Story
I'm Moxi, a 7 year old sweetie with a little extra weight on me. Although I'm quite timid at first, once I warm up and feel comfortable in my surroundings - I love to cuddle! I may need to dial it back on the treats, but my personality makes all the difference. I like other cats as well as dogs, as long as I have time to adjust.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kate was adopted from us in 2015 when she was just a few years old, but unfortunately her owners moved out of state and into a new living situation that prohibits pets. So Kate came back to Safe Haven last year as a senior cat now, and we readied her for adoption - which included having a much needed "kittie dental" appointment that found her to need all her teeth pulled. However she has totally recovered from that appointment, and Kate's oral health is much better now and she is back to eating her senior kibble food just fine!  At her vet appointment it was also discovered that Kate now has a heart murmur, so she is on daily oral medication to help her heart function properly. Luckily this medication is a common human medication (Atenolol) that is very inexpensive, so this shouldn't slow down her adoptability one bit!   Since Kate is now a senior girl, she is looking for a quality senior cat home (ie quiet, peaceful, and plenty of relaxing views out windows) and it seems like Kate may be happiest if she was the only kitty in her new home. Since she is currently our oldest resident, she holds a special place in many hearts - so much so that one of our volunteers has sponsored her adoption fee! So all Kate needs now is for a potential adopter to open up their home and heart to let Kate in! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 10, 2024, 3:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hermione was adopted as a kitten in '21 and had a happy home until her owner had health problems and needed to return her.  She has grown into a gorgeous cat, that is affectionate and seeks attention from almost every person that enters her room. If she doesn't come running up for attention, she may be having a day where she sometimes prefers to be quiet and looks like she is deep in thought - we just think she is dreaming of her forever home! These are the moments that we have found it's better to let her come to you, because she doesn't usually love to be pet when she is trying to nap. Most volunteers get to know the fun, loving side of Hermione - the one that shows she is quite the spunky, sweet girl!  Hermione definitely does have boundaries though, such as not enjoying her hindquarters being touched, and can also be a handful at vet appointments. Since she can be a bit unpredictable to over-handling or to someone not paying attention to her body language, we feel she would prefer a quieter home without young kids. However a family with a school aged kiddo that is fairly cat savvy would enjoy her playful side, and like most cats she will lose it over a wand toy! Hermione is moderately active, but also enjoys lots of naps throughout the day. She has experience living with a small dog, but would likely prefer to remain the only cat.  We just know the perfect family is out there for Hermione - and the last bit of great news is that her adoption fee has been sponsored, so all she needs now is someone to give her that chance to be the great cat that her previous owner knows her to be! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 10, 2024, 3:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mia had a home for many years, but needed to be surrendered due to family developing allergies. She is very friendly, and will be very clear about when she wants attention and when she doesn't. Mia loves to look out the window and watch the birds or lay on top of a cat tower to oversee her surroundings. She is full of spunk and sass with a unique and curious personality. Mia does not love shelter life; she would prefer to be in a quieter home where she can saunter about and observe the world on her own terms. Mia has previously lived with another cat and also enjoyed a roommate in her time at Safe Haven. She would do well with the right flatmate - but not just any cat would do. If you have a cat at home, we recommend a slow introduction. Mia would also do well as an only cat, keeping all the attention for herself. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 10, 2024, 3:11 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Peanut was originally found as a stray in the nearby town of Oxford in the Fall of 2022.  The family that found her had noticed Peanut was urinating frequently, so they could tell she needed help. This kind family asked us to take in Peanut at Safe Haven, but as they waited for space to open up at the shelter, they took her into their care, and made an appointment at their vet where she was initially diagnosed with an Urinary Tract Infection.  She was placed on an antibiotic, and eventually an over the counter kibble that helps support and maintain a healthy urinary tract, and the family ended up falling in love with this cuddle bug and decided to adopt her themselves. Over the next several months Peanut was still struggling with random bouts of straining to urinate in her litter box, so the family took her back to their vet where her diagnosis was upgraded to Feline Interstital Cystitis, also known as Feline Idiopathic Cystitis, or FIC. This family was not able to continue her medical care at this time, so she was returned to Safe Haven in the Fall of 2023. We have done some more advanced vetting (including an ultrasound of her abdomen and urinary tract system) and feel we have Peanut on a stable health routine now, and she is ready for adoption. This FIC condition is basically an inflammation of the bladder in cats.  Left untreated this inflammation can make the walls of the bladder thick, and make it more difficult to urinate, which mimics an infection however no bacteria is present.  It is important that Peanut continues to receive care for this FIC condition, because without that the FIC could progress and cause an obstruction - which would make it impossible for Peanut to urinate.  So this care includes a prescription food and medication cost (>$50 every few months) and is something that potential adopters need to be comfortable with providing, but we feel Peanut is definitely worth it and she will kindly repay her family with a lifetime of the best cuddles they could ever ask for!   Luckily for Peanut she is one of the sweetest cats, and she seeks attention and love - volunteers say she would literally lay in your arms all day long, and especially loves to curl up around your shoulders and purr as she cuddles with you! Peanut currently has another feline roommate, so we feel like she could live with another cat if proper introductions and initial monitoring are done - however she would also be perfectly content to be an only cat in her forever home. Peanut has also been around dogs and older kids - but we also know that FIC symptoms have been linked to stress, so a quieter home may be the best fit for Peanut.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 10, 2024, 3:11 pm
