Story
Rita is sure to pull on your heart strings with her gentle tail wag and sweet demeanor. Rita is very attached and loyal to her owners. She needs time to trust new people, and it will take patience for her to make human friends. Lots of treats, positive reinforcement and slow introductions are the right way to go. When Rita is rushed meeting new people she can have a bad reaction and bite, so it is very important she interacts with people when she is comfortable. Rita can be leash reactive towards dogs and strangers. She can sometimes make friends with dogs, with a careful muzzled introduction. Rita reacts less when you incorporate lots of positive reinforcement and distance from her trigger, and she will need this type of training longterm to ensure her reactivity does not regress. Rita would do best in a teen only home.

Story
Olivia, also known as Pumpkin, is approximately 9 months old. Overall, she is an amazing puppy. She is affectionate and wants to be where you are. She needs a minute to warm up to strangers, but once comfortable, she wants to be your friend. Olivia is a beautiful, warm toasted coconut color with short fur and unique wine-colored nails. She currently weighs 40 lbs but still has some growing to do. She is full of energy and has two speeds: HIGH and OFF. She loves to play hard and then sleep hard. Dogs? Absolutely yes. Olivia loves to play with dogs and would do best with a playful canine companion of any size. Cats? Yes. Olivia was raised with cats and would do fine with a dog-savvy cat. Kids? Yes. Kids are great but need to be mindful of her small size and age. Olivia has been spayed, and microchipped, and is up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is house-trained and uses pee pads by the door, and her foster mom lets her out every few hours. Olivia is also crate-trained and sleeps in a crate beside her foster moms bed at night and takes naps in a safe space during the day. Looking for a clever, affectionate, and playful companion? Olivia might be your perfect match. If you would like to meet Olivia or are interested in adopting her, please fill out an application at https://pawsaboverescue.ca/dog-adoption/. Olivia is being fostered in Mississauga. Please visit our website www.pawsaboverescue.ca to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs and cats.

Story
Bella would make a great companion for anyone looking for a low-maintenance dog. She is a 30 lb couch potato who enjoys cuddles, is very affectionate with her person, and makes a great reading buddy. Bella also loves to sleep in and goes to her foster mom's bed around 9 pmto warm it up! Bella is a tripod due to a car accident in Mexico when she was younger. At 6 years old, she moves around well but a home without a lot of stairs would be ideal. While Bella is happy to chill on the couch, she also loves her walks. Moderate daily exercise is great. She enjoys the mental stimulation of sniffing and exploring her local neighbourhood. Plus, walks help to keep her single hind leg strengthened and weight stable. Bella can be selective with dogs. She is currently living in a foster home and has had a few other rescue dogs come and go. She interacts with most of them well. At times, Bella can be reactive to other dogs when she is on her walks. A quiet home is best for Bella with either another dog or someone home more often than not. She can be left for periods on her own. An experienced dog person or couple without kids would be ideal. Initially, Bella was adopted when she arrived from Mexico a few years ago. Unfortunately, she was surrendered to Paws Above Rescue after her adopter became ill and passed away. If you would like to meet Bella or are interested in adopting her, please fill out an application at https://pawsaboverescue.ca/dog-adoption/ Please visit our website www.pawsaboverescue.ca to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs and cats.

Say hello to Stella! This young, vibrant soul is looking for her forever home, and has a heart full of love and joy. She`ll be your next bubbly, friendly companion with a curious and goofy personality that will keep you entertained. Her playful nature and intelligence make her a quick learner who loves to explore and engage in fun activities. Stella`s cuddly and loyal nature makes her the perfect companion for those cozy nights in. She`s a ball of energy, always ready to play and bring a smile to your face. Her sweetness is unmatched, her gentle spirit is sure to warm your heart. She seems to enjoy the company of humans and doggie companions alike. She can be a vocal girl when she is over excited or left alone so someone who is home with her or doggie daycare will ensure she is comfortable and at ease.Stella recently came back from a change of scenery where she was staying at one of our veterinary partners, and here`s what her friends there had to say about her: She (Stella) is a LOVELY girl [albeit can be] very high energy and mouthy. She is a jumping jelly bean, able to jump very high up with the potential to lick your face! She will make a fabulous pet for someone who can burn off some of her energy and work on her manners. We have been walking her with a gentle leader and she is phenomenal. She does love other dogs too. And she is PERFECTION in a crate in the car. Adopt this fun, happy girl and add a ray of sunshine to your life!! She`s ready to create beautiful memories and share unconditional love with her forever family. If you`ve fallen head over heels please call us at the North Animal Shelter to learn more about her and our adoption process: 416-338-PAWS (7297). We are open daily between 10:30AM to 6:30PM!

Story
Cocoa is a sweet chocolate brown lab mix. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. Cocoa is 7 - 8 years old and is so sweet with everyone he meets. Cocoa's owner became ill so that is why he is available. He is a lower energy dog that does like to go for a walk, hang out watching movies, and go for car rides. Our preference is for an adult only home with a fenced in yard, quiet life style, and who wants to spoil this dear boy bewildered over what he could have done wrong. He is house broken and has no anxiety being left alone. We would love to have you meet him so if you live within a couple hours of Toronto and would like more information and an application, please email our rescue at c4ptoronto@gmail.com.

