Story
Given the choice between the far end of the couch and the six inches right next to you, Foxie takes the six inches. Every time. She is a black and brindle shepherd mix, around two and a half years old and 47 pounds, short smooth coat, white patch on her chest. She came to the shelter in May of last year showing clear signs of having very recently had puppies. We never learned what became of them. She waited more than a year for a place of her own, and this summer she got a foster home. It turns out she is a house dog. She mastered house training in a matter of days, settled into the rhythm of a house like she had been in one all along, and she is microchipped. What her foster taught us is how little she asks for. A daily walk, something to work her brain, and time on the couch next to her person covers everything she needs. She is not pacing and she is not spinning at the door. That makes her a good fit for a quiet household, or for anyone who wants a dog for company more than for mileage. She is smart and eager to learn, and she stays connected to her people. On walks she checks in constantly, like she wants to be sure you are still enjoying it too. A few honest things before you apply. Her veterinarian believes the slight difference in the way she moves is an old injury. She is pain free and it does not bother her day to day, and it does mean she is not a high mileage dog. Foxie can share a home with another dog as long as it is a calm one who will not get in her face. A pushy dog who wants a constant playmate is not the right fit. She has been gentle with the children she has met. She has never been around cats, so we cannot tell you how she would do living with one. Foxie is ready whenever you are. We prefer to schedule appointments for meet and greets to make sure someone is available to spend time with you. The shelter is open Monday through Friday, 12pm to 4pm, and appointments outside of those hours may be available based on volunteer availability.
