Story
TEDDY 🖤 This adorable guy is Teddy. Located in BRANTFORD, ON Weight: He is approximately 50 lbs. Good with dogs: Teddy ignores small dogs and likes to wrestle with bigger dogs. Teddy does best with submissive dogs or dogs that can recognize when he has had enough of playing. He would do best as an only pet. Good with cats: No Good with kids: Teddy would do best in a home without children. Housetrained: In progress. Crate Trained: Yes Leash Trained: Teddy is great on the leash. He requires the occasional reminder not to pull but responds very quickly to corrections. He knows basic commands like sit and down. He knows to stay until he is told “free”. As well he knows “place”. Energy level: High Health Concerns: None HW status: Negative Spay/neutered?: Yes Tell us about this dog: Teddy is a great dog but he is not for first time dog owners. He is extremely lovable and is always happy to see you. He has a few quirks worth noting. First off, he has springs as feet! This boy can jump. He would make an excellent agility or watersport competitor. Secondly, when he wags has tail his entire backend moves - he has a wiggly butt. It is absolutely adorable. Finally, Teddy has anxiety and reactivity. Teddy's foster parents have attended private training lessons and report that he is learning appropriate means of dealing with his anxiety and reactivity. He wants to please and is a quick learner. On going training would be extremely beneficial to both Teddy and his future adopters to help them both bond and understand each other's needs and expectations. Story
Meet The Sea and her Mysteries! The Sea and her Mysteries is as old as time... but in actuality is a 1-year-7-month-old flat coated Black Retriever. Since her stay with us, The Sea and her Mysteries has been spayed, microchipped, dewormed, health-checked, given a rabies vaccine and her core vaccines including Intranasal Bordetella. The Sea and her Mysteries has also been to our Board and Train classes for additional training with a professional instructor. The Sea and her Mysteries will require an experienced dog owner who can continue to work with her directly and give her ongoing training. She is really strong on a leash but with a good owner and ongoing attention, The Sea and her Mysteries will thrive in her new forever home!!We would encourage that The Sea and her Mysteries be the only dog in the home.If you are interested in The Sea and her Mysteries, please call our East region shelter at (416) 338-PAWS (7297) for further information. We are open Monday to Sunday 10:30AM to 6:30PM.Thank you for looking!!

Story
RESCUE STORY Boris had a rough start. He was born on the streets and learned to survive. His days were filled with scavenging for food, avoiding larger dogs, and seeking shelter in hidden corners. Despite the hardships, Boris possessed a gentle spirit and a pair of soulful eyes that spoke of resilience. He used to live on a university campus and was a community dog. However, this did not take long and university management started to collect all dogs and wanted to put a municipal shelter which is simply a death sentence for a dog. The volunteers didn’t let this happen and placed him in a boarding facility in Turkey. Character Boris is known for his friendly and outgoing nature. He forms strong bonds with his peeps and is often eager to please. With his glossy coat and playful demeanour, Boris will become a beloved member of your family, capture the hearts of everyone in your home. This social butterfly thrives on human interaction and is always eager to make new friends. His warm, expressive eyes reflect his affectionate nature, and his tail wags enthusiastically at the sight of anyone willing to give him attention. He is highly food-motivated. This can be an advantage in training. He can be influenced by the other dogs’ temperament so he could be a good companion to a calm dog with a proper introduction. Despite his friendly nature, Boris harbours a peculiar aversion to men wearing hats. It's a mystery to everyone, as he reacts with a mix of curiosity and caution whenever he encounters someone sporting a hat. In addition, he may exhibit a sense of loyalty that makes him watchful over their loved ones. Even though he is a medium-energy dog, he is playful and entertaining. He loves to play, run, and engage in various activities. Regular exercise is essential to keep him happy. We don’t know how he is around kids and cats. If you plan to adopt a dog for the first time or you are not an experienced dog owner, you should consider working with a trainer as Boris stays in a boarding house for a long time and forgot city life already. He’s social with people but still needs encouragement for city life. Boris can fly to Toronto or Vancouver when he finds his forever home! Story
Rita is sure to pull on your heart strings with her gentle tail wag and sweet demeanor. Rita is very attached and loyal to her owners. She needs time to trust new people, and it will take patience for her to make human friends. Lots of treats, positive reinforcement and slow introductions are the right way to go. When Rita is rushed meeting new people she can have a bad reaction and bite, so it is very important she interacts with people when she is comfortable. Rita can be leash reactive towards dogs and strangers. She can sometimes make friends with dogs, with a careful muzzled introduction. Rita reacts less when you incorporate lots of positive reinforcement and distance from her trigger, and she will need this type of training longterm to ensure her reactivity does not regress. Rita would do best in a teen only home.

Story
Bella would make a great companion for anyone looking for a low-maintenance dog. She is a 30 lb couch potato who enjoys cuddles, is very affectionate with her person, and makes a great reading buddy. Bella also loves to sleep in and goes to her foster mom's bed around 9 pmto warm it up! Bella is a tripod due to a car accident in Mexico when she was younger. At 6 years old, she moves around well but a home without a lot of stairs would be ideal. While Bella is happy to chill on the couch, she also loves her walks. Moderate daily exercise is great. She enjoys the mental stimulation of sniffing and exploring her local neighbourhood. Plus, walks help to keep her single hind leg strengthened and weight stable. Bella can be selective with dogs. She is currently living in a foster home and has had a few other rescue dogs come and go. She interacts with most of them well. At times, Bella can be reactive to other dogs when she is on her walks. A quiet home is best for Bella with either another dog or someone home more often than not. She can be left for periods on her own. An experienced dog person or couple without kids would be ideal. Initially, Bella was adopted when she arrived from Mexico a few years ago. Unfortunately, she was surrendered to Paws Above Rescue after her adopter became ill and passed away. If you would like to meet Bella or are interested in adopting her, please fill out an application at https://pawsaboverescue.ca/dog-adoption/ Please visit our website www.pawsaboverescue.ca to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs and cats.
