Story
Meet Kendall & Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition. Thanks to our generous donors and veterinary partners, PCHS covers the full cost of their heartworm treatment. But we need adopters or fosters who can commit to the care these girls need during recovery. What Heartworm Treatment Involves: Oral medications administered at home. Veterinary visits for a series of injections. Strict activity restriction for several weeks, including crate rest or confinement to small areas indoors, leash-only potty breaks and outdoor time and no running, jumping, or rough play. This quiet recovery period is essential to ensure the heartworms are safely eliminated without complications. Are you the one who can help one or both of these girls transition from survivors to thrivers? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2470141##

HOMEOWNERSHIP REQUIRED! Hello, I am Hercules. I am a big, loving boy who adores cuddles and giving kisses. I also enjoy hiking and rolling in flowers and grass. I’m very good with other people and get along well with dogs. I’m such a lover boy—calm, easygoing, and gentle. I have a happy disposition and fantastic leash manners. I’m a big boy, so I love to eat and am very treat-motivated. I’m also great in the car. At home, I am incredibly well crate trained—both at night and during the day when needed. I don’t whine, bark, or chew on things. I am 6 years old, about 60 pounds, and full of energy when it’s time to play, but I’m also happy to take naps around the house. I’m down as a lab mix and up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. I’d love to meet you—apply today! Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##2077579##

Story
HOMEOWNERSHIP REQUIRED! Hi, my name is Greg, and I might just be the most adorable dog ever (at least, I think so)! Who can resist a nearly 100-pound, 2-year-old lap dog who just wants to please you? I'm a loyal Lab mix with a heart full of love. I’m happiest when I’m by your side—whether that’s going for a car ride, taking long walks, or just relaxing at home. I’m house-trained, crate-trained, and have lived with kids of all ages and small dogs my whole life. I love them all! Sadly, I recently and unexpectedly lost my human mama, and my world has been turned upside down. The kind people at 2BABR promised to help me find a new family to love, and I hope that family is you! I’d love a patient and loving home where I can take my time warming up to new people. I can be a little shy at first, but once I trust you, I’ll be your most devoted companion. Just look into my eyes—you’ll see how special I am! I’m neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Could you be the family I’ve been waiting for? Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##1646717##

Story
HOMEOWNERSHIP REQUIRED! Pancake is a happy and loving 6-year-old neutered male looking for just the right person/family to bring him home and become part of a new pack! Pancake is active and enjoys going on walks, hikes, and playing in the yard. He absolutely loves being with his people and is looking for someone trustworthy so he may bond with them. Pancake has been very well-trained in basic obedience; he does well on a leash, knows the commands sit, stay, and come, and is both crate and potty trained. He is very comfortable in his crate (in fact, it’s a calming place for him), and he prefers to sleep in his crate at night. Pancake is up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, and is heartworm negative. Pancake is an energetic, joyful pup who truly wants more than anything to please - he really wants to be a good boy! Pancake is loyal and does require proper structure to prevent him from becoming protective of his people; he is very smart and is at his best when he receives balanced mental and physical stimulation. Ideally, his new home is one in which his owner is committed to continuing the training and structure that allows him to thrive. Firm, yet loving handlers who can maintain boundaries will help Pancake feel secure and prevent him from overly protective tendencies. Pancake loves to play but can be a bit too rambunctious with smaller children, so a more adult household would likely be best for Pancake. Pancake excels in training and would likely excel in other physical activities (agility, running), given the depth of understanding and responding to the commands he has readily learned to date. His willingness to learn and eagerness to please make him a delight to train (he’s very treat-motivated!). With consistent guidance and positive reinforcement, Pancake will absolutely thrive in a structured environment! Pancake typically demonstrates neutral interaction with other dogs while on leash and in the general population. He likes to play with other dogs, although he does prefer the company of females. If not properly supervised, play with some dogs can escalate. Pancake likes to chase felines, so the ideal home for Pancake is feline-free. Pancake is a wonderful, loyal companion who would love nothing more than to be by your side for all of your adventures!  With continued consistency, structure and love, he will thrive and is destined to become a very special and integral part of your family.   Please apply to meet Pancake today! Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##380248##
