Meet Boomer — a 1‑year‑old, 16 lb Chihuahua mix with a tender heart, a silly streak, and a deep love for canine companionship. He is waiting patiently for an extra special adopter who will truly give him the adequate time and patience to come out of his shell and shine! Boomer is skittish and timid when first meeting people and because of this, he will need more of a chance than the typical one or several "meet and greets" allow. In his foster home, it took Boomer around 4-6 weeks to feel comfortable enough to let his guard down and his adorable personality to emerge - and trust us, he was worth the wait! Boomer is just asking for a chance - he needs calm, patience, extra kindness, and extra time for him to learn that he is safe and loved. About Boomer’s Breed: Our best guess is that Boomer is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are bold, confident and loyal. They are affectionate with their people but can be wary of strangers but warm up quickly. They are intelligent and trainable, though they may be a little stubborn at times, but they keep it interesting! They are also known to be vocal and love to “chit chat”! All About Boomer: Boomer is still working on his potty and crate training, but he does well when left uncrated with pee pads. Because of his rough and unknown past, he needs a little time to warm up and can be nervous around new people. He responds especially well to calm, gentle female energy and would do best in a kid‑free home, as sudden movements can overwhelm him. Boomer would really love a home where someone would be with him, for most of the day, or not be gone for more than 5-6 hours per day. What truly helps Boomer shine is the presence of another dog. He gains confidence from canine friends, loves playing with them, and even shares his toys beautifully. He hasn’t met cats yet, but given how well he does with dogs of all sizes, he would likely do fine with feline friends too. Boomer has a medium energy level—he enjoys playtime and long walks but isn’t overly energetic. Once he trusts the person holding the leash, he walks nicely and has an easygoing, submissive play style. He would thrive with an experienced, patient owner, ideally someone familiar with small dogs or hoarder‑rescue backgrounds who can offer gentle structure and consistent training. Once Boomer feels safe, his personality blossoms! He becomes a silly, sweet little guy who loves carrying his lamb chop toy around, sneaking socks when no one’s looking, and soaking up chest and chin scratches. His zoomies before walks or after baths are absolutely adorable and show just how joyful he can be.