Story
Cyrus is a two year old lab mix. He is neutered and healthy and up to date on his shots. He weighs about 50 pounds. Cyrus is a smart and agile dog. His pictures don't truly show what a beautiful sweet boy he is with his stunning eyes and filled with an appetite for fun! Cyrus would be a great flyball dog as he really catches air when he jumps. With his smarts and agility he would be great in obstacle courses, dock diving, and a great running companion. Cyrus is house trained and will sleep through the night. He is well mannered inside the house, ok to be left alone, and isn’t destructive. There are some toys that look the worse for wear after his affections but they are still remarkably not beheaded or de-limbed! lol. He’ll often just sleep contentedly beside you - lovingly looking at you with his irresistible golden toffee eyes. If you live in Canada within 3 hours of Toronto and would like to meet Cyrus and learn more about him and our foster to adopt program, please email our rescue at c4ptoronto@gmail.com.

Story
Meet Lucas! A delightful 3-year-old Lab/Shepard mix with a big heart and a loving nature. Once you've earned his trust, he'll be your steadfast companion through thick and thin. Lucas is a sweet soul who is playful yet affectionate. He is neutered, up to date on shots, weighs about 60 pounds and is healthy. Lucas is well-behaved in the home, house-trained and sleeps through the night. He will be a loyal companion to any loving family. Lucas is seeking a home where he can feel safe and secure. He requires slow introductions to dogs and new people, and it is critical that his family help facilitate this for visitors, new people, and new dogs. While Lucas may be hesitant around new faces, he forms deep and lasting bonds with both humans and dogs. He is currently being fostered with two female dogs and doggie daycare has helped him learn to appreciate and socialize with other dogs and humans. He is great with children and has interacted lovingly with children beyond the age of 7. He is not cat tested. Lucas loves his routine and never tires of his favourite leash-free dog park and visiting his dog friends at the local park near his foster mom's home. Lucas has the run of his foster home. He has a dog bed but prefers to snooze and cuddle with his humans on the couch. Lucas is a smart boy who needs enrichment of both his mind and body. Daily time to run in a fenced area and long walks are musts for Lucas. He would do well with a companion dog of equal playfulness and energy as he loves to wrestle and play with his foster sisters. Puzzles, toys, and Nyla bones when at home help his mind busy and tire him out. Lucas walks well on lead and understands basic commands such as sit, wait, "let's go" and "touch". He is very food motivated and this will help with his continued training. If you' live in Canada within 3 hours of Toronto and are ready to open your heart and home to Lucas, please reach out by email at c4ptoronto@gmail.com. We will provide you with an application and information about about our foster to adopt program. Adopt Lucas today and be rewarded with a lifetime of unconditional love and companionship.

Story
Volga is a loving and caring adult female dog. She is spayed, up to date on her shots, weighs about 45 pounds, and is about 6 years old. She is friendly and very people-oriented. She is very loyal to those who care for her and very much enjoys cuddling up to them on the couch. Volga is a very curious dog who is adventurous and very smart. She is very sweet and has lots of love to give, however, due to some unfortunate family matters (not related to her) she finds herself without a home. She gets along with other dogs, children and people and in all likelihood cats too. She loves to go for walks and rides and just be with people. She is craving a furever home. We are determined to find that for her. She deserves all the love and spoiling she can get. If you live in Ontario within 3 hours of Toronto please contact us at c4ptoronto@gmail.com to learn more about her and our foster to adopt program. We would love for you to meet her!

Relationship with cats: Heather has met a cat but approached it too enthusiastically. She didn't show aggression but needs to learn some manners. House training: Heather mostly does her business indoors and is good with pee pads. Energy level: Being a young large breed puppy, her energy level is high. Ongoing training is necessary to make her attentive to human commands. Separation anxiety/Barking: Heather doesn't have separation anxiety and doesn't bark much even when playing actively. Brown is probably one of the most happy dogs we’ve ever known ! He is excited for just about anything- walks, treats, belly rubs… you name it ! Brown is high energy and looking for a family that can provide him with lots of exercise and training on a daily basis. Brown is great meeting all people including kids! He is jumpy at times and would not be suitable in a home with very small kids. Brown is being assessed with dogs and doing well with female dogs. He will require careful interactions with dogs to ensure he is going to be friendly. Brown was transferred to us from another shelter where he was rescued from a neglect and cruelty situation.

Jack is a favourite among our staff, giving hugs every time we enter his room! He is a laid back, medium energy dog who enjoys attention, but he also at times needs his space. Jack is always proud to show off new tricks and happily struts his stuff on walks. He would be the best sidekick to take on car rides and out for adventures! Jack requires an adult home with no other dogs or cats. If someone gets in Jack's face while he is uncomfortable he may be provoked enough to bite, and needs space until he is more relaxed. Jack can be reactive and aggressive towards all animals and will need management with this. He is super food motivated and clicker trained which makes walking a breeze!
