Story
Trigger just turned 2 on Nov 14th 2023. He is a happy, healthy, friendly and very active young german shepherd. This is not easy for me to do, but I honestly believe that he needs an environment with a younger family and possibly more space. He only has a little over a 1/4 acre to explore and play here. Furthermore I work a lot and sometimes late so I believe it's really not fair to him. He comes with a crate, that he is very comfortable in, three dog beds, plenty of bones and chew toys, and more importantly, indestructible throwing balls that he LOVES to fetch! That is his mission in life. He comes when told and is fine on a leash.

Story
PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - PEACHES BREED - Shepherd Mix SIZE - About 30 pounds AGE - 5-6 years GENDER - Female MEDICAL CONCERNS - None known BEHAVIOR CONCERNS - None known SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Peaches is a lovely girl! She came to us recently when her owner, one of our beloved volunteers, passed away. Originally found as a stray, Peaches was a loved pet and is now adjusting to being in our kennel while a new family is found for her. Our vet feels Peaches is likely 5-6 years old, and some mix of shepherd and something much smaller. She is a 30 pound dog at a healthy weight. Peaches loves people and loves to play! She is very focused on her toys and having someone to share them with! We would love to find her a home with a young, active adopter who can provide a secure home and yard, and lots of exercise and mental stimulation. She is a perfect size for most homes! Peaches is in good health, spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. Peaches is not well suited to small children or very small dogs who could be upset by her enthusiasm, but will fit nicely into many other homes. Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Adopt a Pet inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and the dog at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting the dog and determining that it matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner. I've got a lovely bunch of Coconut! All standing in a row! Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head!Meet Coconut... a beautiful German Shepherd/Malinois mix that will have your heart in seconds. This pretty girl was found as a stray, so we only know what we've learned about her in the shelter setting so far. Coconut is a little shy and aloof at first, but once she decides your her person, she'll give you plenty of hugs and kisses!True to the breed mix, these are very smart dogs - so be prepared to do your research and go get plenty of exercise together! Most importantly, get your training on to make this girl the best girl she can be!

Story
Dolly is a very sweet older girl with some anxiety which causes her to not like loud noises, and strangers. She does possess resource guarding issues and was protective of her owner. Dolly has never lived with other dogs and probably would love to be the only pet to give you her undivided attention. Dolly loves to go for walks, knows several basic commands, and does enjoy playing keep away with a ball, and of course enjoys a good rawhide bone. She also was well taken care of by her owner and his Vet. Please stop by to visit her if you have time to give to this sweet older girl.Notes from the foster:We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Dolly.  We had her for 3 ½ days. She is such asweet girl.  She settled in just fine here and had full run of the house without issue andis very well house-trained. She was quite calm and playful (likes to play chase) by thefirst night. She likes tennis balls and squeaky toys. She loves being outside and enjoys walks in the woods.  We made sure to walk heraway from other dogs as that does get her excited. She does very well on a leash aslong as you "tell" her to not pull (keep her a short leash until she does). She ate quitewell.  She slept fine with us and was on our bed for most of the night the first night. Bythe last night, she was content to be on her bed at the foot of our bed.She is sensitive to loud noises (e.g., TV) and will run around (we think) to try to figureout where it is coming from.We will definitely foster her again but hope she finds her forever home before we get achance!

Story
Auntie Em is a beautiful, young German Shepherd Dog/Pitbull mix (50/50 according to the DNA test). Her dark Brindle coat and copper eyes are simply stunning. She is about 2 years old and weighs 64 pounds. She had puppies when she arrived here and was a great mama, but now the puppies are all adopted and she is looking for a wonderful home. She is very smart, obedient, powerful, and full of energy. Please research both breeds. High energy, working dogs require a lot. Check out the Wizard of Oz album on Facebook to see more pics. Auntie Em is particular. She is very prey driven. If it's alive, furry or feathery, and moves she will chase it. She has interacted with various sized dogs. Sometimes its playful, sometimes its not. She does not like when other dogs get in her face or show any dominance. There is not a lot of warning when she's upset. A new owner will have to work with her and learn her cues and redirect. No kitties. She has loved all people she has met so far with proper introduction. She is CRAZY food motivated. She is gentle when taking treats, but is bit protective of her bowl and yummy treats. Because of this, no children under 12 in the household for this gal. Em will definitely benefit from some obedience training to polish her manners. She is doing excellent with housebreaking and knows sit and come. She will go in a crate, but she does not love it. She is micro-chipped, UTD on vaccines and spayed. Em is going to make a wonderful pet for the right owner. Is it you? If you are interested, please fill out an application on www.homesfurhounds.org.
