Story
Meet Vivi! Vivi was found as a stray and ended up in animal control before coming to rescue. She is estimated to be around 10 years old, but she definitely didn’t get the memo—Vivi has plenty of energy and a tail that seems to wag nonstop. She’s a happy, curious girl who loves to be part of the action. If something moves, Vivi wants to check it out! She enjoys playing and still has a fun, youthful spirit. Vivi is a smart girl who knows “sit” and understands “no.” She appears eager to please and is learning that calm behavior earns attention and pets. She is also very good motivated. 😉 She’s quiet in her kennel, keeps it clean, and has not been destructive in her foster home. After a couple of initial accidents (normal when adjusting to a new home), she’s doing well going potty outside. She LOVES walks and belly rubs!! Vivi has met the resident dog in her foster home and did fine, but she can be a little enthusiastic and barky and is still learning doggy boundaries. Because of this, she will need slow introductions with other dogs. Vivi can also be a little sneaky around doors, so adopters will need to be careful when coming and going. She should not be off leash unless in a securely fenced area, as she does enjoy running. She is not a fan of small squeaky fast-moving kids but older kids are ok. Vivi is not a fan of apartments and wants to protect her owner so will bark at strangers. A house with a fenced yard is best for Vivi. If you think Vivi might be the right fit for your home, please apply at www.campcompanion.org. Her adoption fee is $450 plus tax

Story
**Meet Rikki – A Tiny Survivor Looking for Her One Special Person ❤️** Rikki is a beautiful 2-year-old long-haired black Chihuahua whose story hasn't been an easy one. She came to us after being picked up as a stray, and it was immediately clear that somewhere along the way, this little girl learned that people couldn't always be trusted. When Rikki first arrived, she was terrified. She spent her days hiding and protecting herself the only way she knew how. But one patient shelter staff member refused to give up on her. Day by day, without rushing or forcing interactions, Rikki slowly decided that maybe one human was safe. Before long, she was racing to the front of her kennel whenever she heard her favorite person, happily asking to be picked up, snuggling into her arms, and showering her with tiny kisses. It showed everyone that underneath all that fear is a dog capable of loving deeply. Since coming into foster care, Rikki has continued to make progress—but she is still healing, both emotionally and possibly physically. She was so overwhelmed that she didn't eat for her first three days. She enjoys curling up on her foster mom's chest and has started seeking comfort from the person she trusts. At the same time, she remains very cautious. She is protective of her personal space, especially around her neck and mouth, and she may bite if she feels frightened or pressured. She also appears uncomfortable with other dogs around her and will growl if they get too close. Rikki has some behaviors that make us wonder what she may have experienced before rescue. She deserves a family that will look beyond those fears and see a little dog who has simply learned to survive. With patience, consistency, and kindness, we believe she can continue to blossom. Rikki is looking for a very special home: * An adult-only household with no young children. One owner. * Someone experienced with fearful or under socialized dogs is strongly preferred. * A patient adopter who will let Rikki set the pace and never force affection or handling. * A securely fenced yard is recommended while trust is being built, as she is not yet comfortable with many aspects of handling. * She may do best as an only dog or with a calm, respectful dog after careful introductions. Rikki isn't the dog who will instantly greet everyone with kisses. She's the dog who will make you earn her trust—and when you do, you'll have something incredibly special. Watching a frightened dog discover that the world can be safe again is one of the most rewarding journeys there is. If you're looking for a rescue project with a heart worth fighting for, Rikki may just be waiting for you. Apply to adopt at www.campcompanion.org Adoption fee is $450 plus tax.

Story
Canelita is a beautiful girl with a soft heart and a gentle soul. While she can be fearful of new people at first, her transformation in her foster home has been truly amazing to watch. Once she trusts you, she has the most endearing ways of asking for affection; she’ll often come right up and stand on her foster mom’s leg for pets, or even climb up to stand on her foster mom while she’s laying down just to be close. At the end of the day, you can almost always find her curled up faithfully at your feet. However, she must ask for affection on her own terms, she loves when her foster mom talks to her, sings to her but if her foster mom goes to do things NOT on Canelita's terms, she will run away scared. She would not do well in a loud or noisy household. Because Canelita is a sensitive pup who is still learning that the world isn’t so scary, she has a few specific needs to help her thrive. She requires a securely fenced-in yard to keep her safe while she explores, and a peaceful, low-key home environment. Because of her shy nature, she needs a home with older dog savvy children (ages 8 and up) who can respect her space and move at her pace. She is very social with other animals and currently lives happily with two cats. She does great with other pups, though she would best suit a home with another social, non-dominant resident dog who can help her feel at ease. Canelita has been spayed, is up to date on her rabies & distemper, is microchipped, has had a negative fecal and heartworm test and is on a flea/tick & heartworm preventative schedule. - Canelita's adoption fee is $350 + Minnesota sales tax - You must fill out an adoption application before you are allowed to meet the animal. Please complete the adoption application located on our website: https://smalldogsminnesota.org/adoption-application/ - Small Dog Rescue of MN does not negotiate the adoption fee on our dogs and we must charge sales tax on all adoption fees in order to comply with Minnesota state law. Please note that SDR is philosophically opposed to the idea of buying and selling animals, and we support any future legislation that would remove sales tax from adoption fees. Until then, however, it must be charged. - Please note that we do not have a shelter, and all dogs are in foster homes. Since we strive to provide the best possible care for our animals, sometimes we cannot answer emails promptly. Please allow 48 hours for us to respond to you. - You must be 18 years of age to make an adoption request. - A healthy pet is a happy pet!
