Story
Meet Kendall & Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition. Thanks to our generous donors and veterinary partners, PCHS covers the full cost of their heartworm treatment. But we need adopters or fosters who can commit to the care these girls need during recovery. What Heartworm Treatment Involves: Oral medications administered at home. Veterinary visits for a series of injections. Strict activity restriction for several weeks, including crate rest or confinement to small areas indoors, leash-only potty breaks and outdoor time and no running, jumping, or rough play. This quiet recovery period is essential to ensure the heartworms are safely eliminated without complications. Are you the one who can help one or both of these girls transition from survivors to thrivers? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2470141##

Story
Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: 2-year-old female transferred from Tulia Animal Shelter (TX). Her owners moved and left her tied up outside, she was brought in as a "stray". Came with the name Sunday. From the foster: 🐾 Meet Sunday — Sweet, Steady, and Ready for Her Forever Home! Sunday is a 2‑year‑old, 60‑lb Lab mix with a gentle spirit and a heart that’s just beginning to bloom. She’s the perfect blend of calm and playful, making her an easy companion who fits beautifully into a variety of home environments. 🌟 Cat‑Friendly Sunday completely ignores the resident cat in her foster home — no chasing, no fixating. She’d do great in a home with feline friends who want a respectful, low‑key dog roommate. 🌟 Dog‑Friendly (Still Learning Boundaries) She does well with other dogs and enjoys their company, but she’s still learning appropriate social cues and may need light supervision as she continues improving her manners. She’s making steady progress and shows good potential with consistent guidance. 🌟 Low–Medium Energy Sunday isn’t a high‑octane dog — she enjoys gentle play, casual walks, and lots of lounging. She’s happy to relax near her people and doesn’t require hours of exercise to feel content. 🌟 Crate Champion Big win: Sunday sleeps through the night in her crate with zero issues. She settles quickly, sleeps soundly, and wakes up calm — a huge plus for easy household routines. 🌟 Growing Everyday She’s learning: - How to play with toys - Basic manners (including resisting the temptation to counter‑surf!) - Confidence in new environments - She has mild–moderate resource guarding, which is very manageable with structure, consistency, and an adopter who can follow the rescue’s guidance. She responds well to redirection and is improving. 🌟 Her Personality Sunday is: - Affectionate once she bonds - Quiet and observant - Food‑motivated - Curious in a sweet, gentle way - Eager to please and learn - She’s the kind of dog who will melt into your routine, your home, and your heart. 🌟 Who She's Looking For Sunday will thrive with: - A patient adopter who will continue her training - A calm or moderately active home - A family who appreciates a soft, sensitive dog - Possibly a respectful dog friend or a dog‑savvy cat www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
