Calvin a été très chamboulé par son arrivée au refuge. Il était extrêmement stressé et essayait de s'enfuir à la moindre occasion pendant sa période de quarantaine. Heureusement, une fois sorti de quarantaine, Calvin a rapidement retrouvé ses esprits. Il demeure un chat timide et nerveux, mais il apprécie maintenant les caresses qu'on a à lui offrir! Il faut toujours l'approcher avec beaucoup de douceur. C'est vraiment le mot clé pour lui. Pour cette raison, Calvin ne peut pas habiter dans une maison où il y a ou aura des enfants. Il est porteur du virus de l'immunodéficience féline (VIF). Pour plus d'information sur le VIF:  https://www.veterinairesaucanada.net/ressources-associees/virus-de-l-immunodeficience-feline-fiv/  Malgré cela, il peut vivre une belle et longue vie à l'intérieur! Lorsqu’il est arrivé chez nous en mai 2025, Ozzy était en diarrhée continuelle. Nous avons consulté à maintes reprises pour régler ce problème. Nous étions loin de nous douter que ce problème n’en était pas un finalement, car ses diarrhées l’avaient gardé en vie! En effet, au cours des nombreux examens, les vétérinaires ont découvert qu’Ozzy a un rétrécissement du canal pelvien ce qui veut dire que l’ouverture pour évacuer ses selles est plus étroite que chez un autre chat. Selon toute vraisemblance, le rétrécissement est dû à une ancienne fracture qui a causé un mauvais alignement lorsque les os se sont ressoudés. Malheureusement pour lui, son problème est mécanique et ne peut pas être corrigé avec une chirurgie. On n’aime pas tellement que les chats soient en diarrhée ou aient des selles molles, mais dans le cas d’Ozzy c’est une question de vie ou de mort : ses selles doivent rester molles ou en diarrhée pour prévenir un autre blocage. Donc Ozzy doit prendre à vie un médicament pour augmenter sa motilité intestinale en plus d’un laxatif et ce 3 fois par jour. Il est sous une diète spéciale gastrointestinale sans fibres à vie. Dans son cas, les fibres sont déconseillées, car elles augmentent le volume des selles. Nous avons inscrit Ozzy au parrainage, car il a besoin de visites vétérinaires fréquentes pour s’assurer que tout continue à bien aller pour lui. Ozzy est un chat adorable qui affectionne particulièrement la présence des humains. Il réside au refuge dans un condo, mais il a le droit de déambuler dans le corridor au milieu des bénévoles. Lors de ses sorties, il en profite pour aller se prélasser au soleil sur la bordure de fenêtre dans la cuisine. Cela lui permet aussi de superviser le travail des bénévoles. Il est très vocal et aime discuter avec nos bénévoles! Il se cherche idéalement une famille sans autres chats puisqu'il a parfois du mal à bien s'entendre avec ses copains félins. We don't really like it when cats have diarrhea or loose stools, but in Ozzy's case, it's a matter of life and death: his stools must remain loose or diarrhea-like to prevent another blockage. So Ozzy must take medication to increase his intestinal motility three times a day for the rest of his life, in addition to a laxative. He is on a special fiber-free gastrointestinal diet for life. In his case, fiber is not recommended because it increases stool volume. We enrolled Ozzy in the sponsorship program because he needs frequent veterinary visits to ensure that everything continues to go well for him. Ozzy is an adorable cat who particularly enjoys human company. He lives in a condo at the shelter, but he is allowed to wander around the hallway among the volunteers. When he goes out, he takes the opportunity to bask in the sun on the windowsill in the kitchen. This also allows him to supervise the volunteers' work. À son arrivée, son pelage était sale et il portait plusieurs petites croûtes et blessures sur le corps, des signes qui témoignent d’une vie difficile et de nombreuses altercations avec d’autres chats. Malgré son passé difficile, il démontre une magnifique capacité à faire confiance et il demeure un véritable amour avec les humains. Il adorera faire partie de votre quotidien, c’est un vrai petit pot de colle. La stimulation par le jeu l’aidera à garder une bonne hygiène et à garder son instinct de chasseur. Il a été sorti de la rue grâce à une gentille personne qui a pris soin de lui et a payé ses premiers traitements.
