We often do not know what mix they are and have to base it on what we think they look like, and base it on breeds often found in the area they came from. Most of our dogs who have gotten DNA tests done are 4-10 breeds mixed together. Because their breed mix is a guess we cannot guarantee a 'full grown size' of many of our younger animals.Interested in adopting me? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $200 plus taxMillie wants to please her people as well as be with them while they are at home. She loves riding in the car. If the weather allows, she’s a great dog to go on errands with. I think she’s happier that she was brought along rather than left alone at home. Millie is house trained and at this time she requires an insulin shot right after she eats in the morning and 10-12 hours later, with dinner-she requires special diabetic dog food. Approximate monthly cost of her medications and prescription food is $335.She gets along well with other dogs she can be a bit too much for smaller dogs. and cats are unknown. She can be very vocal when hungry or when she has to go outside. Her best bet is a fenced yard that she can be just let out to go potty when she needs to.  Millie will need to continue to work with a Veterinarian to keep her diabetes regulated so she can live a long happy life.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.   //

Story
Hi! I'm Buddy. I am a black lab born in mid Feb. 2022. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best start as something happened when I was with the breeder where I stopped walking at around 4 weeks of age. I don't remember what, and unfortunately nothing was done to figure out how to help me. A local friend heard about me and was able to get the breeder to surrender me -- I was 5.5 months old at that time. I could kinda walk, but mostly scooted (or as my foster calls it - slinking) around with both my rear legs out to the side. They then let me go to NDLB where I started getting the care I needed.  My rear right leg had minimal muscle mass and my joints wouldn't bend, so I just swung it if I was walking. My rear left leg had better muscle mass and movement. The vet recommended amputate the rear right. Once I healed up from that, I was actually able to walk/hop a little better since I didn't have that hard weight on the side.  I am going through home physical therapy where my foster is doing a range of movement on my rear leg and playing with my toes a lot. (I like to lick her in the face - I mean, it tickles!) The physical therapist we saw recommends moving that leg a lot and playing with toes so I can remember it's there. It would be recommended to continue seeing a professional physical therapist as well - as they are optimistic that I won't need a wheelchair later in life. If I can get a few good steps in, I can walk pretty good. However, I am a lab and get excited too quickly sometimes and end up slinking my way around some times.  With my disability in walking the greatest, I am NOT potty trained. I may never be potty trained unfortunately. So I'm sorry about that. I don't realize I am going most of the time and will continue walking. I am also unable to walk on hardwood/linoleum/non-carpeted floors or go down stairs. So I will need to be carried down stairs (inside & outside). I am working on going up them however, and do need help with just slightly holding my hips. However, I have been doing the first two stairs by myself - carpeted as well as outside stairs! My foster momma is super proud of that.  Despite all of that, I love everyone I meet. I love kids and adults. I love playing with other dogs. I also love playing fetch (though it's more you tossing and helping me up from me slinking). I haven't met any cats so I don't know how I would be with them. I do bark in my kennel when I hear someone, when it's food time, when I've peed/pooped in the kennel, or at various times. I ride great in the car - tethered to a seat or in a crate. I'm fine as long as I get to go somewhere with you. I do have a special "Help Em Up" harness that will go with me when I am adopted. I have been in my foster home for over a year now. I can go up the stairs (as long as they are carpeted, longer flights (4+) I may need help on. I still don't like slippery floors. I am better in the kennel and don't bark as much. However, I do still go to the bathroom wherever, but I seem to know when I'm going and not walking around during it as much. Do you think you have room for a special needs boy who has an amazing heart? Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 28, 2024, 3:52 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $450 plus taxMeet Taylor, a young soul with a heart full of love. He's a little shy at first, but once he warms up, he's the cuddliest companion you could ask for. Taylor's youthful energy is contagious, making every day an adventure. He loves to play, but he also enjoys quiet moments, snuggling up for a good nap. Taylor does require a home with a fenced-in yard, a safe space where he can explore and play freely. * no chickens pleaseHe gets along with the cats and all of the dogs. He is sleeping in his crate at night because he did not want to share the bed with the fosters resident dogs but he is fine with that.  He has only had a couple of pee accidents, his housetraining progress is great for his age. He knows his basic commands and is starting to come when called. Adopting Taylor means welcoming a loyal friend who will bring joy, companionship, and unconditional love into your life.
