Her energy, intelligence, and curiosity certainly fit the bill! But thanks to her original adoption paperwork, we learned she’s actually a Treeing Feist—a true working dog with a big personality packed into a small body. Treeing Feists were bred to hunt and “tree” small game, which means they are alert, intelligent, driven, and expressive. They use their voices to communicate, and Lucie is no exception—she can be vocal, especially when she’s excited, alerting you to something interesting, or eager to join in the action. Because of this (and her working-dog instincts), Lucie is not well suited for apartment or rental living and will thrive in a home that understands and appreciates these natural behaviors. Lucie strongly reflects her breed traits. She’s curious, people-focused, and always ready to engage with the world around her. While she enjoys play and outdoor adventures, she also has a wonderful off-switch and is happy to relax once her needs are met. A home that can provide structure, enrichment, and regular outdoor time will help Lucie shine. Lucie came to us after her previous owner had to move into a nursing home, and her family wasn’t able to keep her. It’s clear she was deeply loved—she’s house-trained, crate-trained, food-motivated, and has excellent house manners. She’ll sit by the door when she needs to go outside and prefers to keep her people within sight at all times. Lucie enjoys playing with her larger foster brother but prefers calmer, respectful play. True to her Treeing Feist roots, she loves exploring the yard, going on long sniffy walks, and engaging her senses. She also happens to be a total water girland happily splashes whenever she gets the chance! Her short brindle-and-white coat and expressive ears make her as charming as she is striking. Some things to know about Lucie: No cats or small animals – strong prey drive typical of Treeing Feists Can be vocal, especially when excited or alerting May do best with a calm dog companion or as your one-and-only Loves water, outdoor time, and exploration Needs a fenced yard and a home that understands working-dog Treeing Feist traits From Lucie: “Things have changed a lot for me lately, and I’ll admit—I’ve been a little unsure. But I’m not letting it stop me from having fun! I love racing around the yard, going for walks, and seeing what this new world has to offer. When play gets too rowdy, I just find my person for some reassurance. Inside, I’m happy to curl up, chew a bone, or keep watch out the window. I may have something to say now and then—but it’s all part of who I am. I’m ready for my next adventure—with a forever family of my own.” If Lucie sounds like the perfect match for your home and heart—and you’re excited to share life with a smart, vocal, working-breed Treeing Feist—we’d love to introduce you!
