Story
Meet Kendall & Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition. Thanks to our generous donors and veterinary partners, PCHS covers the full cost of their heartworm treatment. But we need adopters or fosters who can commit to the care these girls need during recovery. What Heartworm Treatment Involves: Oral medications administered at home. Veterinary visits for a series of injections. Strict activity restriction for several weeks, including crate rest or confinement to small areas indoors, leash-only potty breaks and outdoor time and no running, jumping, or rough play. This quiet recovery period is essential to ensure the heartworms are safely eliminated without complications. Are you the one who can help one or both of these girls transition from survivors to thrivers? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2470141##

Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: Transferred from Irving Animal Services in Irving, Texas; mom and two pups -- other three pups in this same litter were transferred two weeks ago. All are fixed and rabies done. From the foster: Say hello to sweet Sally! Sally is an adorable little mutt with maybe a sprinkle of Pitbull and Boxer, but definitely a whole lot of charm. She has the cutest stripe that stretches from her nose up to her forehead, plus two perfect little dots on her nose that look like they were painted on just to make her extra irresistible. Sally is a total lovebug. She adores people, so if you’re looking for a shadow who will happily soak up all your attention, she’s your girl. She’s also great with other dogs, and with her gentle, friendly personality, she’ll probably be wonderful with kids too! This smart cookie already knows her name and understands “no” pretty well. She’s working hard on potty training and all the puppy basics, and she’s doing a fantastic job — she wants so badly to make her people proud. If you’re dreaming of a sweet, snuggly, eager-to-love pup with a one-of-a-kind face and a heart of gold, Sally is ready to wiggle her way right into your life… and your lap! www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt

From the foster: Meet Woodstock! If you’ve been looking for a dog who can brighten your day with just one look, say hello to Woodstock — a charming mutt with possibly some Boxer and Pit Bull in the mix, and definitely the most ridiculously adorable little ears you’ve ever seen. Seriously, they flip-flop forward like he’s permanently leaning in to hear your secrets. He’s smart, eager to learn, and always happy to be part of whatever you’re doing. Woodstock gets along wonderfully with people and other dogs, and he’s probably great with kids too — he’s got that sweet, gentle vibe that wins everyone over. He’s also learning to potty train; he’s still figuring it out, but he’s doing a great job and improving every day. Want a hiking buddy? He’s in. A couch companion? Say no more. Someone to show off at the park because of those fabulous ears? Absolutely. Woodstock is ready for his forever home — one filled with love, patience, playtime, and plenty of photo ops. If you’re looking for a loyal friend who will make you smile every single day, Woodstock is your guy. Come meet him and let those flip-flop ears do the rest! www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt

What we know: Transferred from Irving Animal Services in Irving, Texas; mom and two pups -- other three pups in this same litter were transferred two weeks ago. All are fixed and rabies done. From the foster: Meet Lucy — the mama who’s finally ready for her turn! After lovingly raising her puppies (who are now off to their own adventures), Lucy has been spayed, celebrated, and is officially ready to live her best “empty-nest dog mom” life. And trust us… she is so ready. Lucy may be an adult, but she is absolutely still a puppy at heart — playful, goofy, and delightfully unaware of her own size. One minute she’s a joyful little wrecking ball bouncing around the house, and the next she’s a warm, snuggly weighted blanket draped across your lap, sound asleep and snoring. She’s fully potty trained, loves a good meal (and an even better treat), and is wonderful in her crate both overnight and when you’re out. She sleeps through the night like a champion — especially if she got in a good cuddle session first. Lucy loves people. She loves to be pet on her head, snout, and ears, and she’ll gently nuzzle her face into you just to make sure you know she’s happy. Her ideal afternoon includes zoomies, followed by sofa snuggles, followed by a nap where she drifts off immediately in her happy place: pressed right up against her human. If you’re looking for a dog who is equal parts silly puppy, devoted snugglebug, and heart-melting companion, Lucy is your girl. She’s ready for her new beginning — and she can’t wait to find her person. Come meet Lucy and let her charm you into falling in love! 🐾💛 www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
