitten, we may consider adopting out a single kitten. We usually prefer that they be 4 months or older. But each application will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Many of our kitten litters may also be able to be mixed ‘n matched to make a pair if they are not particularly bonded with a sibling. Each foster home knows the kittens' personalities best, and we follow their recommendations for single placements or mix/matching. Splashy's estimated date of birth is 7-1-22, and her adoption fee of $175 includes: vet exam, Feleuk/FIV test, FVRCP (distemper combo) vaccination, routine deworming, flea control, microchip and spay. The combined discounted adoption fee for both Splashy and Mr. Whiskers is $285.

Meet Mr. Whiskers, an adorable, loving, purr machine. He's a beautiful gray tuxedo with long white whiskers. He greets his foster mom as soon as she opens the door and then walks along with her. Story
LuluBelle is a petite, curious, playful kitty with a gorgeous sleek coat on her back and the softest, fluffiest, bunnylike fur on her belly. She loves to roll over on her back and get belly & chest rubs, as well as ear 'skritches'. She also loves to play with cat teasers, nail files (when left unattended) and her foster sister Peapod. All of Lulu's brothers were adopted in early summer 2023, and another foster sister she really loved to play and snuggle with was also adopted. Poor Lulu kept getting left behind because compared to her siblings she was a little shy. One important note about Lulu is that as much as she enjoys human playing and petting, she is not a fan of being picked up or carried and definitely seeks petting on her terms. This doesn't mean she's not social - she's almost always in the same room as her foster mom and greets most people at/near the front door. She's just not going to be a "carry around like a doll" pet - to be fair, most cats aren't, but if you're looking for a constantly snuggly, needy cat, she's not your match. She is, however, a great companion, easy to please and low maintenance, and when she's ready for petting she's very cute about it - she meows and follows her mom around making little noises and collapsing onto her back to show her belly until she gets what she wants. She's also lived with dogs, and has never been phased by them. Her current foster home has a 65 lb active dog and they have always gotten along great. As long as your dog likes cats, she'd be perfect with a home with dogs. Behaviorally and socially, it’s best to adopt young cats in pairs, or into a home with a compatible playful cat. Kittens really need a feline playmate in their forever home…and then they can get to play, and snuggle while you're not home, wrestle with each other instead of with your ankles, and grow up with an always-available companion. If you're looking for a ready-made pair, please consider her foster-mate Peapod who she gets along great with. Lulu's approximate date of birth is 3-24-23, and her adoption fee is $175, which includes: vet exam, Feleuk/FIV test, FVRCP (distemper combo) vaccinations, routine dewormings, flea control, microchip and spay,

Story
This is the beautiful Loofah, the matriarch of the Klean Kitties litter. Her kittens have now all been adopted and she's ready for her forever home. She's a beautiful long, lanky, tortoiseshell girl. Her coloring is quite nice. Instead of blotches of orange and cream like a lot of torties, she has mostly fine streaks of the lighter colors in her dark fur. A very 1970-80s “frosted” look! Lighter fur around her eyes helps them standout and she does have one very cute cream-colored paw. Loofah has a nice and friendly personality. She doesn't particularly like the other cats in her foster home so is kept in a bedroom by herself when she is not able to be supervised. When she's out of the bedroom, she doesn't hide at all and comes when she is called. She's great with all people, not at all shy, and will suck up all the attention you can give her. She loves to hang out with her foster mom when she's in her home office working on the computer, and she sleeps nicely with her foster mom or in one of her cat beds at night. She's perfect with the litter box and good with using pole scratchers. Loofah would be happiest as an only child. If you're looking for a fantastic new feline companion to have a one-on-one relationship with, come check this awesome girl out! We estimate Loofah to be no older than 2 years old, and her adoption fee of $175 includes: Feleuk/FIV test (neg.), FVRCP (distemper combo) vaccination, rabies vaccination, deworming, microchip and spay.

Story
Hi, I'm Venom. Yes, a horrible name but apparently popular in the SpiderMan comic culture and my prior owner thought it was a good idea to name me that. So for 8 years I've been saddled with this awful name that really doesn't fit me at all! I like to think of myself more as a cool guy, like a Cosmo or Fonzi or Jules. My prior owner dumped me at their vet clinic when I didn't fit into their life anymore. The nice people at the vet clinic checked me out and gave me vaccines and everything and called me an "almost senior" but pronounced me healthy, even though I'm middle-aged at 8 years old. They tried to find me a new home, but I was scared and just wasn't showing very well there. I lived at the vet clinic for 10 months until a kind new vet tech took me home to foster me and give me a little more normal life. I can be shy at first but once I know you I'm VERY friendly. It only took me about a month to acclimate, and now I'm out and part of the family all of the time! Mind you, this family even has barking dogs and active children. But I now sleep with my foster mom and I let everyone pick me up! I've become quite the cuddly social butterfly. I like to play with one of the resident cats but I think overall I would do just fine as an only cat. You know, bond with you one-on-one. So if you think you have room in your home and your heart for a big ol' handsome guy like me, I'd be very grateful if you'd take me home and make me part of YOUR family - you know, like forever this time. I'm here patiently waiting for you, but can't wait to meet you so you can make me your own - oh, and change my name! Venom's adoption fee of $85 includes: Vet exam, FeLeuk/FIV viral test (neg.), FVRCP (distemper combo) vaccination, rabies vaccination, deworming, microchip, and he is neutered.

Story
Meet Galinda, the fabulous feline diva with a twist of whimsy! Galinda, the sassy 7-year-old Chicagoan, strutted into our lives from the Windy City, and she's here to make your heart sing - in a solo performance, of course. Why? Because she's the star of her own show and prefers to have all the limelight! Galinda may have been handed the news of Feline Leukemia Virus, but she's not letting that rain on her furry parade. In fact, she's determined to live her best nine lives and prove that a diagnosis is just a minor plot twist in her captivating tale. With a personality as relaxed as a cat in a hammock on a sunny day, Galinda will enchant you with her laid-back charm. She might not be a lap cat, but she'll be your loyal companion, curling up at the foot of your bed each night, sharing dreams and maybe a purr or two. Kids? She loves them! She's all about those chin scratches and chin-wagging about life's mysteries. Her obsidian fur is smoother than a smooth jazz solo, and she takes her litter box duty as seriously as a Hollywood star preparing for a red carpet event. Don't worry about her getting too curious about your dining table - Galinda knows her manners. And when it's playtime, she's the queen of lasers and the empress of string/feather toys. While she's a solo act in the feline department, Galinda might consider sharing the stage with a calm canine co-star. After all, it's all about harmony, darling. Are you ready to give Galinda her big break outside the shelter walls? If so, drop us a line at cats@heartlandanimalshelter.org to schedule an audition - err, we mean, an appointment. And did we mention that her adoption fee is sponsored? She's practically a Hollywood A-lister without the diva attitude.
